I think Richard hit the nail on the head. I think Horner would have done well with it. The music isn't awful although it has - intentionally? - campy and cringey moments. Rosenman's language may have suited an episode of the original series but by the fourth film it feels totally inorganic to the spirit of things and functions as a strange veil that does bring the whole thing down a peg, which is a shame, because there's literally nothing else to dislike about the picture.

Only heard it once so far but it's very interesting. The form seems fresh. -

Thanks for posting the video, I've wanted to hear the flute concerto. -
Long live the Discord. The forum is unreadable lately and it's not because of Bespin's amusing threads.

No Country For Old Men? Tommy Lee Jones' monologue about his dream is one of the most interesting, evocative ways I've seen a film end. -
It's good but frankly I'm already sick of it. These days seriously considering outsourcing all my demo needs and getting rid of my samples. I'm not made for this stuff.

I know we were talking about updating some of our sample libraries recently, thought I'd follow up after doing a bit of an overhaul with the help of some more tech savvy friends. After only recently switching to Cubase I've now started sequencing in Pro Tools instead of saving it only for work with audio. Not sure how that will proceed, I may be back to Cubase before long but I thought it might be worth it to try streamlining everything down to one DAW. In the end I didn't really update my libraries all that much. I am using 8dio's Century Strings and Embertone's solo strings, 8dio's Claire Woodwinds and some VSL woodwinds, 8dio's Century Brass, Hollywood Percussion from East West, Insolidus and Silka from 8dio, Embertone's Steinway, Omnisphere, Zebra, Diva, and Altiverb to bring everything together. Also sold some of my hardware synths and gear to cut down on clutter and get some new stuff. Now the synth lineup is the DX7, some Roland and Moog, and a growing modular system. Rack gear is cut down to a Lexicon PCM96, a Massive Passive and a Vari Mu. While I may have scoffed at the Moog One on announcement, I now really want one. Not gonna be able to convince Mrs. Pilgrim on that bill though.

Harry Potter 7CD Collection - SAMPLES and clips discussion
Dixon Hill replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Yeah I have a binder full of patch schematics. Off the top of my head start with filtered white noise - take a lot of the highs out and some of the real lows - with high resonance so it has a hint of real pitch to it. Probably some chorus and reverb on top of that gets you pretty close. -

It's true. I've tried DX7 emulations and you may as well just use any other synth plugin. The most valuable thing in my studio is the DX7 - I've made more money with it than any other single instrument. Other stuff may have cost more, and I do have way too much stuff, but nothing pulls its weight like that thing. https://picosong.com/wjBiK/ -

Pretty sure the classic Williams celeste is just a DX7 sine wave with a slow attack blended with another celeste sample. I'm told you can even buy the official imitation from Cinesamples. I think KK told me that, he may even have it. The rest of his staple synth sounds are probably also mostly done on a DX7 though I think I've also seen Kerber with a Nord. -

Brundlefly, good to see you! See I reckon Inception suffers far more from this. Many overzealous fans then and now tout it as some grand philosophical treatise when as aptly put earlier it is simply a heist film. -

All the militaristic stuff in CE3K takes it down a notch. I only really like a few early cues and the protracted ending but those alone make it great. -

About to enter a very hectic period leading up to Christmas. Gearing up for weeks of extreme musical workloads with one of Williams' finest exercises in tasteful excess, his first Potter score. -
