I can't wait to get my hands on the DVD of that film to make my own edit. And see how that Wraith theme would fit the Dol Guldur scenes.

I think it is sort of by design, but we have to remember the music Shore originally wrote was not meant to be the movie CLIMAX at all. So I think it has to do more with the fact that although worked fine originally, PJ didn't feel they were big enough for the climax of the whole movie, so he went for a more direct quotation of what they wanted to convey.

Hi guys, glad to be part of this community. First post here... SPOILERS AHEAD
From my understanding, the two more controversial music moments in the film are more justified than appears to be...
First... The "nazgul theme", which by the way is not exclusive for the nazgul but for the forces of Sauron as in the FOTR prologue, during the Thorin/Azog fight. First of all the music is underlying not Thorin heroism per-se, but the danger he is about to fight. That danger, Azog, is definitely linked to Sauron and even more indirectly but linked with the Nazgul. How can we tell this? frist the music for whatever he is in a scene is part of Mordor and Sauron's themes which is also part of the Nazgul music, second.. is implied throughout the movie that these orcs are in someway unleashed by the forces of darkness; aka: Sauron, third... if you pay attention, when Azog kill one of his ocrs, they are in WEATEHERTOP, the same place the Nazgul attacked the Hobbits and hurt Frodo in FOTR, funny thing right ? from all places they could be, PJ choose that one. And finally... the piece Shore originally wrote for that moment when Thoring charge against Azog, is very similar to the Nazfgul theme, you could almost hear it as a premature "nazgul theme". So I think the link is not blind at all, I think more will be revealed in the next two movies.
Then we have the "Gondor reborn" theme, which is I think is underlying a ROYAL gesture; Thorin is finally giving Bilbo all his blessings, its a powerful moment from a KING to a hobbit. At the end of the Return of the King is not only underlying a Royal moment at te coronation, but the success by Sam and Frodo, and not only the freedom of Gondor but all middle earth, so is a more general sentiment.
So we have these two moments which I think are more justified than it seems. They are maybe too direct, but I don't think unrelated at all with the context.
    thank you

    No we dont!
I hate this feeling of entitlement that fanboys have!
No one owes us any answers.
And anyway it seems clear enough. The film was heavily restructured at a late date. Causing much of the score to be tinkered with.
    Really no mystery.

Any reason why this thread isn't marked SPOILERS? Fucks sake the selfishness of posters and the selective moderation of our sometimes competent mod (who is also a freaking hypocrite) are perplexing to anyone hoping to remain as fresh as possible before seeing a movie like this. Have some consideration for crying out loud, sheesh.
Accidentally caught sight of some major details there guys, thanks a bunch.

I was more skeptic about the description of Gondor Reborn being played in the film than of Shore's work or logic here really.
My order was put on backorder for some reason. I wonder how long it will take for the record store to order me a copy of the Special Edition now. And of course the regular OST is on sale in every store.

Woah woah, why is everyone freaking out? This "news" came from someone who didn't even know what the "Gondor Reborn" theme is. And I don't think Matthew was a big fan of LotR music to begin with. I have a feeling that the theme/melody there just played out in a similar fashion.
Are we going to just assume Shore threw everything from his meticulously planned music out the window on the whim of one viewer who may not even be all that familiar with the music of the Hobbit or LotR?

The "Gondor Reborn" theme? WTF? Probably tracked music. Or if Shore deliberately wrote, then he fucked up!
    WTF indeed.

But I think these cues are very well known, so someone, especially a film score fan, would recognise it when parts are reprised. The Crack Of Doom ... really?

I'm pretty sure that, once the trilogy is complete, HS will have created the most coherent and intellectually appealing film series of all time.
    http://www.filmtracks.com/scoreboard/index.cgi?read=120081
Matthew from the Scoreboard saw the film and mentions that there is music from the finale of RotK reprised in the emotional finale of AUJ.
Any guess what exactly it is? I suppose that was part of the pickup recording sessions.

There are several different styles in the English language regarding what words should be capitalized in titles. They are often very challenging to remember and/or consistently apply.
For example, The Chicago Manual of Style establishes:
    1. Always capitalize the first and the last word.
    2. Capitalize all nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and subordinate conjunctions ("as", "because", "although").
    3. Lowercase all articles ("a", "an," and "the"), coordinate conjunctions ("and", "or", "nor"), and prepositions regardless of length, when they are other than the first or last word. (Note: NIVA prefers to capitalize prepositions of five characters or more ("after", "among", "between").)
    4. Lowercase the "to" in an infinitive.
For "The Hill of Sorcery", the word "of" is a preposition fewer than five characters, so it is lowercase. The other words are the first word and two nouns, so they are capitalized.
"Out of the Frying-Pan" and "The Edge of the Wild" have the same words in lowercase: "of" is a preposition fewer than five characters, and "the" is an article.
For "The Empire Strikes Back," "The" is the first word, "Empire" is a noun, "Strikes" is the verb, and "Back" is the last word in the title, regardless of its part of speech (in this case, an adverb).
For "The World Is Ahead," "Is" is a verb, and verbs are always capitalized, regardless of their length.
As far as the hyphenated words "Troll-hoard" and "Frying-Pan" and "Warg-scouts" these indicate the inconsistent application of styles.
After all, it's "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" instead of "E.T. the Extra-terrestrial." I would capitalize Hoard and Scouts.

Does anyone else think the theme at the start of Radagast The Brown might be a theme for Gandalf the Grey? I say this because of the clip released of the Dwarves arriving at Bag End. That theme plays when Bilbo sees Gandalf is behind the unexpected guests arrival.
Gandalf the White had a couple of themes in LOTR but he was left without a musical signature in Fellowship so it would be an interesting addition to the musical world if Shore has decided to give him a theme this time.

I am sure that "Dreaming of Bag End" is the second half of the end credits, and that the four SE only bonus tracks are original theme demos rerecorded by the LPO during (or before) the film's main scoring sessions. Mark my words!
