  1. I understand it's where the magic happens, albeit the magic we won't get to see until the extended, R-rated cut. Something to look forward to at least.
  2. I only recall them mentioning the Shire theme, but I could be wrong
  3. I think the 'Courage of Hobbits' track will seal the deal with regard to the 'Baggins' theme. We know from the preview that this scene is apparently scored in part by the Shire theme, though this may have been a temp track (I'm speculating). Would be very interesting if the album presented something different.
  4. I would, given that that part was surely intended to score the company's journey up the Misty Mountains. I'd love to hear the 'Edge of the Wild' motif in the film, but I can't see it. Come to think of it, what do we think the chances are of the following themes appearing on the DoS or TABA soundtracks (note that I'm not saying in the films)? - Radagast (Original) - Baggins part of Baggins/Took theme - The theme heard at the end of Brass Buttons and in Out of the Frying Pan (did someone call it 'Thorin's Pride? I can't remember) - Edge of the Wild
  5. I think he means the 'Edge of the Wild' motif rather than the track itself.
  6. You know I never noticed that hint of the Dwarf Lords theme in A Good Omen, thanks for pointing that out tannhauser. I'm hoping we hear a grander statement of that theme in the second film when they're traversing that huge sculpture.
  7. Will you be uploading these unreleased bits of Roast Mutton, Faleel? I'm very intrigued to hear them.
  8. I doubt the speed with which Sheeran's song was produced as anything to do with the production. More likely it concerns his schedule, since he seems to be on tour at the minute. The problem was picking him in the first place! With Neil Finn, for example, it's evident with all that talk about the experimenting with Khuzdul lyrics that more thought went into it's production, probably because he had more time. In general I'm not sure about all this sunken standards talk. The lack of miniatures and bigatures is a loss, as is the amount of green screen and CGI, but these were conscious decisions taken by the filmmakers since this is the direction major blockbuster cinema is going. On a production of this scale, which has been developed for something like 5-6 years, I wouldn't want to accuse anyone of cutting corners and putting in less effort.
  9. Ah sorry about that. The Girion flashback looks intriguingly long, though I was hoping 'Quest for Erebor' would be longer (the sequence might still be in the film)
  10. Have running times been posted yet? Credit to Calvin Scholtz on Doug's blog: Disc 1 1.The Quest for Erebor 3:22 2 Wilderland 4:56 3 A Necromancer (Bonus Track) 2:54 4 The House of Beorn (Extended Version) 4:52 5 Mirkwood (Extended Version) 5:31 6 Flies and Spiders (Extended Version) 9:35 7 The Woodland Realm (Extended Version) 5:14 8 Feast of Starlight 2:48 9 Barrels Out of Bond 1:50 10 The Forest River (Extended Version) 5:10 11 Bard, a Man of Lake-Town (Extended Version) 3:18 12 The High Fells (Extended Version) 3:38 13 The Nature of Evil 3:20 14 Protector of the Common Folk 3:35 Total: 62:07 Disc 2 1 Thrice Welcome 3:33 2 Girion, Lord of Dale (Extended Version) 4:15 3 Durin's Folk (Extended Version) 3:04 4 In the Shadow of the Mountain 2:15 5 A Spell of Concealment (Extended Version) 3:22 6 On the Doorstep 7:46 7 The Courage of Hobbits 3:00 8 Inside Information 3:48 9 Kingsfoil 2:25 10 A Liar and a Thief 3:41 11 The Hunters (Extended Version) 9:55 12 Smaug (Extended Version) 6:29 13 My Armor Is Iron 5:16 14 I See Fire (performed by Ed Sheeran) 5:00 15 Beyond the Forest 5:25 Total: 70:14 That's a lot of music. If this is representative of the film (yes, I know, I know) then there can't be much left, considering a time of 156 minutes was bandied about recently.
  11. That evil-sounding voice after the Orc talks...is that the spiders? I'm thinking either them, the Witchking or the Necromancer at least.
  12. Glad you're liking Crowded House! Being as this song isn't getting a release elsewhere it will definitely shift more albums. I'd be somewhat amused if it ended up getting an Oscar nomination, but if it's a lean year you never know. According to TORN, they've done a video for the song, as it was played at cinemas last night before the 20 minutes of film footage. Do we think it's got film clips in or not? Sheeran riding on top of Smaug whilst playing his guitar?
  13. The song does nothing for me. The problem is this - while some of the lyrics suggest otherwise, it doesn't feel like it's about a band of Dwarves in the way that Song of the Lonely Mountain did. It feels more like a ballad some guy is singing to his loved one on the eve of some apocalyptic event - dare I say it, a love song. I suspect many teenage girls will love it as a result.
  14. Can we really see Shore being involved in the song? I'd be amazed.
  15. Finn has more talent than Sheeran could ever dream of, regardless of what people thought of 'Song of the Lonely Mountain'. I can understand people here disliking Ed Sheeran for being so mainstream but you really don't all need to be so harsh. I'm pretty sure he's a singer/songwriter and actually is talented, unlike lots of modern 'artists'. Also, the song could actually be good. I'm usually far more positive about these films than most on here but having heard some of his music before I really can't see that happening - unless you're one of the millions of teenage girls who seem to like his music.
  16. 'The Hunters' refers to what exactly? Azog's band? Doesn't really fit Dol Guldur. And if that's the case, then we won't be seeing much Dol Guldur near the end of the film (unless we're not getting the music for these scenes)
  17. Warner is obviously pressing for the teenage girl fanbase for this one, push it a couple of hundred million dollars higher. If this turns out to be anything other than the weakest Middle-earth film to date I'll be stunned.
  18. Finn has more talent than Sheeran could ever dream of, regardless of what people thought of 'Song of the Lonely Mountain'.
  19. Not a cat's chance in hell did Shore write the song. "I see fire"?!? God help us.
  20. If these are the track titles, at least it sounds like Girion is getting a meaty flashback, and 'Durin's Folk' is intriguing. Could this be another flashback scene? I see Sheeran's tweeting something about 'Midnight tonight' on twitter. Perhaps this is when the press release will appear, or - gulp - his song is given first play. Let's hope for the former.
  21. The worst one is the other story I posted, suggesting he was in New Zealand last month working on a secret project. Therefore it has to be him. Why have they gone after this whiny flange?
  22. Ed Sheeran?!? Christ I hope this is bollocks! You 'Song of the Lonely Mountain' haters will be begging for Neil Finn before the credits are through. EDIT: Oh no it all adds up! How come we didn't notice this before? http://www.express.co.uk/news/showbiz/388131/Ed-Sheeran-receives-The-Hobbit-sword-from-Peter-Jackson http://www.morefm.co.nz/Ed-Sheeran-Makes-Surprise-Trip-to-New-Zealand/tabid/92/articleID/9283/Default.aspx
