  1. Among other things (I feel like I've said far too much about the BotFA score as it is), I can't understand why they left out the full rendition of Azog's theme from 'Battle for the Mountain'. We're talking what, a few seconds? That's one of my most wanted unreleased bits! I just want to say again - 'On the Doorstep'. An absolute triumph. If the DoS score gave us nothing else (and of course it did), it was worth it alone for that and the (proper) House of Durin theme.
  2. At this point I'd add "Great booze-up Edmund!", but I fear few would get the reference.
  3. That's the one. I had to make sure I spelled the name right.
  4. That's nothing. Today I saw one site describe Maz Kanata as a 'fan favourite'.
  5. For me the non-use of Bilbo's Theme and its subsequent omission from the next two scores is one of the biggest losses to the films and the music overall.

It's the 'all sorts' that concern me... (well, that and Tauriel of course)

At times I've given brief thought to a decent story for a War in the North duology or trilogy, culminating in the siege of Dale/Erebor, and while there are certain characters and events you can weave in, devising a coherent narrative around it is nigh-on impossible without inventing some intense bollocks. Elladan and Elrohir would be good bets for main characters, but no doubt they'd invent an Elf (or just have Tauriel) as a love interest for the pair, and we'd get an intense and tragic love triangle, as one or more perish in the final battle (you just know they'd add Elves to it. They couldn't not).

Oh it will surely happen before too long (more films). It has the potential to be a reasonably positive thing in the right hands (I said reasonably), but most likely won't due to a number of horrible choices. If we benefit from a couple more Shore M-E scores (by no means a certainty) then at least some good will come of it. One thing I definitely would do, if I were Warner, is not flood the market. Release one every two or three years, especially if you intend them to be standalone efforts.

Yes. If they're going to go to such lengths to be that unfunny the least I can do is analyze their efforts.

A shit joke it may be, but in any case: why would MGM be making two of the films, given they only had international distribution rights for The Hobbit? Just leave it as WB for all surely? Also, an 'Adventures of Tauriel' would have made it far more believable.
  11. Unfortunately this also now means he'll be ready for us if we are forced to kidnap him. This could be very difficult people. Some might have to sacrifice themselves for the cause. Oh and btw - no April Fools business regarding complete recordings releases please. A lifetime of leprosy on anyone who violates this instruction.
  12. "Azog urges his wargs to drink the Dwarves' blood - boal-s presumably would be provided to avoid mess" "As the company sleeps in his barn, auld Beorn keeps watch outside"
  13. There's probably a good deal more interview footage (and more besides?) they filmed for the DoS: EE doc that hasn't seen the light of day. Some sort of limited edition DVD (or Blu!) release containing any unseen LOTR and Hobbit interviews involving Howard and Doug, and indeed any music-related bits and pieces, is in order. Doug could sell it direct! He could make a tidy profit on the side! They could even include the legendary unseen segment where the pair run through each member of JWFan and how much they despise them, ranking them in order of hatred. From what I can gather, what they have to say about BB is frankly unfit for public consumption.
  14. Plus these films are with Warner, who previously licenced out to no-one (unless in very exceptional cases, usually at the behest of the director), though over the past year seem to have acquiesced to Criterion's demands. In sum, no-one else has a deal proper with them, and I don't see that challenging, especially for enormous-selling titles of the magnitude of LOTR.
  15. Sorcerer? A fucking masterpiece. Amazing Tangerine Dream score too. Choosing between that and Thief is nigh-on impossible.
  16. I seem to have wandered into a thread where the greatness of Point Break is being called into question. Compulsion (1959) Like Rope, this one is also based on the infamous Leopold and Loeb case, and, again, like Rope, it is superb. Superb performances from Orson Welles, E.G. Marshall, Dean Stockwell and especially Bradford Dillman, who, as the ringleader of the dastardly duo, is as good as John Dall in Rope. Richard Fleischer made so many great films, but this is right up there.
  17. Clarke certainly did a lot of stuff for the BBC (and this is only that which survives), and much of this is unreleased (aside from Elephant, Scum, and The Firm, though a new director's cut has been discovered and is presented here for the first time). You'll certainly get your money's worth.
  18. Blu-ray release of the year wrapped up already. BFI continue to do astonishing things: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01BGX1BK2 BFI and Mondo Macabro have also unearthed the original negatives of Symptoms (1974) and will be releasing Blu-rays for the UK and US markets respectively.
  19. Except all of us on here! In all seriousness Doug, I'm sure you're doing all you can (and then some), and it goes without saying that we very much appreciate your efforts. Looks like it's onto Shore's office with pitchforks and torches then.
