Howard Shore's The Desolation Of Smaug (Hobbit Part 2)
Dixon Hill replied to gkgyver's topic in Tolkien Central
You haven't read it, right? Do you plan to? It's baffling if you don't intend to considering your enthusiasm for the films. Certainly. They are however not exactly experts at judging film music if my visits there are any indication. Yeah... like most places on the internet that aren't JWFan, the discussion of music is painfully elementary. YayI sense you have some issue with what I said, but between an endorsement for a book and sarcastic derision, I can't imagine what it is.- 7,481 replies

The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King by Howard Shore That fleeting statement of Gondor Reborn during the crossroads scene... that is perfection. -
Howard Shore's An Unexpected Journey (Hobbit Part 1)
Dixon Hill replied to Jay's topic in Tolkien Central
I don't care if it is Shore. Uninspired instrumentation, boring chords, and a sheer lack of invention in the melodic writing. This would never have made it into LOTR. Obviously standards have become abysmal.- 4,548 replies

Just saw it. Solid film, I think. Cloyingly generic theme. If nothing else, it's made me VERY excited for Guardians.

You're not drunk enough. But I actually think it's the light. It looks more like a Polaroid taken on set than a still.

Stranger - New Abrams / Giacchino collaboration
Dixon Hill replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
This caused quite a bit of buzz when it was first released, a lot of which had to do with Star Wars thanks to those very familiar fist few melodic intervals.... -
I loved her in West Side Story.

Nicholas Nickleby is charming, even though the young Charlie Hunnam looks positively slap-able in that picture. Damn it. I squealed like a wee lass. I'll have to find the rest of that score.

Sounds like classic Newman. It'll be nice to have more of him.

Fantastic third movement, starting at 23:10, but listen to the whole piece if you can. -
Emily Blunt as Diana or bust. I fear this movie will be a mess either way. DC just doesn't have their house in order.
