My favourite episode of the season was probably the snow planet one, it had it all for this sort of thing.

So Richard Donner is directing a Lethal Weapon sequel
Quintus replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
Saw this on Reddit the other day, my first reaction was happiness that Donner is still keeping well. Was never into this franchise though. I preferred its era peers instead. -
That's Hamill basically saying that he too would have preferred more of a "fan service" orientated Luke in the sequel trilogy. When he signed up, he expected to portray the character as the badass jedi master he bid farewell to in ROTJ. I mean, could you blame him? I'm sure Liam Neeson didn't accept all these Taken sequel roles because the character he played was a grumpy old failure.

Well said. Imagine how fucking boring this forum (or any other) would be if it existed in some sort of enduring state of perfect agreeable harmony amongst its members. Basically, the Stu and Jason ideology of how online discourse should take place, with the occasional, "oh no old bean, I'm afraid we diverge there somewhat, but let us not dwell on it." Yaaaaaaaaawn to that. Don't worry, it's a massively unpopular fantasy, probably because it's impossible.

What Is The Last Film You Watched? (2020 films)
Quintus replied to Matt C's topic in General Discussion
The Triplets of Belleville wasn't easy to get into (the song didn't help, at least at first), but I stuck with it, until it clicked. Loved it. Similar to my experience with Sweeney Todd, in a way. -

You won't necessarily enjoy it, as it's very cheesy. Plus I watched it with two kids, which goes a long way. -

The first Christmas Chronicles movie was pretty crappy. Chris Columbus took over the reins for the sequel though, and it shows. -

Christmas Chronicles 2 is one, that was lovely. Eurovision was probably on par with Palm Springs for me. Call of the Wild, loved watching that with my two children at the cinema just before pandemic life. Would definitely choose that adventure flick over Palm Springs. I don't keep lists. -

Me and the wife watched a fair few Netflix originals and movies from donkies years ago which I preferred over the Palm Springs. But definitely Parasite, that was great. -

Aye, look at that Guardian link. Urrrgh this is so pointless. But also quite fun (it normally is, to be fair). -

I mean, you just really overthink this shit. Edit: first Google result I found: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/dec/01/the-50-best-films-of-2020 I literally don't care if something comes out earlier or later in another country, it doesn't affect me. -

Yeah you were just being your usual pedantic smartarse self. Plot twist: I literally set Parasite up as a Jaylure because I knew you wouldn't be able to resist pointing it out that the film actually came out in 2019 in the US and elsewhere (I remember because it did well at the Oscars at the beginning of the following year). -

I barely watched anything, but off the top of my head I thought Parasite was good. -

Same here. Enjoyed it well enough though. But film of the year? Surely not! -
Star Wars forumites (the type of "engaged" fan whom Disney probably grudgingly refer to as "the community") are badly out of touch with what the regular Star Wars fans want. Just this morning I returned to work and asked my boss about whether he caught up with The Mandalorian over Christmas, which he did. Luke Skywalker was quickly the main talking point of course, and his words were, "when the X-Wing suddenly appeared and Moff Gideon visibly shit himself, the hairs on my neck stood up, because I knew it was Luke." I didn't bother to ruin the glee on his face by asking what he thought about the shit CGI, because I could tell he just didn't give a fuck about any geeky shit like that.

Be sure to tune in next year for season 3 of The Mandalorian.

My brother kept telling me to watch that movie, and I'm like hmm should I tho? -
The Boba Fett debut episode was probably the weakest episode of The Mandalorian so far. That shootout in the Star Trek reject location was lame AF.
-
Even if it's not necessarily a good vision. Just as long as it doesn't involve fan service of any sort, right? I think it's about striking a balance. And besides, healthy fan service makes strong fiscal sense anyway. Artistic merit is a secondary concern in blockbuster theatre.
-
Sounds reasonable enough to me. Basic fan service is more important than professional armchair critics realise, or care to admit. It happened with Superman Returns for example: the long awaited much hyped return of a fondly remembered hero of cinema, theme tune intact. Once the actual fans got the film in their hands though, many were surprised that the end result was an unwantedly angsty and strangely quite gloomy affair, a shadow of the character's tonally quite light and optimistic former self. Even Superman's powers of flight were largely depicted offscreen, the basic visual gratification of the character being strikingly low throughout the film. Fans rejected Superman Returns as being too different from the originals. It isn't really too highly regarded, outside of the the fiscally unimportant fringes. Personally, I didn't mind the movie, but I never watch it. I consider something like that as a lesson unheeded.

It boggles my mind that there's people out there who are still well into Star Wars even now, to the degree that they still enjoy deconstructing the mythos in order to analyse and intensely debate it with others, even after they grew up. It's like Star Wars never stops mattering for some people. To me, The Mandalorian was just a new show I started watching this year, it had some cool moments. I'll watch season 3. I couldn't think of anything worse than really getting into it with someone. It's not interesting enough, and it just wouldn't hold up to much scrutiny.
