  1. Unlike on the consoles (one of the platforms of which is also massively trying to sell TVs to players), 1440p is quickly becoming the widely adopted "sweet spot" standard for PC gaming. 4K just isn't necessary for an excellent fidelity image plus the amount of horsepower that's left on the table as a result translates into prettier settings and higher frame rates. 1080p to 1440p is still a very noticeable upgrade.
  2. I treated myself to a high end 1440p G-Sync monitor last year over the first wave lockdown (I had nothing to do and nothing else to spend my money on) and I am constantly blown away by its HDR capabilities in loads of what I play. The depth in darker scenes and the way the colours pop in the likes of Destiny; switching back to regular RGB setting just looks flat and plain - and this is on a set which was also highly praised for its none HDR output. I couldn't go back, as far as gaming is concerned anyway.
  3. This is what Vincent is getting at in his analysis; the misgivings or flaws of the HDR reproduction are the fault of the display and not the original mastering. Actual proper decent HDR sets are pretty pricey. There, the benefits are stark - it isn't really a matter of subjectivity. It is academic though, particularly when one is already satisfied enough with none HDR content. But a professional demo of what HDR can do would sell it to pretty much anyone. Especially if they're gamers.
  4. One of the best efforts I've seen. Bit wobbly in the last scene, but the first part is near flawless really.
  5. In a way, she certainly is. I can't decide why though.
  6. Anyone heard of a Channel 4 show (The IT Crowd, Spaced, Peep Show, The End of the F***ing World, Black Mirror) called Dead Pixels? Someone in work put me onto it, so I took a punt. Revolving around a small close knit group of diehard MMO gamers, it's sort of a crude and nerdy (read: extremely realistic) sitcom roughly along the lines of Spaced, but with more standard British bad language and colloquial idiom. However, any regular international gamer would relate to the dialogue and storylines, but there's enough about it to possibly appeal to a somewhat broader audience too (sex jokes are universal, right?). It's surprisingly more funny that I imagined it to be, and the main girl is sort of a major comedy find, if you ask me. With a third season on the way, I predict this will eventually rise to become the preeminent gamers show.
  7. I just had to look it up. Completely forgot I'd watched that one, forgot it even existed. I don't know why, because I thought it was pretty good. Wasn't the final shot pretty epic, in a novel sort of way? Yeah.
  8. I agree with him. As always there's some great content in what Scorsese had to say.
  9. Vincent has spoken, and I have to feel for Alexcremers. What an embarrassing oversight on his part. For me, HDR has been the defining new tech advance of HD era TVs in the past twenty years, I consider it to be a genuine evolution of image fidelity and colour clarity in the moving image. I had no idea that OLED was so ill equipped to display HDR, and I'm frankly relieved I hadn't yet invested in the tech for my living room. Because that shit is expensive, considering!
  10. The first minute or so of the end credits from Star Wars 1?
  11. It does and it probably plays into why I generally give rom-coms a wide berth. Although I make exceptions for ones like Pretty Woman.
  12. First Contact was the first Star Trek movie to nearly make me a big Trekkie. I loved that flick, especially because of how proud the opening credits made me of mankind's advances in space exploration.
  13. Basically, at this point Gordy should just be awarded the next marque Star Wars movie gig, in lieu of a then retired (from the franchise) JW. Give the chap the proper opportunity to step into them big boots. At the very least, I'd expect it to be no less effective than Gia's effort. What have Disney/we got to lose?
  14. My feeling is the effectiveness of the emulation wouldn't necessarily just be limited to the Star Wars oeuvre, should something else ever be required.
  15. That it does. Which is why these comparisons are always a bit of a tough sell. But that last one? Suspicious.
  16. I know you guys prefer to play it down, but damn, listening to these samples (I'm not really interested in the direct comparisons raised), it's uncanny just how accurately Haab sounds like Williams. Like, exactly like him. In fact if some producer bod came on here and told us Haab's work was Williams, nobody on here would doubt it. You're all liars if you reckon you would be naturally alerted of a difference in a pepsi challenge!
  17. The Orville started out as something completely different to where it eventually ended up. It literally recalibrates itself over a handful of episodes, for the better.
  18. Wow that casting for Joel is pretty spot on! But Ellie? Whaaaaaaaa???
