He actually was interested in making other films, including an earlier John Carter of Mars film, and claims that he has a few new projects in the pipeline, he did make a short in 2012 too. There was actually an article about him a few years ago, that was really interesting to read.

LLL just revealed they are having a CD signing event at Burbank on the 30th of September for a new expanded/remastered 2CD release of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow!

I LOVE THIS SCORE! I know there has existed a complete foot-warmer for years, but so cool to have an official release of it all. Perhaps there will be alternates? I still believe "Flying Lizard" had a film alternate that we never got.

Also, judging by their recent posts, Close Encounters of the Third Kind definitely seems to be on the horizon, too.

I think Lucasfilm-Disney have to be given credit for listening to the fans and trying to please them, but so far they've been listening to the most hardcore purist toxic loud minority, so everything's too much like the OT. I think they didn't dare put in political speeches and explanations because that was a major complaint about the prequels, and they're trying to distance themselves from those as much as possible. Thus, we have no idea about anything from the movie alone, which is a bigger problem than a handful of whiny fanboys who fall asleep when somebody's talking for more than 5 seconds.

You see, JJ cramped out and should have expanded open that in TFA itself. He made a balls of the political situation in that film. It's grand being that scant in ANH because it's straight forward good v bad and if it's the first Star Wars you've seen you don't need an explanation, if you've seen the PT you have the explanation.

In TFA, you've seen the first six, you've no idea why there's a bunch of bad guys after the "happily ever after" and you don't know why Leia is leading a "Resistance" when there's a legitimate government.

    Harry Potter here!
I feel like I've heard most Star Wars music by now, but Azkaban definitely still holds a great many mysteries.

At the BBC Proms Keith Lockhart essentially confirmed John's already prepping for Episode IX. From most accounts, it seems it was either scoring TFA only, or finishing the entire trilogy. Once he signed on for TLJ his decision was made; he wants to see this through to the end.

It's also not a stretch to think that part of the reason JW passed on RPO was to save himself for the task of writing a final Star Wars film in mid-2018. These are exhausting scores to write for a man in his mid-80's.

    I vote Harry Potter.

We have practically all the prequel music thanks to the video games, but not a drop from POA.

Me too.  I grew up with Bond movies that were silly, fun diversions that were really into cool stunts.  The Craig era has been marked with too much self-seriousness.  I mean they're still really silly sometimes, but the movies don't seem "in on the joke" like the older eras.

Started watching Fourth Doctor story 'The Invisible Enemy' earlier today ... amongst the cast was Michael Sheard, who coincidentally was also in the last 'classic era' story I watched   (Third Doctor tale 'The Mind Of Evil').

He was also in Star Wars, and was Hitler in Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade.

If Cutthroat Island and The Mummy Returns are generic, I'll gladly take more generic music like that!

something like this would be great. I powered through that book. I don't think they should adapt that specific story but it does show that a good story can be told about Obi-Wan on Tatooine.

I'd like Qui-Gon and Owen to have pivotal roles in the film though.

I'm not sure what they could build a whole feature around, but one aspect I think would be cool is if they got Joel Edgerton back as Owen and had some scenes between them, since there's some tension implied between them in the original. Arguing over Luke or whatnot, have a series of secret rendezvous between them (no, not like that....or maybe like that!)

In an ideal world, where albums would be perfectly put together and I'd have time to listen to them like that, I'd agree with you.
As it is, many albums leave something to be desired. And so does my available time.

Aha, I think you missed something crucial!  The revelation aspect of The Abyss: DE isn't the main program, but the bonus tracks!  To be more clear, the revelation was that originally Silvestri scored the film in a more "traditional" way, weaving the love theme throughout the entire score including the action cues, and generally just having more melody and standard orchestral writing throughout.  But then Cameron had him rewrite a lot of that stuff and the result is, as you said "a lot of droning".... and the love theme not appearing until after the drowning scene!

So, this is what makes the release so important:  Now, we can swap out the main program droning versions of cues with the more melodic bonus tracks versions and create a new score presentation that is a pretty big difference from listening to the one as-presented, with all the droning cues in the main program.  Try it out, its a fascinating - and fantastic - listen.

Gold's work for the show has produced some of the best orchestral/symphonic music for television in the last decade. If he wants to leave, fine, but don't replace him with someone who can't produce the same quality!
