  1. Sounds like someone's being playing ton of Halo and Destiny (Marty O'Donnell). Well, I always knew it was "Oscar worthy".
  2. Seriously though, how does this compare to the later Jurassic Park/World sequel reboot thingys? Because I think they're crud, but apparently they're otherwise quite well received. Could it be the case that lowered standards have been kind to Emmerich's own monster movie? After all, it did have to follow on from Spielberg's widely lauded original JP film - a time when standards and expectations were arguably much higher than they are today. Perhaps Jurassic World makes Godzilla look good? Or is a turkey still a turkey? Genuinely interested, because I haven't watched this since the day it came out.
  3. The Dave Prowse interview part on British TV, towards the end.
  4. What do you think of the main girl? I find her utterly adorable and extremely fetching.
  5. I hadn't either till my brother WhatsApped it me. I literally watched it out of "I haven't seen you in months because of the pandemic so I'd better make the effort" courtesy. Pleasantly surprised. Although I thought The US Office showrunner guy went on to make that space show with Steve Carell; not this irreverent comedy thriller set in the afterlife.
  6. Erm... you'll know why I linked when you see it
  7. Anyone else watching Upload? It's inventive in the way that The Good Place was, but not as cloyingly irritating as its later seasons. I like the way modern advances have meant its now not that unusual to see fairly decent special effects in TV comedy.
  8. Anyone else practice a total no phone distraction policy when watching films and shows?
  9. There's pitfalls there too, though. Superman in 4K for eg, some of the early Krypton shots are so dominated by grain that it overwhelms the image, and IMO harms it. I think a DNR pass can be justified in certain instances.
  10. That's the most in-depth I've seen Alex speak about a film he's watched in years. Movies he really enjoys don't get as much typing effort; and I think it further goes to show how people take much more pleasure in slagging stuff off than they do articulating the virtues of something better instead.
  11. First epi of Amazon and Greg Daniels (US Office) Upload. Potentially has potential.
  12. Hmm, so why do so many here frequent the annual thread and clearly feel so passionately about the Oscars to the extent that they'll follow the outcome of the ceremony and debate its merits and faults in the thread?
  13. This is surprising, given how you were keen to sing the praises of contemporary film music just the other day. Surely the Academy Awards are the ultimate recognition of this rich pool of mainstream talent?
  14. Ah, Teri Hatcher. She was one of a "handful" of screen hotties I greatly admired in my informative years. In fact the holy trinity at that time was probably Sharon Stone, Erika Eleniak and Teri Hatcher (in Lois and Clark).
  15. I never fell for The Green Mile like it it seemed the entire rest of the world did. Shawshank is a far superior film, IMO.
  16. Again, I didn't even mind the Robocop remake. Not a patch on the original of course, but I was hardly disgusted by it. Some folk get really wound up by inoffensive shrug movies for some reason.
  17. Ah, Zack Snyder... Alex's great white hope. Actually, I'm one of the few who quite liked Man of Steel, and I still think Warner went wrong when they didn't do another couple of sequels, before that Vs Batman nonsense. (I used to wish that never existed.)
