Well that's okay then!

When Doug said 'A LOT' of things are in the works, it has to be more than just his book (as wonderful as that will inevitably be of course).

Yes, they will cost $1400 apiece and they will come in fine oak boxes with rubber nubs.
Bargain!
My hopes were recently raised by this exchange (is this our very own Bilbo Skywalker, referring to us in such derogatory terms?):

Is that an expression from... whatever country you're from? I've never heard it before.
Does it mean the same thing as "it's likely to piss you off"?
Essentially yes, as in 'fucked off'. I hadn't thought if it was particularly English tbh, but I think others use it too. I guess I thought its use was more widespread. It's good for the health to be imaginitive with your swearing.

You are wrong about the nature of the EE. They are meant to be longer versions of the movie, including stuff that it's not absolutely needed, but they don't forget about the "cinematic rules" such as pacing. They still have to work as proper movies, otherwhise it would just be a bunch of footage put together without any regard. The EE are just longer, slightly more self-indulgent, versions of the movies. That's why there are scenes in both TLOTR and The Hobbit that were not used in the EE either.
That doesn't change the fact that any version of TBOTFA is a huge mess of unresolved subplots and tiring never-ending battles without any sense of realism.
Of course they have to work as proper movies, but still, they are bound to create pacing issues; as such, my point was that Jackson inevitably should not approach these in the same way, and, I suspect, did not for LOTR. A possible issue was that for The Hobbit (DoS and BotFA) at least, I believe Jackson edited the EE alongside the TC, possibly having little real choice (given things like the scoring situation). I don't think he did this for LOTR, but I could be wrong (certainly, he couldn't have done it for FOTR). If so, it might have been that he was in a certain frame of mind which led to him being a little more stringent (I don't think disciplined is the word) with the EE's, cutting things like Thranduil's introduction in DoS.
After all, there is a reason quite a few (obviously deranged) individuals prefer the TC's, apparently because they find them better paced (weaklings).

Another thing - I don't have a 3D player or TV so I'm not fussed, but for this price you would at least expect the sets to contain the 3D versions of The Hobbit films for those interested in such things.

Well, when you look at fucking idiots like yourself saying that if the set was around $200, you'd probably buy it (even though you already own all the material included in this set), they're right to expect that!
A touch disingenuous my good man, given that $200 is a huge way off from $800 (it is highly unlikely to ever drop to that price btw).
In any case, even if it drops to $100, I'm no longer buying it on principle. Fuck Warner (admittedly I'm too weak to boycott them completely, especially since they announced Salem's Lot on Blu-ray yesterday. But fuck this particular item).

Someone in the comments section posted this (http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2016/08/17/101555-middle-earth-limited-collectors-edition-blu-ray-box-set-coming/)
QuoteI've heard from an industry insider that Peter Jackson and company proposed an elaborate series of new documentaries for this release, and Warner Home Video passed because they didn't want to pay for it.
That about sums Warner up. They expect us to pay out the ass for largely repackaged shit for little real outlay on their end. Moreover, it raises real concerns that we may never seen this fabled Ultimate edition boxset if this is their stance. I can only hope this individual is wrong, but it smacks of truth. What other occasion would Warner have to do another release of this, short of the 20th anniversary of FOTR? I could be dead by then.

And knowing Warner, there will be more releases to come I'm sure.

I loved this film anyway but had cause for a rewatch due to Twilight Time's new Blu-ray, which looks absolutely stunning. Watching it again only increased my appreciation of one of the best films of the 70s, blessed with a powerhouse performance from George C. Scott. What a run Schrader was on at this point (Taxi Driver, Blue Collar, Rolling Thunder and this in quick succession).
A special mention for Jack Nitzsche's score, which contains some of the greatest sleazy guitar work in cinema. I don't believe it's ever had an official soundtrack release, which is scandalous, but I guess people could do something with the isolated score feature if they felt so inclined.

12 minutes ago, mstrox said:Dang guys, Tolkien creation or not, Tauriel was one of the things that worked best for me. About time we got to see a BAMF chick chopping orcs in these movies. If they had taken Legolas out of the third movie entirely and given all of those fight scenes to Tauriel...mama mia.

What if you only had to sell one? I can get you a good price

It looks very nice (though I'd have preferred different colour 'books', and proper disc trays), but no way does it justify the price. As I said, if it drops to about $200 I'll probably bite.

Thing is, you might have been able to make the case that Shore, like many other people, includes The Hobbit when he says Lord of the Rings, referring to his time in Middle-earth in general; however, the four years thing at the bottom pretty much invalidates that argument.

Didn't the first-print one come with a ribbon? I don't have the book to hand right now so can't recall

I think that's why SUH underlined and/or emboldened certain passages...

I'll alway cherish my copy of the book not only because its from the first print run, but because I bought it in New York City at a release event for the book, got it signed by both Doug Adams and Howard Shore, and had dinner with them as well as John Takis and Jim Ware that day.
That's all fine and good and all, but it doesn't quite compete with a bookmark I'm afraid.
As a fellow first-print buyer, I must say I'm beyond outraged that I have been deprived of this wonderful keepsake. Doug should personally mail bookmarks to all those who bought the first run of his book by way of apology. If he wants to include a few CDs containing all unreleased LOTR and Hobbit material along with said bookmark he will be completely forgiven.

Lol. Perhaps the interviewer actually said 'hugh' and it threw him somewhat. I've always felt there to be a distinct lack of 'Hughs' in The Hobbit.

Again I don't find that it makes much sense to break down and pick apart decisions made over 6 years ago.
Instead we can just make sure our wishes are known that a future release will include unedited full original compositions somehow. Actually, I'm pretty sure they already know that, and its just a question if any new release is even in the works or not!Perhaps it is encouraging that at one point Doug was consistently promising news of a re-pressing of complete recordings and until now it has not materialized. Maybe they changed tact and decided to do something different instead?

Will we ever get Hobbit Complete Recordings?

I'd be too delighted to do those things. Besides, I always possess a feeling of superiority around these parts.
