  1. I don't see how it can be anything but a new theme for (shudder) Tauriel.
  2. The Woodland Realm! http://tolkienisms.tumblr.com/post/67868337743/new-theme-from-howard-shore-the-woodland-realm
  3. I have to say, I'm not a fan of old man Azog. He needed to be a big brute. That was where PJ messed up. He should have stuck with Conan Stevens.
  4. Bloody hell I almost did when I saw the thread! I see he's posted it again. What a disgusting individual.
  5. Don't be silly, no one was already nominating it for awards. We were merely discussing the possibility/probability of it being nominated at all. You are already cutting confetti for the jubilant parade next march, admit it! The champagne's on ice as well. Some overhead, grand, sweeping shots of Azanulbizar would be great to see. The storyboards for the original sequence in the prologue suggests they planned on one such shot.
  6. ROTK at least had Boromir's death and Frodo being stabbed on Weathertop, probably more I can't think of right now. The trailers suggest DoS will briefly draw upon footage from the destruction of Dale as well as Azanulbizar, which makes sense if they're tel;ing the same narrative but from a different perspective. We know there will be new scenes showing these events as well.
  7. I notice that recent Latin America TV spot of DoS had the same scene of Thorin leading the charge against the Orcs at Azanulbizar, so there will be some existing footage used it seems.
  8. Don't be silly, no one was already nominating it for awards. We were merely discussing the possibility/probability of it being nominated at all.
  9. If this film does well critically, there's a chance. Even if it's the greatest soundtrack we've ever heard, I doubt it'll get nominated if the film is met with the same lukewarm response as last year.
  10. Wait! Where did they say that (I mean, the flashbacks bit)? Well it's not confirmed, but surely this is where we'd find out about Thrain, and how Gandalf got the map and key, so as to set up his encounter with Thrain at Dol Guldur? Unless they have him tell the story at Beorn's house (which is a possibility, given that they were going to do the Azanulbizar flashback there at one point)
  11. That's true, but it was a lot more straightforward. Here we'll have the meeting in Bree framework with flashbacks worked in. I envisaged perhaps a 4-5 minute sequence in all.
  12. 'Quest of Erebor' is only 3:22 long, and just over a minute of that will be taken up by logos, credits and titles. I can't imagine the beginning being just over 2 minutes long, given that we'll need dialogue scenes and flashbacks. I'm guessing the soundtrack won't contain all the music for this sequence (I wonder if some of the music in the film will be tracked, and it was omitted for that reason)
  13. It is, but it sounds like a variation of it to me (I'm probably hearing things though - it happens a lot).
  14. Is that the Laketown theme we hear in the latter half of Durin's Folk? What I presume is Bard's theme seems to feature in a couple of tracks, but we knew that already. Interesting to see if it relates to anything in 'Girion, Lord of Dale'.
  15. Love that bit at the end of 'On The Doorstep', with the newly developed Erebor theme going into Thorin's theme. That 'Dwarrowdelf' sounding theme in 'In the Shadow of the Mountain' is great. It didn't develop quite how I wanted it to there, but it definitely seems to be hinting at something more. Since Doug said it is an important new theme, I'm hoping Shore is going to do something special with it in TABA. Interesting to hear hints of the History of the Ring in that Necromancer track. I'm very intrigued as to why they'd show a scene involving him so early in the film, almost certainly without Radagast and Gandalf's involvement. Something involving Azog perhaps, or an early introduction to Thrain? The Smaug material is excellent.
  16. It's only 'Cool!' if we actually hear something. What superlative will we be using in the event of some site streaming the full soundtrack?
  17. Anyone in the US tried this yet? http://drafthouse.com/blog/entry/free-song-hobbit?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+drafthouseblog+%28Drafthouse+Blog%29 I suppose we should hear 'The Woodland Realm' soon at least. Don't know if this is also offering a download of 'The Woodland Realm' or something different: http://www.fandango.com/movieblog/hobbit-desolation-of-smaug-tickets-and-regal-super-tickets-now-on-sale-743973.html
  18. If you go on www.thehobbit.com you'll hear Feast of Starlight playing in the background. It doesn't seem like the full track but it's more than the preview.
  19. It's very possible, unless he's content to make do with Erebor and the Dwarf Lords for those individuals. A Thrain theme would make sense given that he'll reappear later. I suppose it depends if Doug meant brand new themes when he said 'unusual surprises' or the use of established themes that we might not expect to hear (I think something like the Balrog material would fall into this category). (And yes I know it was Dain who saw the Balrog but they might easily change it so that it plays into Thrain's descent into madness, given that he'll almost certainly end up in Moria after Azanulbizar and this is likely where Gandalf finds him and acquires the map and key).
  20. I'm intrigued by Doug's comment that the first track, 'The Quest for Erebor', "is largely based on preexisting themes ... with some unusual surprises!" So the preexisting themes - possible candidates include the Shire (title), Thorin, Gandalf, Azog, Erebor, hints of The Dwarf Lords, elements of An Ancient Enemy (not really many themes here - that we know of - but it would make sense). But it's the 'unusual surprises' that's interesting. Hopefully that's not a warning that we'll see some apparent misuse of established themes here (though Thrain's ring offers some curious possibilities), but rather hinting at the return of the Moria, Dwarrowdelf and (fingers crossed) Balrog themes. Perhaps a Bree theme building on material heard in FOTR? Can't really think of much else that would qualify as an 'unusual surprise'.
  21. I think Radagast would have gone down better had they omitted the stick insect 'gag' and edited the warg chase better. I think that initial hedgehog/spider attack scene is fine, no problems there.
  22. It's weird, because I've seen this film about six times now, and never once have I conciously noticed the bird poo. My attention just isn't drawn to it for some reason.
  23. Not in my book. A bit of ham is always entertaining, whereas wooden and plain bad acting never is.
  24. Lucas was directing and writing the script, how could he not? As I've always said, overacting is better than bad acting.
  25. So did SW. Well, SOME good acting (McDiarmid, Lee etc.) Look McDiarmid was great to watch, but he was hamming it to the nines. His overacting once he 'becomes' Sidious was hilarious though. Episode III is by far the most bearable though. If a newcomer started from the beginning I don't see how they could get past Episode I.
