Yeah, I found that line fascinatingly specific for a press release.  Is Lucasfilm pandering to film score fans?

I'm assuming this is going to be an adventure film and the thought of Powell writing a rousing adventure theme for Han Solo is very exciting.

Assuming, of course, he won't get replaced by Dario Marianelli early next year.

Composer John Powell, who may be best known for his memorable soundtracks to the Matt Damon Bourne series, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda (1 and 2), and How to Train Your Dragon (1 and 2), will be lifting the baton to score the upcoming young Han Solo movie, due in theaters next year.
 
Powell, a London native, has written music for dozens of films since moving to the US in 1997, earning an Academy Award nomination for his stirring score to How to Train Your Dragon.  Powell is only the third composer to be welcomed into the exclusive family of Star Wars live-action music writers, which includes the legendary John Williams (the eight Skywalker saga movies) and Michael Giacchino, who scored last December’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The untitled Han Solo movie will be scored in the style of the original Star Wars movies but retain Powell’s distinctive voice.  
 
The untitled young Han Solo movie, which is being directed by Ron Howard, will be released on May 25, 2018.

I think PJ is burned out.  I do hope he returns to directing despite him catastrophically failing at making a good adaptation of The Hobbit despite being gifted an amazing cast and budget.
 
And yea, I wish the 2011 Tintin movie had been successful enough that we already had two sequels by now.

I expected them to just be background characters; but could they have some actual story involvement?
I'm not convinced on overly cute characters being involved in the story... there's something that seems potentially too silly in that...

My newest pet peeve: those who complain what JWFan does or says like it's a monolithic single voice and the complainer is the only sane one.  Call out specific people you disagree with.

I know that has become somewhat of a meme around here, and I'm fine with that (there are worse things to be called than the "guy who loves everything!"), but it's not true, of course. I have an open attitude to everything, but I wouldn't be a film critic if I also didn't like a lot of stuff. In fact, I'm rather notorious for having passionate dislikes about various things -- whether C&C releases, Desplat, Giacchino, a lot of "empty" Hollywood fodder or pretentious art flicks, you name it.
 
I have a rather opposite angle as yourself. I rarely pay attention to those who -- from the get-go -- seem to hate everything, or are set within the limited timeframe of their formative years. I'm more interested in those who have a wide taste in films and music; who can appreciate things on their own terms while at the same time having a critical mind.

On the Internet, you will be criticized for hating everything, for loving everything, for hating the wrong things and for loving the wrongs things.
 
That's why people both love and hate the Internet. And they are wrong to feel that way, of course.
