The Last Jedi THE LAST JEDI - OST Album MUSIC Discussion (No Movie Spoilers)
ocelot replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
What? You have to be joking right? You think Williams wrote that after hearing the trailer? LOL, the score was done 6 months before the trailer came out. -

Depends if the existing material already has the piece/s or if Williams is rewriting things into a suite. Plus, after they have it, they take time to go through every note to make sure there are no slip ups and for some odd reason they told me that takes a ton of time. I called them once as they were on the cusp of releasing the score to that centennial thing Williams and Spielberg did (forgot the name) and they said they put that on hold to rush out one of his film ones. So depends on demand as well. But at least you have his previous 6 Star Wars to like. I think my favorite score is TPM. Love his writing in that. But I am loving this new trilogy as well. I love that he keeps growing and changing, but when someone changes their style or it grows with the person, because music is subjective, it can't appeal to everyone. Anyway, good luck on your dissertation. -

Who says you have to like every score from every composer. You have a right not to like this score. One of my favorite composers is Maurice Ravel and I personally can not listen to Bolero. Now Daphnis or La Valse and many others, Yes Please!!!!! Same can be said for R. Strauss, Rachmaninoff, Puccini, Steiner, Waxman, Raksin, Walton, Korngold, Barber, Stravinsky, Williams and many others Hey, he's still firmly in his 80s -

No but I did wait up till 4 am to get it as soon as it dropped, lay in bed, put my hands behind my head, took in the first track and then fell asleep because i was so tired, lol Yes he frequently changes things afterwards to come up with concert arrangements if he has not done so beforehand. -

He had written a bunch of things, but remember, it's not up to Williams. The director has the final decision as to what music goes where. -

Listen to the landing. The last chord of the first line of both, and the chord that precedes it and starts the theme. Lets for an example start with D minor, both land on G Major. In The Force theme it hits it more strongly or more Masculine with the tune landing on the tonic (G), of the G major chord. In Rey's theme, the tune has a slightly more gentler landing in the G chord by landing on D, the 5th. It just hit me the first time I heard it. I hadn't seen the film yet. I heard that, went "What?!" went to the piano and said "F***er just gave us a female force user in the theme" -

Nah, it's cute man. Why not use themes from John Williams and have fun and do your own thing with it. To me it's the ultimate compliment and it made me laugh, love it, hahaha At least he's starting with samples from Williams rather than some other hip hop/rap thing. He's having fun First time I hear Rey's theme, I pickup the phone to another Star Wars geek and said, mark my words, this is the force user not Finn. This is his feminine interpretation of the Force Theme musically (chord wise). It didn't make me think of Potter, but it did make me think of Dvorak New World Symphony. -

That's the King Mark I've been waiting to hear since I came back! -
It scares me when you ask that and I hesitate with modern action scoring because most of it tends to be banal and easy as pop music to write, where with Williams, and adventure classical scoring, I love the intricacy of that type of scoring because that orchestral way, for me, is the pinnacle of writing. So many modern action music tends to just be repeated notes ad nauseam, however I am sure he wouldn't do that and he would still be a master composer and orchestrator with it no matter what. We Shall See!!!!!

How about those reviews of The Last Jedi?! Right? -
Hehe, except for the first one I just did not click any other spoilers. That's surprising. For once I'm happy to just get the cd or get to the film, whichever comes first. Seriously it's a few days. Trust me, you'll love the score. Recycled OT means they used the themes, which he has to. Luke is there Leia is there, if they are together, Luke and Leia's theme is used. If there is a force ghost of Yoda, his theme will be used. Force theme, Rebel Fanfare etc etc... It's part of the same universe so of course he will be using these themes or it wouldn't make sense. Relax, go, and enjoy!

Well, he is like 113 at this point, lol

Nomination I can understand if there was no one better to nominate, but from what I remember there were so many more worthy nominations that year that I don't believe she was nominated in any other awards show for acting, be it Oscar, Bafta, screen actors guild award or anything. Also saying give another award to Streep, well, Streep doesn't actually have that many Oscars, she's been nominated so many times like Williams and rightly so. However if you are not going to give the oscar or other award to streep, the alternative better damn well deserve it acting wise. It's like When Memoirs of a Geisha got snubbed over Brokeback Mountain. Love Brokeback Mountain as a film but for score? Really? 13 minutes of music of which most of it was ad libbed by a guitar player? WTH!!! lol Thank you x
-
Yes of course I saw it and no I didn't think she should have been nominated heh. It was her best performance by far in her acting career but that's not saying much And I love Madonna, she puts on the best concerts hands down!!! I will always get a ticket for that, but lets be real when it comes to acting. At least this is my opinion. If you think she deserved it, that's your right of course!

The Last Jedi THE LAST JEDI - Verizon's Death Star 360 Promo music
ocelot replied to Will's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Guys those do not sound like synth strings to me when it starts, plus the writing is sharp and the orchestration of the brass is very Williams. The way he changes the tune from one bar to the next by changing one note is also his signature. I mean come on, are you guys that dumb? It's obviously the unused music from Ready Player One -
First everyone knows I think Williams is the genius of film music, however, speaking of the golden globes..... Didn't Madonna win for best actress?

Guys, regarding the possible tracked music in the end credits, if that is where you guys are saying it is. There was a post a while ago, can't remember on what website, where it was said that Williams is doing a tribute to Carrie Fisher in the end credits. Maybe that's what it is being used for? -

Yeah Iw as wondering about that. Watched it too and he wasn't with the Collider crew, plus they were still going into the venue when he said it. I can't imagine though that he was commenting on the livestream.... That wasn't the score at all, it was synth drums and samples. Maybe he has an early copy of the score to review? Dunno...
