  1. I did think that, and I suppose it would make sense given that he didn't actually see/hear the scene. I just wondered because it sort of seemed like they were scoring the new scenes in order (or at least, the Hobbiton stuff).
  2. Mistake or possibly dropped from the final edit? Not sure what else he could have confused this with.
  3. Fiendish work. Certainly better than any of that worthless Hobbit bollocks you kept doing.
  4. I'm glad you found something productive to do during your time away
  5. Yeah I very much hope the film version of the AUJ credits song is released some day, complete with the lovely lead-in bit (I reckon I'm probably the only one who wants another version of Song of the Lonely Mountain).
  6. Off the top of my head, notable unreleased BOTFA music would include a sizeable chunk of Fire and Water, the fabled funeral composition, and apparently a fair bit of interesting music from the war chariot scene we have yet to hear (I'm guessing there might be a fair bit of unheard battle music). I guess there would be around 15-20 minutes worth there alone.
  7. Jay has the right idea with that 4-disc set. It's been what, 10 years now since the CR was released? That seems long enough to avoid complaints. To be honest, I can understand this composition not being included, but I'm more intrigued by the idea that its existence in the longer form may have been unknown for some time. Makes you wonder if anything else might have turned up in the meantime...
  8. Did Doug clarify why this wasn't included on the Rarities Archive? I think the previous logic was that it could be ripped off the fan club credits, but obviously that was before we were aware the piece was a good bit longer.
  9. Was it ever revealed why the longer 'Seduction of the Ring' at Amon Hen wasn't featured on the Rarities? Was it deemed not significant enough? I suppose that would make sense, but I'm interested to know of course incase there was a mind to possibly revisit the FOTR: CR someday.
  10. If we're supposing that his Hobbit book won't be out later this year - and it does seem unlikely - it would appear he's working on at least three books.
  11. This probably isn't the right thread for this, but since it's recent and contains related discussion, what the hell. Someone on twitter asked Doug when his 'new book' was coming out, to which Doug responded: I guess one of these won't be his Hobbit book (I imagine we'd have heard something by now), but given that Doug has seemingly had the green light for this project for some time, I'm wondering what he's waiting on the studio to give the green light on in order for him to return to Middle-earth. Is this a reference to the book or something different (like CR's)? I've no idea how these things work admittedly.
  12. So Conrad and his cronies will be in attendance, and Shore gets his long-sought revenge by blowing them to bits. Should be a wonderful end to a magnificent evening.
  13. Damn. I was hoping Shore would fire a volley into the crowd for the grand finale.
  14. I'm going to take that as confirmation of the CR's until my delusion is otherwise shattered. So Ironfoot, Beyond the Forest, something Smaug-y, and something else?
  15. If there is choir, I wonder if Shore might treat us to that full choral version of 'Misty Mountains' that Doug teased a while back? Probably not, but we can dream!
  16. His long and arduous journey is finally over: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36407685
  17. Wait his name actually is Thomas Wanker? How unfortunate.
  18. I'd like some details from Doug regarding length (and yes, I am still talking about the symphony) I sincerely hope it is around the hour mark. I'm just thinking if the show is, say, 2 hours, and it's about Shore's film music in general, I can't see half of it being devoted to The Hobbit. But if this is indeed a preview of a larger symphony, great. It stands to reason that Howard wouldn't put something together solely for this event, so bigger plans must be afoot.
  19. Yeah I really thought I was going to click on this thread and see "If Shore did a Hobbit Symphony, how would he go about it?", etc. Still, we can't get too excited. This is only a 4-part movement as part of a larger show (as far as I can gather). We're probably looking at what, about 15-20 minutes tops? And covering all 3 films? But at least it shows that, contrary to the thoughts of some, he does actually care about his Hobbit music and doesn't just want to move on and forget it even exists. Maybe a larger symphony is a realistic prospect now. Now we just need someone to attend this and give us a full report.
  20. Imagine the frustration had Shore's original intentions been presented live at the world premiere, then the known version was released theatrically? Being there would have been quite the unique experience. And I think attributing it to the post-production difficulties is a little speculative. These were only pitches, and they may have been nixed at a much earlier stage. After all, it is unorthodox in this day and age and has the potential to go wrong, which I imagine would figure into the thinking of WB going into the world premiere.
  21. Well that would obviously be much more interesting. Fingers crossed
