  1. I'll be in Atlanta and won't be able to meet you. Come to the JW concert in Kentucky!
  2. It's almost like Lucas heard all the backlash from the SEs and decided he just hadn't made ENOUGH changes for people to understand his vision. Thank goodness Spielberg went the other way with it.
  3. Thanks, fommes. I ended up including both versions of 8m1, and splitting 8m2 into two tracks. That way I still more or less have "A New Beginning" from the OST as its own track when I want to hear it by itself.
  4. You Are Welcome! Was that a documentary?
  5. Most of my favorite Williams scores are for imaginative, whimsical movies that are not especially grounded in reality. I have to wonder whether I would even listen to a Williams score for a documentary. It might be interesting as a curiosity, but beyond that... I do want a documentary ABOUT him, though! I like Tom's idea. Then we'd get a Williams-written John Williams Theme!
  6. I haven't listened to most of these outside of the films, but I always liked Avengers, Thor, and Elfman's Spider-man in the films. I ended up going with Thor.
  7. Ok, let me make sure I've got this right: - 8m1 in the sessions leak is the cue written for and used in the film - 8m1 Alt is an alternate version of that cue, with piano, and... - The second half of 8m2 is an expanded arrangement of 8m1?
  8. Fommes, is the "alternate" version of A New Beginning that you're referring to the piano version? For my edit, I chose to use the OST version of Man in the Window, and edit the extra material onto the beginning and end. In spite of the different-sounding percussion between the two sources, I was happy enough with how it turned out. That long percussive ending is a pretty unique moment in the score.
  9. At least it'll be less of a dilemma - like it would be now if we had the originals on DVD already.
  10. Jason, I'd like to say thanks for that spreadsheet - and thanks to everyone who contributed info to this thread. I just finally got around to doing my Minority Report edit over the weekend, and it was super helpful!
  11. Empire Strikes Back Star Wars Return of the Jedi Phantom Menace Attack of the Clones Revenge of the Sith I enjoy the first four on this list almost equally. The first two had IMO the very best new themes, and I rank Empire highest because it has such a huge number of memorable individual cues and scene-specific motifs. Phantom Menace was also really good for that... but it's been a strength of all the Star Wars scores, really.
  12. I think there's a good chance we'll get the original versions on blu ray in the next few years, but I bet they leave "A New Hope" in there. I wouldn't be surprised if they also kept or redid some of the cleanup work from the SE, to garbage mattes and things like that. I don't really mind this or "A New Hope" to be honest, though it would be fascinating to see the original original originals. And I will always love the entire original trilogy - if there's a new release sans SE material I'll be sharing filmmusic's excitement!
  13. Hmmm, well there's the shot of the remaining orcs riding away, and it does seem to imply we'll see them again. So it makes sense they would need the Weathertop scene to wrap things up. Jason, you could very well be right but I don't think it's clear whether Thorin was originally reacting to Azog. Ori has a strong reaction, though, like he's saying "No!" It seems like he wouldn't be that surprised to see Yazneg.
  14. They could always have intended to CG the hook hand onto the actor, but in that case I guess the toys would have reflected that. Thinking about all this is starting to make my head hurt...
  15. Thanks for the offer though, Tman.
  16. PJ is certainly in an unenviable position, trying not only to please Tolkien fans but having to live up to his own work on LotR as well.
  17. Oh, yeah I did look and I appreciated that fact, that's what I meant to say.
  18. Blegh! It'll probably go something like that. Although the second film seems to have so many elves in it, his dislike for them will have to be addressed and maybe he'll warm up to them at the end of this one instead of the third one.
  19. I enjoyed reading this - your explanation of how the love theme melody relates to the main theme was very insightful. While it's clear just from listening that the love theme works really well alongside the main theme, the specific reason for that was something I had never put my finger on before.
