ACROSS THE STARS - Williams / Mutter collaboration album
ocelot replied to WilliamsStarShip2282's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
It's fine but I am a bit confused with the Witches of Eastwick/Potter/Schindler's workforce ending..... It doesn't go in my book. I do actually love that type of writing, but it just comes out of left field in a piece that doesn't use those harmonies anywhere beforehand..... -
Yes Kylo has 2 motifs only. Not even full theme. That third lower string line is associated with the insecure Kylo Men motif. It can be played by itself, but the association is with that motif and not the Evil Self Assured motif. It's like playing the rhythmic part of The Imperial March without stating the actual theme itself. You still associate it with that, but it's not a separate entity. At least this is how I see it.

Korngold's Violin Concerto is my absolute favorite. Followed very closely by Walton, Barber and Mendelssohn ❤️ -

HARRY POTTER 1-3 Complete Score Releases Confirmed

Hated every score after 3 with the exception of one or two cues here and there. I really wish he had done them all. -
Probably why his doctors told him not to fly for years. Has he gotten back to LA? Anyone know? Maybe he can take a boat!

Do you always prefer the Williams version? I only ask because sometimes I do not like the way he conducts his own pieces live. It's the same when I listen to old recordings of Rachmaninoff conducting his own symphonies or playing his own piano concertos. I prefer other people's conducting and playing, but they are still some of my favorite pieces int he world. Like the opening of the Han Solo and the Princess from Tanglewood sounds very sketchy. Out of tune, and they aren't together plus too fast that you almost feel there is a triplet figure in there (for me). It's all preference in the end. However, when it comes to recordings, somehow I seem to pretty much always prefer the Williams versions. Very true

Here's a vid of Han Solo and the Princess from th other night. Sorry for the quality and placement, but I had to put my phone on my chest so as not to be seen. Could have been higher so you see the orchestra more but I had to figure out how high I could go without getting slapped by one of the ushers. BTW @Stefancos is in the whole video as I know where his seat was compared to me

Agreed. Loved that cue as well! This concert reminded me what an incredible score POA is. It's definitely, for me, head and shoulders above the previous two.
-
Definitely can't answer that as I do not really know the names of the cues all that well. I'm sure others could answer. I was so focused on the orchestra I wasn't;t paying much attention to orchestra/film. I can't remember hearing anything that sounded unfinished myself but I could just as easily have missed it knowing me.

I love the Albert Hall, been going there since I was a kid, but there are areas, when we don't get our member seats, where I hear some brass and bassoons bump off areas and seem a little delayed. But yes, I love the venue as well. I think you were sitting in the same general area although you, I believe were right behind the violins, we were off to the side more facing them but still that section, row 3.

Here's the Intermission for you. Just concentrated on the orchestra mostly whilst trying to hide my phone. Didn't want to disturb @Stefancos crotch conducting next to me, lol

Ordered it! Not for all. Go read! But yes... Whatever....

When I read posts where people have not even taken his health into consideration then I have the right to read those bitches. If you say damn it I spent over a thousand to see him but I hope he is OK, that's understandable, of course money is a factor to everyone, even myself. But not when it's all about the person who is inconvenienced. I can get shitty, but some here warrant that. I spent over 6K to get here early this year just for these concerts and had to rearrange my whole last part of the year, just for these concerts. HP, Williams and Star Wars in November. I still do not care that he can't show up. All I care about is that he hopefully comes out of this and can get back to LA. He is traveling on high altitudes with a pacemaker. He's hospitalized with 24/7 care. This is not minor.

I go between LA and London a couple of times a year. It's between 9 1/2 to 12 hours depending on the route and winds. The Jet lag alone coming into London wrecks havoc on my system. 8 hours difference is no joke o the body. I'm in the gym daily just to try and compensate and it still takes me a week at least to start adjusting. Where have I been when?

If a card gets handed to me to sign, of course I will sign it! The card is for Williams.
