  1. https://www.google.com/amp/s/screenrant.com/agent-carter-reportedly-will-appear-agents-shield-season-7/amp/ Something to look forward to next year...?
  2. The name of the person was mentioned on the screen, but I didn't write it down and I don't remember. Maybe if someone else goes at some point? I did make a video recording. It misses the opening because I didn't expect this at all, but otherwise I hope you'll like it all the same: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1H2DhJ6QhbgMOvdzCpr6cjg-ZaEdni-70/view?usp=drivesdk
  3. There's the Nimbus 2000 part that relates to flight...? Personally I don't much care about it being not 100% appropriate. Finishing with Williams certainly made ME very happy. Plus, the way I see it, the show was very well thought out to cater to a lot of different crowds at the same time. To get good reviews, you want to finish it with something that really inspires as many people of the audience as you can. And apparently 'they' decided that Williams would be the best fit for that. So regardless of appropriateness, I'd consider it another really big compliment about our favourite composer. And more proof of just how much impact he's had on popular culture that he gets featured as the finale for what was effectively a CLASSICAL concert. Williams can deservedly be proud at what he's accomplished.
  4. Yesterday I went to this theatre show: https://www.theater.nl/mijmeren-onder-de-sterrenhemel-andre-kuipers-kamerata-zuid/ It was the "tryout" and the first time they ever did it. There will be more repeats throughout the country the next few weeks/months. A string-only orchestra. An actual real-life Dutch astronaut telling stories about the moon missions. Historical footage of space exploration. And classical music in-between. Most was actual classical music which I'm not too familiar with. There was one jazzy SONG for the launch. A string version of the Apollo 13 theme halfway into the show. And for the finale showing the future of space travel... HEDWIG'S THEME!!! I don't remember hearing that string adaption before. Could it be the Mutter variation? Or is this a new one altogether? Anyone knows...?
  5. Wow; that's a REALLY accurate description of my situation! You are right on the money there. That one is written by Claudia Grey. I've read several of those new SW books and I found hers to be the best of the bunch. For some reason though, Bloodline didn't connect with me and it was a chore to get through. On the other hand, "Leia: Princess of Alderaan" also has a strong connection to the background and lore of the series, but I like it far, far better. I cannot explain why, when it's the same writer and the same character. It's weird. "Lost Stars" is an interesting one too as it basically doesn't affect the plots of the movies at all. Instead, it tells a completely separate story with brand new characters and the events of Episodes IV-VIII serving 'only' as background. It's an interesting approach and could probably be enjoyed as a fully stand-alone story even by those with no familiarity of the actual films. If you cannot enjoy "Leia" or "Lost Stars" either, I sincerely doubt you'd enjoy any of those new SW books and you're probably better off skipping them all. Could be. But I feel like there is prequel-level bashing going on while TFA does feel, at least to me, like a higher quality film than those. I might be wrong, but it suggests to me there is something more at play than the quality alone. My personal hypothesis is that there has been a culture shift between when the original trilogy was released and now, some 40 years later.
  6. I'll believe that. There must still be quite a number of those hardcore fans; but you're right that there are less than there are regular movie-goers who wouldn't read the books. Here's what makes it funny: As far as I can tell, the people complaining about contrivances in TFA are not what I'd call "regular movie-goers" either. This suggests to me there are two groups of hardcore fans: 1. Those who enjoy what they get. 2. Those who complain about what they get. (And probably some/a lot who fall somewhere in-between.) For some reason though, there seem to be a lot of very vocal #2's around the internet these days and I cannot help but wonder why. Is it really that much more fun to complain about stuff than to enjoy stuff...?
  7. True in my case. I'm not reading the new ones anymore. Would like to, but I just don't have the time. Haven't a clue about "hardly anyone" though. How do you know that? I'd assume if it were true, Disney would stop releasing new ones. But I'm pretty sure there are still plenty of new ones in the works. That would indeed have been better!
  8. That was the response last time we had this exact discussion as well. I'm not sure I agree. In a book, you can take the time to fully explain every little detail. But doing so in a movie is a different story. It'd probably get boring real quick and exposition is often frowned upon. You kind-of HAVE to skip over certain things, I think. A LOT of things if you're trying to tell a fairly complex story within a reasonable time frame. The question then is: what do you tell and what do you skip? It's clear to me that the makers of TFA basically chose for "skip as much as humanly possible". I agree they went overboard there and skipped more than they should have. But Rey's abilities is not really something that stands out to me as particularly bothersome. What bothers me much more are: - Where'd that First Order suddenly come from? - Why are the New Republic and Resistance separate entities? - Why oh why couldn't Han and Leia have a happy life together?!? That's pretty much what the book I mentioned confirms too. The actual explanations make sense to me. They're really nothing special. They've got no impact on the greater story. I don't see why they would've been worth mentioning in the movie. For example, the reason why Rey is a good pilot: She scavenges crashed First Order ships. Some First Order ships are equipped with flight simulators for crew training purposes. Sometimes she gets bored from scavenging all day and uses one of those simulators as entertainment in the evening. That's how real pilots are trained before getting an actual plane/ship, so if it works for them, there's no reason it wouldn't work for Rey. In other words: she's a good pilot because she played a lot of computer games. That makes her not a Mary Sue, but a geek. Not unlike us then.
  9. A lot of Rey's skills are explained in a pre-TFA book that was released before the movie was out. Therefore it cannot be a reactionary retcon based on fan complaints, but has to be part of the actual story as originally intended. They must simply have decided that a limited length means that explaining/showing EVERYTHING works against the flow of the movie. And I agree. Nothing wrong with leaving some things to the imagination. Define "excel". It's quite possible to be pretty good at something right from the start. But you're right that practice can make it better still.
  10. A lot of what she writes sounds quite reasonable to me. I myself definitely find inspiration in women that I don't find in men. And likewise, I often have a higher level of respect (and sometimes admiration) for them too. I'm sure many other men, especially of the creative kind, feel the same. John Williams for example, based on what I understand. That means women do (or at the very least... could) hold a lot of power over those men. The most negative thing that could be said about it is that it technically IS a type of discrimination. But in its purest form, it's a positive discrimination. And all that is a far cry from rape. In fact, for me, it's the exact polar opposite. Even when women offered me the chance to take advantage of them, I respected them too much to take them up on it. I see absolutely no harm in that. Of course when somebody crosses the line to actual raping, it becomes a different story altogether. But to prevent things from spiralling out of control more than they already do, I think it's important to distinguish between both sides and that there's a clear difference.
  11. That'd be welcome! Or at least a clear version of the First Order Theme that already exists. Is it just me though or does that Star Destroyer Overkill shot look like someone went nuts with the copy/paste buttons? I like seeing such a massive fleet, but the visuals look weird to me...
  12. Ouch; I hope it won't be TOO dark. It's John Favreau; is he known for doing dark stuff too? Elf, Iron Man 1&2, The Jungle Book and The Lion King don't strike me as that sort of stuff. So I'm holding out hope for something a bit more... well... hopeful. As far as I'm aware, the main character isn't actually Boba Feet. He's played by Pedro Pascal from GOT fame.
  13. Is this what Disney is doing now? Cancel the movie; convert to TV show? Now I wonder if we'll start seeing links to "Solo" in these shows as well. Surely Darth Maul's re-introduction has to be continued somewhere?!? And what about some young Han Solo cameo's here and there?
  14. I'm curious now. Does anyone here have that? Those exist by the Kanagawa Symphony Orchestra. Pretty sure there's a CD release of that, but I cannot find it on the internet right now. Anyone here who can help out?
  15. Cool! Very cool! Here's to hoping (they don't get sued).
  16. Watched this Saturday evening with my family, which included my very picky Lion King enthusiastic mum. The cinema was packed and there was a lot of excitement and applause going on. We all thought the movie was pretty well done and it was certainly an evening well spent. (Still... I like The Jungle Book better and am more looking forward to Mulan later on. And, apparently, TREASURE PLANET!!)
  17. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1hnJyL-CHMCKKUV4R7ERS1LXOBJgyikTy I've got a vague memory that the one I've got was done by @GoodMusician after I requested it, but I might be wrong there. I myself have combined and split tracks at will here and there, with little regard to how they were recorded. For example, my "Over the Himalayas" ends early; before the spooky bit for the introduction to the Indian village starts. That part I merged instead with the next cue in "The Starving Village", which seems to flow together beautifully. In theory, I suppose these two tracks should've been one; but with the tone changing so drastically midway, this split seems to make the most sense to me. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ErTbnRl0dCv2CR8BjuQScIu4TdjNt4Df I do something similar with "Water! and The Bridge", which ends right after the British fanfare. "Return to the Village and End Credits" then starts with the happy/relieved music right after. My reasoning is again similar: The music flows well together, but the resulting track is too long and changes pace drastically. The first bit is extremely intense and exciting, while the denouement is basically the exact opposite. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1UZfGv3uLetrdmxRzH43gcSOBUb7t_7S1 https://drive.google.com/open?id=173RRl743lw0mGE40N0qZaWP60ro7Cpvh
  18. Someone once made a version of Map that includes the film version AND the alternate in one. That's my favourite! I wonder what people here would think of such an approach.
  19. Sometimes they do make things better. Especially when it merges similar-sounding short tracks from different parts of the movie. On their own, they might not make much of an impact; but grouped together, they can. Even some of the micro-edits do work well. But more often than not, they're silly and cut out the best bits. Shame, really.
  20. Finally!! Only thing missing is a jeep of some kind. The original, smaller LEGO Ideas version did have one and I think that added a lot. Hopefully they'll release that separately then...
  21. I'm no expert here, but... Lair was pretty ambitious, no? That one is still my favourite non-film score I think.
