I'm expecting a 'Fire and Ruin' track near the end, though 'Smaug's Noble Death' would be far funnier.

It probably is, but I didn't like how it just came out of the blue, and the New Zealand-ness of it all. Perhaps I might have got it had I actually heard of her beforehand.
As it is though, it's increasingly looking like no song, especially given what Boyens said. Unless they just play 'Song of the Lonely Mountain' at the end of every film...

The song's going to be performed by Lorde. She's an up and coming NZ singer-songwriter.
Is this confirmed? Because I'd rather she doesn't. I was hoping for male singers for these films. Or not at all.

Plus I am excited to see Howard Shore with Doug Adams on the EE extras. It will be a hard wait until 15th of November.

Does it ever work? Someone will usually say 'Thanks Doug' and then, once we're sure he's gone, the doom-mongering starts up again, often worse than before.
We wouldn't have it any other way.

He's no longer called the Necromancer after these films - he's a big eye called Sauron, so it doesn't matter anymore. Plus they could say that he lost his necromancer abilities once he left Dol Guldur because, you know, its the Hill of Sorcery, and has some kind of magical powers itself. Let's just say it's built on ancient Elvish burial ground or something. You know it makes sense.
And they can't show the Witch King dancing around a fire because they already established he's scared of being burned. Just go with me on this.

The thing is, they may feel obliged to show why the Necromancer is called the Necromancer. That's probably why we're getting this entombed Nazgul BS. It might also be why they go with the zombie Azog thing.

Unfortunately I still suspect the resurrection thing will come to fruition, and be revealed in DoS. Unless they go with the angle that Azog is serving Sauron because he's an Orc and these films have established that Orcs live to serve Sauron. I don't think the masses would question it at least. Does Azog have a choice in the matter? Is a Gundabad chief strong and independent enough to choose whether or not to serve Sauron?

So the reason Azog is chasing the company in AUJ is not for revenge, it's because Sauron sent Azog to get back a dwarven ring of power from Thorin?
Why not? It would at least explain why Azog has suddenly re-appeared to hound Thorin, and would link the two arcs together. It's not the worst idea PJ could come up with.

Most of Azog's band have CGI faces in AUJ, and there's a couple in the Moria battle who do.
I don't mind CGI but it needs to look convincing. Some of the faces in AUJ didn't really do it for me. There's a particular one in Azog's group with a weird nose who I didn't like, always thought he in particular looked too cartoony.

The theme is wonderful. I know some thought it overused, but I don't really subscribe to that. Yes I'd have liked to have heard that 'Edge of the Wild' motif worked in a bit more but there may still be time for that.

So if there is much greater consistency between the DoS album and the film score, and less tracking, what do we attribute it to? Less room to fall back on LOTR music? PJ being present at the recording sessions? The soothing influence of Conrad Pope?

Actually the press release for the soundtrack appeared on 1st November last year, so we could be just 4 days away...

Ok so it seems that the 1-minute previews of each track appeared on 8th November last year, on qubuz. The press release came on the 2nd November, and Radagast the Brown appeared online on the 5th. The Empire full listen was on the 13th I think.
Remains to be seen if all this happens again though.

Yes, one of the pieces I want is the film version of Finn's song with that lovely rendition of the Misty Mountains theme preceding it.

I was thinking - there's zero chance of a track being called 'Queer Lodgings' right? It'll probably be 'Strange Lodgings' instead.
