  1. If we recall that hint of Thorin's theme at the end of 'One of the Dunedain', the connection with Gondor is obvious. Evidently Arwen was at the centre of an intense love triangle at some point, possibly depicted in 'There and Back Again'.
  2. Maybe we find out Smaug paid a visit to Gondor and caused problems there after destroying Dale
  3. When I first heard that part I thought it sounded a bit like the opening of the 'Minas Tirith (Silver Trumpets)' theme. It's in 'Girion, Lord of Dale', so I suppose it could be related to Smaug, though it sounds a bit downbeat.
  4. Let's not feel too much sympathy for McKellen. I did feel for him for a second watching the appendices, but then I realized he's a professional actor getting paid a lot of money to do this, and it began to come across as him being a bit immature and throwing a bit of a hissy fit. I'm sure he'd tell you the same himself now.
  5. Well I can't really say too much since I haven't heard it in full, but the 90 seconds samples we've heard suggest that many may dispute the reviewer's thoughts on the first disc. Also, it's important to note that this reviewer has not heard the extended score, and a fair few tracks on that first disc are among those with additional material.
  6. Interesting. Can we hear that in the samples? I'll have to check again.
  7. Yes that's definitely it. I recall mention of the didgeridoo being used in this score. If true, will that be part of the Smaug repertoire or used for something else?
  8. Interesting tweet from Doug: If he is thinking correctly, I guess this means we may well get proper music docs on the next EEs, since there are no songs it seems in DoS, unless they add a number for the EE. I've had that sound before. It might actually be a Japanese instrument, since I first heard it in Shogun: Total War But my ignorance of musical instruments does not stretch to being able to identify it (if it is one)
  9. The Radagast and even Baggins/Took material I could understand, but I'd be stunned if the Misty Mountains theme was waylaid entirely after it's prominence in AUJ. I guess it's something Doug could answer on his blog.
  10. Where about are you guys hearing the Baggins/Took theme in these samples? I must have missed it.
  11. But on the Blu-ray/DVD we'll be able to mercifully fast-forward that and get to the (hopefully) good stuff!
  12. If Beyond the Forest doesn't play over the rest of the credits will any one else join me in marching on Wellington?
  13. If 42 minutes sounds this good, then how good will three times that sound?!
  14. Sounds like that new Dwarven/Erebor theme to me, first heard in 'In the Shadow of the Mountain' and returning in 'My Armour is Iron'. It'll be something to do with that statue or the door no doubt.
  15. That Dwarrowdelf-sounding bit in Spell of Concealment is wonderous! Looks like that theme first heard in 'In the Shadow of the Mountain' will be important, as Doug says.
  16. That action Mirkwood Elves theme in Forest River is spectacular! Tons of good stuff here.
  17. That music in Flies and Spiders is just beautiful. Is that for the bit where Bilbo glimpses through the trees? Hearing all this new music is making me even more excited, Doug was clearly right about the best stuff being later in the tracks.
  18. I thought I was going mad listening to the first track without looking and it went on longer! 90 SECOND PREVIEWS! https://soundcloud.com/watertowermusic/the-hobbit-the-desolation-of Bree music! Warg theme returns! And that's only two tracks in! Glorious
  19. http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2013/11/25/83271-first-review-howard-shores-soundtrack-for-the-hobbit-the-desolation-of-smaug/ Make of this what you will
