NEW VIDEO: John Williams and Rian Johnson at Last Jedi scoring sessions

He's 85 working extremely long hours on mixing and you think Williams sounded old? Johnson almost forgot what he wrote and directed, lol That was cute! -
John Williams to Score Kobe Bryant short film "Dear Basketball"
ocelot replied to pete's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I highly doubt it. Williams has a knack of going into a project and leaving another behind unless it is in that vein of scoring. This is more like Leaving hogwarts / The BFG with a little Americana thrown in. It would hardly fit in to star wars on any level. Completely different chord structures and modulations. It would fit more in Disney (and yes Star Wars is now Disney, but I mean the animations of old). It's very warm and heartfelt. Whether he releases it or not as it is here, I bet he makes a concert version of it which will be released on an album. Since it is really based on one theme, the concert version where he can organically have time to develop the theme and make an actual piece of it would suit me better anyway. I'm happy to wait for that version for my listening. As for this supposed assault or non assault. I don't get into any of that. If I did most of the people I listen to and watch on screen I'd have to throw out. I separate the personal from the artist and enjoy the artist. Otherwise forget most of the movies and tv you all are happy to watch. Casting Couch anyone? -
The Cast and creators lined up for it actually sounds great so far. There's some really good talent lining up cast wise not to mention the directors on it. Hopefully will be a fun movie. I'm with you Will. I actually love the Politics. It wasn't the politics that was boring int he prequels it was the awful writing and implementation of the politics amongst other horrid factors. I've mentioned this before. There's a book called Bloodline, by Claudia Gray, set 6 years before TFA. It's Leia centric, no jedi, no Sith, very much political and how Leia ends up being outed and ending up no longer part of the Senate but out as a general with her own forces, One of the best Star Wars books I have ever read and on most people's best as well. So again, it's not the politics that is boring, but how politics is written that makes it gripping or not. Also there was a statement by Bob Eiger stating that we will find out what Han Solo's real name is and how he got his name. Kathleen Kennedy just issued a statement stating that Han Solo is his name, we are merely finding out more about him.

No, no Obi Wan movie has been confirmed, announced or even mentioned by Disney. The only thing we know is that Ewan McGregor is interested and that was a while ago.
-
So here's a scenario. Disney hasn't put forward what the next stand alone movie is gonna be. Also Ewan McGregor did not appear in any form at Star Wars celebration, not in person and not sending in a video message like Jackson and Neeson did. Now, what if they are keeping him away for a specific reason because even his uncle was there at celebration and he's been cantankerous about Star Wars and his role in it. So what if the reason Ewan is absent is because at some point in the Han Solo movie he, Han, is at Mos Eisley, maybe the cantina, and we see Obi Wan in the background looking shady, and that, my friends, tells us what the next stand alone film is gonna be.....

Oh, lol, my bad

Why on Earth would you want anyone else conducting? He's only been doing that lately for full concerts because of his age and the energy needed for it. I think because they were sitting behind the curtain for a very long time with the instruments getting cold made the whole french horn solo flat. It happens if the place is cold. They should have done a quick tuning before the start.

That's all cool and fine, but remember, these trio of films come out every 10/20 years, right? It's about igniting the love for a new generation of fans. New kids who can go explore the light and the dark and the rich characters created. Also for someone like myself who hates film in general and prefers the ongoing saga of TV like Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, The Good Wife, Sherlock etc, for me, this is what I want because I get bored and annoyed with going to see one film and then it's over in 90 to 120 minutes. I want to know what is next. My curiosity gets peaked and when I am finally invested it's over? I'm not interested in that. I don't see the point of it. I want to know what happens after. Where the characters go, who dies, who changes sides, who grows from their experiences. It's the journey that counts for me. And the most important thing for myself in particular when it comes to this franchise is Williams music. In my opinion this is his greatest symphony. I want him to end at 9 and have this be the greatest output of any film composer when it comes to a franchise. This is his legacy and I want to see him complete it hopefully. If 8 is his last, then fine, it's still his master work, but I hope he gets to 9. After he is done with them, I will still remain because I love the characters and I want to know more. I read the book Bloodline, set 6 years before The Force Awakens. What a book. It's a political book, no Jedi, no lightsabers, and Leia centric, about her fall from the Senate and how she finds out about this new rise of evil we see in The Force Awakens and how she sort of becomes this outcast General who is leading a band of rebels and doesn't have the backing of the Senate. I love how JJ and Johnson spoke heavily to the author, Claudia Grey, to make her story go into both episodes 8 and 9 and how it will influence both. I love the interconnectedness of all the realms. How Rebels series ties into Rogue one that ties into A New Hope.... It's interplay to the extreme and creates a universe that is so rich in its tapestry and mythology. That's why I love complicated universes. When I say I don't care, I'm not being facetious. I just care about what I love and you should find what you love.

The Last Jedi Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (Rian Johnson 2017)
ocelot replied to Dixon Hill's topic in General Discussion
It comes from the book Bloodline set 6 years before TFA. Where there is a faction of the Senate that once they find out who her father was, go against her and it is the reason why she is General Leia and more of an outcast in TFA when in the book she was set on being the new leader of the Senate. Carise Sindian is instrumental in outing her and getting everyone to go against her, which is who I thought Laura Dern might play although in the book Carise is said to be Asian looking (I must have been sleeping when I read that because I don't remember reading that part). Even though, everyone still thinks that she might be either her or another of high nobility that is a thorn in Leia's side. But who knows, until it is totally verified she could be anyone or even just a cameo. It's not Vader's Helmet, it's Kylo's, but either way, the mystery begins...- 4,196 replies

The Last Jedi Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (Rian Johnson 2017)
ocelot replied to Dixon Hill's topic in General Discussion
hhhmm, I don't think so..... You had Rey's music on top of that part, so if Laura Dern is playing an antagonist to Leia which is what they are predicting, I would imagine this is Leia.- 4,196 replies

Anyone notice that they were smart to leave out Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro?- 4,196 replies

Hahaha, When do I start? Today? Did he do the whole thing or that last part? Because that first section sounds totally Williams and recorded live.

HA HA HA... Yes I know, that's my point, duh!, but people were saying that he probably would not compose the music to the trailer and I was thinking he would do at least the first one like he did with TFA. The first half sounds way too intricate for a generic trailer company is what I mean.

So who composed this? its not a generic trailer musically. Not with the way the force and Res theme intertwine. Kylo's motif coming in when it does etc....

I'm sure Poe and Fin are an item! As for me, I want to know who Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro are playing. I thought Laura Dern would be playing Crise Sindian from the book Bloodline, but apparently they say that her description in the book is Asian. I read it and I never got that from the description so now I am at a loss as to who she is playing. And I'm hoping Benicio Del Toro is Ezra gone neutral or bad but that's not really gonna happen....

It would make sense to use Rey's theme. It is still about her journey.
