Howard Shore's The Desolation Of Smaug (Hobbit Part 2)
Barnald replied to gkgyver's topic in Tolkien Central
Count me in the AUJ for both camp. When I watch the film and listen to the score they still retain a sense of optimism, of what might have been. Christ it's almost 4 years now. Scary. Seems like yesterday when I first heard the AUJ samples on that French site.- 7,481 replies

Both of you are correct - now let's just drop it and move on. -

So long as we're talking about New Zealand's finest singer-songwriter and not some abominable Star Wars character, I'm glad to have your support! -

Are you suggesting that you feel the same way about this song? That's fine and all, but you are indeed ruining the moment. Mention of Sheeran always tends to do that. -

I will defend Finn's song until the grave - Shore would have only ruined it had he been involved. I notice you've become much more antagonistic since you've got that Sword of Doom pic in your signature. I suggest you go back to the Bushido code book and learn the true ways of the Samurai. You can have mine if you wish. -

To be honest I can't really remember waxing lyrical over the scores as such, certainly not on a frequent basis. Obviously I enjoy them very much (especially AUJ) and have criticized their use in the films, but I haven't penned huge essays on them like some. I've probably spent more time on here defending the films, which are an entirely different matter. -

This is probably the pre-eminent place for discussion of Shore's Middle-earth music online,* and yet its frequently inhabited by about what, 20 posters max? I know there's a wider fanbase but even so it's still quite niche, much more so for the Hobbit scores. Even on TORN there were many commenting that Shore's music for The Hobbit wasn't as good as LOTR, and relatively few vehemently defending it, while awareness of the themes and such was often lacking. Maybe there's other music forums where Shore's Hobbit scores are held in such high regard, I don't know. But I can't help but feel you're being a tad melodramatic here. The general consensus is positive, which I think is fair, as we've agreed - but I'm not sure if anyone suggested earth-shattering. You're just trying to be different and edgy again aren't you? * To my knowledge. If there's a better place please point me in that direction, as I hate you all and would happily move to greener pastures -

Conrad Pope presents The Music of Plan 9 from Outer Space would be infinitely more enjoyable. -
Obviously erect. Shore's music excites them. No - that cost extra

I also have my limited edition, wooden case for the Rarities disc (not dissimilar in design to that pictured above) hand carved by naked Swedish Vikings.

I had custom covers commissioned from Alan Lee. Unfortunately I don't have any form of camera so you'll never see them, and so will just have to take my word for it.

Merchant would offer a certain type of Doug, that's for sure. I'm starting to wonder if we should get Kyle MacLachlan as Shore. It's far from ideal but grey his hair up a bit and we could be onto something.

No wait - Kurtwood Smith as Conrad Pope would be even better. And yes, the role must be filled by a classic 80s action villain actor. But who could play Shore?
