What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)
Dixon Hill replied to Ollie's topic in General Discussion
Oh the trumpet tune. No ideas there, other than a warmer take on the classic Copland. I can make no claims as to whether or not its his best score of course, but favorite, yeah, it is here. For me Horner is like Newman. There's much overlap between scores, and you can hear recurring ideas getting tried out in different ways. You sort of pick your favorite package. Populist, syrupy, maybe, but I have lots of time for this rather tightly composed and no note gone to waste score. Many fond memories of stoned listening. -

Almost certainly this was behind much of the tone, no? Likely my favorite of his scores. -

Looking at the score and that one is actually credited to JNH after all. As promised, I am surprised. -

Broadly speaking though. You'd have to look at the score for that cue to know. I'd be surprised if that weren't Hans but it would be a testament to how fused they were on those films. -

There is nothing that our friend thestat has said here which would raise my hackles, then or now! -

I don't see anything objectionable here, other than the digs at Balfe - there is a trend lately of ragging on him to the point of bullying that makes my skin crawl. Zimmer's music has led to lots of bad copies, there's no doubt. He innovates and everyone else is forced to copy. That's not good for anyone. -

Not surprised he doesn't like Hans' concerts but he's been pretty positive about his actual music in the past. -

I guess you're not aware of hundreds of years of composers writing outside the bounds of their own religions. Besides who knows what Shore is in practice if anything. -
I don't dislike Rota, but I don't get the Godfather mania, film or score. His Romeo and Juliet theme is great.

If you put the links in a spoiler tab they're still conveniently embedded but don't all load at once I think.

That tune never sounded better than those opening 30 seconds. Totally enchanting. More Delerue. Also
