I only write at the piano and then I orchestrate it into finale until the orchestral recording in a huge studio. I mostly write for 90+ piece orchestra so it always has to be in a large studio like Air studios in London with the Philharmonia Orchestra or at Katara Opera House with the Qatar Philharmonic x

Same here. It's a bit like if SCHINDLER'S LIST and "Across the Stars" got together and had a child. But very nice piece, ocelot! Good work!

Nice, and with interesting harmonies. At several moments during the piece I'm reminded of Across the Stars.

So I was asked a couple months ago to write 6 little pieces for the opening ceremonies of the Arab FIFA. This, Call to Champions, is the end piece that was to fireworks at the end. Hope you all enjoy it xox Aired on Nov 30th 2021. Conducted by Johannes Vogel and played by The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in the Katara Opera House in Doha, Qatar. At the ceremonies, they were split into two sections (because of the pandemic) in Doha's Al Bayt Stadium that looks like a tent, although my 90 year old neighbor asked me why the cookie on screen was on fire... O.o They played to to click to match the recording and were conducted there by Alastair Willis and Giovanni Pasini (1st Viola in the orchestra).

Horner only had 2 weeks, there's no way anyone can write that amount of music in 2 weeks. I'd barely be humming one tune that I thought was appropriate by that time let alone have anything on paper! ROFL Williams make's sure he has PLENTY of tie to write his scores and would never accept anything with less than a few months turnaround as far as I know.

That movie was Troy. They had around a week after Gabriel Yared was kicked off to score it and there wasn't any time for him to write all of it. It was mostly written by orchestrators including Conrad. He would just give them cues and he said to Conrad "write Horner".... And when Conrad said do you want to give me a theme or some cues to go by, he just allegedly replied, "No, you know what Horner sounds like" lol

I come from the world of Classical Music (oboe player) however it's usually Ravel, early Stravinsky, Richard Strauss, Debussy, Rachmaninoff, Rimsky Korsakov, Vaughan Williams and Puccini amongst others then in Film music it's Korngold, Steiner, Waxman, Friedhoffer, Goldsmith and Williams, and, yes of course, I am pretty influenced by Williams as much as everyone else, although I do love me some Borodin and Saint-Saens, and many others....
 
As for it sounding menacing. I sort of didn't want to write anything happy as it's the last piece in the opening ceremonies and a call to battle so to speak (soccer/fotball wise that is) You are battling the other nations till one stands above all as the winner so I went more call to arms than most would do probably, lol

I have experienced this exact same thing with a man and it is very frustrating. Imo, they are only necessary when they are necessary. I tell him all the time, if I could watch it in German without subtitles we would. And then Dune happens and he receives blockbuster validation. Thanks, Dune for letting the subtitles-all-the-time people have their day.

Would you care to share what styles were you thinking about while coming up with this? I am hearing some good ol' orientalism like Borodin/Saint-Saens/Nielsen, but also some marks of Williams' Indy and prequel music. Funnily enough Williams would write such music for rather menacing imagery such as a dangerous chase or a march of bad guys, so the display of pyrotechnics comes across as more on the wild / dangerous side - which I totally dig!

Directors like Chris Nolan and Denis Villeneuve love to mix their scores very, very loud on the movie. It was the same thing on Interstellar (which is a score that I like), Tenet and Blade Runner 2049. In Dune's case, the music is so loud sometimes that it's hard to hear everything else including dialogue. Sure, I have subtitles for their lines in Portuguese so I can understand what they're saying, but for people on English-speaking countries this must be infuriating.
