Well, not everyone you might remember... :(

I saw there have been losses.  I always fear that every time I come back.

You come back to us now, at the turn of the tide!

Would that it were in my power to help turn that tide, like the true Pilgrim!

Which Star Wars stories weren’t for “women and girls”?

Surely nearly anyone can enjoy nearly any story regardless of the details, but it seems to me that it takes only a functioning brain and the capacity for good-faith critical thinking to realize that something like Star Wars - although here I wasn't referring only to this one property - has, until relatively recently, been preoccupied with the perspective of the men in the stories, and not particularly concerned with giving the women involved the same degree of agency and depth.  It is similarly not difficult to grasp how this would cause half the potential audience to, on some level, feel kept at arm's length from the stories in question.  It is laudable to see any shift towards narrowing this gap, however stumbling and imperfect that shift sometimes is.

Any banter I indulge in is off-JWFan, so I often feel like I'm either here to discuss music or annoy somebody

Magneto quotes are one of few things I could recognize though. Homo-sapiens and their guns.

The banter on here circa 2013 was grand.  Heady, even.  Now it feels like a house with all the children gone.  That's a Star Trek quote, for the youngsters.

  4. Fine impression.  I've looked over some of your previous messages and - as is the way of the world in 2024 - I can tell by the way you seem to feel about certain things that we're probably on the same page in a broader sense too.  I'm just not up to date on my forum banter.  All I've got are Magneto quotes.

  5. A truly funny thing about coming back to this place after more than two years - which were already preceded by years of accumulating absences - is seeing how much my perspective has diverged from some who remained.  This thread seems to exist now to memorialize Star Trek.  I find it to be as alive as ever, if not in the exact shape I'd prefer.  I am now 42, and always felt as if I were part of the younger crowd here, so that must explain the shock of coming back to find that so much I've enjoyed or simply had no problem with has been deemed unacceptable (usually on thinly veiled political and culture war grounds, from what I can tell).  I suppose it has ever been thus, since my first days here daring to say I enjoyed Zimmer's Man of Steel.  Anyway.  Star Trek is better than everything.

I wonder how TGP feels about this...

He watched the first episodes tonight - just for Ewan really - and I can't say it was that enthralling.  Came here to see what this place thought.  Music is just sort of there, innit?

    Isn't he banned?

Reports of my banning are greatly exaggerated.  I am merely retired from JWFan, the internet, and music making as a whole.  I seem to only ever check this place anymore when I'm away from home.  Hope you're all well.
