I remember reading somewhere that Gia's puntastic cue names weren't his ideas. Someone from his team started doing that as a way of bringing some humour to an always tense scoring stage, and he went along with that, probably because it's his trademark now.

I like bringing humour into things.

Changing them back to something serious is easy enough for those so inclined.

Is there anyone that loves the film too? Or is it only me?

I think it's one of the last films that reminds of the old classic Hollywood and I love it for this.

    I like it well enough.

"Love" is a strong word, I suppose, but it's got a good time setting, adventure, a good look, great music.

Can't think of any reason to be excessively critical of it.

It does fit my general movie preferences. :D

    and to be continued...

Much appreciated! Looking forward to it.

I was lucky to notice this thread last Saturday. Had completely failed to catch that Powell and Ford were joining up for adventure.

Immediately listened to the soundtrack a few times once I found out it was already released.

Watched the movie the very next day and loved every minute of it.

Getting into the soundtrack properly now. The themes seemed a bit elusive to me at first, but seeing the film certainly helped.

    As does your post there.

Music seems pretty darn great! And same goes for the movie.

That's the sort of old-fashioned adventure film they really don't make enough of.

But we got another one in 2020 and I'm very grateful for it. :D

Haven't seen Resistance, but loved Rebels.

I liked Rebels pretty well too.

Main character on Resistance is obnoxiously stupid though.

It gets better nearer the end of the season.

Hoping that season 2 continues an upward trend...

  5. I wonder why.

From my side, that motorcycle chase and Beastie Boys song blowing stuff up definitely seemed bizarre to say the least.

    I could've done without that.

And I didn't like blowing up the Enterprise yet again.

That happens a bit too often for my liking.

But I liked the exploration at the beginning, the camraderie and the spacey-ness of that Yorktown base.

After two semi-Earth-based films, being so far on the edges of Federation space felt oddly liberating.

  6. Bizarre. That would seem more copyright-infringe-y than this because it's all original recordings.

    Could it be film-dependent somehow?

I understand film/TV legal rights can be quite the nightmare.

And differ wildly from country to country too.

Or could it depend on the country of the uploader then instead?

The makers of the bootleg clearly had no idea what they were doing, because they just stuck the entire insert as the track opening, let it ring out, then included the entire original cue.  Here on the LLL you can finally hear the insert properly edited into the rest of the track.

So the bootleg had no double material with an alternate there?

Hmm... There IS something to be said for that, I reckon.

Not as ever intended, but for listening it might work quite nicely...

We actually did test them on YouTube, and they will get banned. Even though the audio is original, WB has blocks on any visual content it finds (longer than a certain amount of time).

Wow... WB seems quite picky then!

Well, fair enough and kudo's for trying!

I would hate for you to get sued too.

You're doing such a good job; you deserve credit, not headaches.

However, I'd like to try posting an audio file on the site afterwards with the whole thing that could be lined up with the movie, so the option would be available and it would avoid that issue!

    I like that idea!

    Makes a lot of sense.

Plus... A "soundtrack release" like that probably would make for a nice listen apart from the movie too.

I'll be cautiously looking forward to it. ;)

If you want to see censorship in science, I suggest you look at climate change or archeology.

    Archeology too?!?

Knowing little about it, I wouldn't have expected that.

I'd be curious about any examples you might happen to know.

“Media” is the cancer coursing through modern society. “Media” is the destructive devastating virus, the true malaise, the real vermin.

“Journalism“ today flouts any basic standard of ethics, decency, responsibility, accountability and truthfulness. When the end comes, “journalism” wouldn’t be there to cover it, it would have caused it.

Plot to Tomorrow Never Dies. ;)

  10. Beyond was the first that felt like a real Star Trek movie to me.

The first was just a set-up. A good set-up, but a set-up all the same.

Into Darkness doesn't feel Star Trek at all.

Haven't a clue what they were smoking when they came up with that one.

At least Beyond went out trekking amongst the stars.

And the characters interacted in ways that felt like the characters they were meant to be.

I liked especially the opening where they were just out in space, doing their thing.

It still confuses me why that doesn't happen more often in the films...

I'd be curious to hear JNH's take on the material, particularly if he were really encouraged to embrace the old-school cinematically symphonic sound that Williams emulated for the series.

Voted for James Newton Howard too.

He did a really good job on Fantastic Beasts too, I reckon.

Would also be up for a John Powell or David Arnold one.

Those together would probably be my top three.

  12. Would they?

I'm surprised at what they allow.

There's this channel "Ambient Worlds" that has loops of plenty well-known film music.

No removals there; just some ads here and there.

From what I understand, as long as there is enough new content added, you are pretty safe.

"They" might take the ad revenue if "they" believe they've got the rights.

With this thread, the clips are relatively short and without their sound effects.

That should remove a lot of copyright concerns.

It's not like posting the entire movie online for free.

And nobody can complain about @Ravendor Studios

    ' original compositions.

People are allowed to post their own work.

Even when it's based on existing work.

Just look at that "Samuel Kim Music" channel for example.

I've once had a 'scare' from one of my videos.

Someone claimed ownership of the music, even though it was written especially for us and based on a 17th century folk tune.

But all I had to do was to press one button to claim ownership right back.

Never heard anything of it again and it's all good.

Apparently there are AI's scouring YouTube to find stuff that certain parties believe is theirs.

This can be pretty extreme as any random rain sound could be claimed.

But mostly this just affects monetization.

Viewers will get ads while somebody other than the uploader gets the revenue.
