  1. For what it's worth, some female reporter on twitter said she thought it was great. I saw that over on TORN
  2. I'm thinking we might see a flashback at Beorn's house, involving his own dealings with Dol Guldur.
  3. I'd rather he didn't really, because in one of the Chronicles books Stephen Hunter mentions using an Ulster accent to sound like his brother. Now the various accents of the New Zealand actors playing the Dwarves have been very good to date, but a Northern Irish accent is a very difficult one to pull off. If he can do it, then yes, by all means speak. And because Hunter said that I think he will.
  4. Well at least this means Jackson won't be finishing the film hours before the world premiere again. I wonder when it was finished? Maybe we'll get a vlog this weekend.
  5. I really think the EE of DoS will add a lot more, about 25 minutes, given the shorter theatrical time and the additional shooting block, where Jackson would no doubt have given himself more material for the EE. In which case, surely this time extra recording sessions will be required in the Spring (fingers crossed). We'll get more quieter character moments there so the more gentle themes (Bilbo, Gandalf) might get more of a workout. The close of TABA will offer a lot of scope for these themes as well.
  6. I think that is Bilbo's Took/Baggins Theme and not Gandalf's theme. And as I said above Gandalf's Theme is heard in A Spell of Concealment (1:20-26). Straight from the horse's mouth:
  7. Well we hear Bilbo's fussy theme a couple of times, and Gandalf's main theme is clearly heard later on (in 'The Hunters' I think?). And apparently that's a version of Gandalf's theme with the phrases flipped backwards at 2:30 in 'Quest for Erebor'. I haven't heard Gandalf's secondary theme though. I suppose the possibilities for such a theme might be limited given the arc of his story. Or maybe Shore wanted as much new material on the album as possible, and we may hear it in the film? With Jackson God only knows how much different the film soundtrack will be. As I said before, I'd be genuinely stunned if we didn't hear the Company theme (there you go BB) in the film. I saw the post in the other thread about Thrain's theme in the expanded 'A Spell of Concealment'. I observed from the samples that the opening part sounded like a troubled version of 'The Dwarf Lords'. Is that what others are hearing as well?
  8. Time stamp? About 4:14 onwards. Seems to intertwine with Tauriel's theme. Now that is impressive! I do recognise some of it from ROTK, so I think you're right. I like the way they're handling the music from LOTR and themes generally so far. Instead of quoting the fellowship theme, a moment with Legolas in LOTR is used that wasn't really a theme sort of becomes one. Exactly. It's a more intelligent way of recalling Legolas' heroics from LOTR without resorting to the Fellowship theme.
  9. Time stamp? About 4:14 onwards. Seems to intertwine with Tauriel's theme.
  10. The music from 'The Hunters' recalling Legolas' battle with the Mumakil is a nice touch.
  11. Running time confirmed as 161 minutes. So 8 minutes shorter than AUJ. Hopefully the EE will add a bit more though this time.
  12. You do know that they have crossed the Misty Mountains right? Of course, but I think we all thought, regardless of lyrics, that they were setting it up as the Fellowship theme of these films, given that it was so prominent in AUJ.
  13. For me the highlight of this score is that new Erebor Reclaimed/Thorin's Destiny piece (both made up names but you get the picture). It is to Erebor what 'Dwarrowdelf' was to Moria. Wonderfully emotional theme.
  14. I suppose there's still the extended soundtrack and indeed the additional music in the film.
  15. Was I hearing things or did Shore sneak a brief snippet of the 'Baggins' component from the 'Baggins/Took' theme near the end of 'Thrice Welcome'. Still no sign of the Misty Mountains theme, which is very disappointing. I'd like to have heard at least a couple of renditions!
  16. Since what we hear in 'Girion, Lord of Dale' is almost certainly scoring Thorin looking at that quilt showing the line of Durin, I'm wondering if this is some kind of 'Thorin's Destiny' theme. Of course that was a 'Hidden Door' theme! 'On the Doorstep' is truly sublime. Very emotional.
  17. This new Dwarven theme is killing me. The rendition in 'Girion, Lord of Dale' is superb.
  18. Thorin's theme in The Forest River is especially magnificent! Yes to Minas Morgul reprise in 'A Spell of Concealment'!
  19. Mirkwood is far creepier than I imagined it being. That action-y theme we hear at the end of Flies and Spiders and in The Forest River - I'm guessing that's for Tauriel?
  20. That motif in House of Beorn seems to recur in the High Fells. I'm guessing Beorn's house might be the occasion for a flashback to his own experiences in Dol Guldur?
  21. I can't tell if you're being serious or not, but I have been thinking that myself...
  22. There was no word of additional recording sessions at Wellington Town Hall, or of need of the NZSO or London Voices. Surely this is positive? True there is still the danger of tracked music from previous films.
