Production/library music - anyone else into this?
Dixon Hill replied to Richard Penna's topic in General Discussion
That's exactly why it rubs me the wrong way. It's the same for anything "stock". I know it's a practical/financial thing, but I just can't get into stuff that has no context, that's created just as generic material. I don't like the idea of farming out music when there are countless composers willing to write original music just for the credit. -

Ah, Helmut. The trio sonatas are devilishly difficult. -

I'm sure there's good stuff and genuinely talented people involved. But it rubs me the wrong way. -
No, hyperbowl. It's a device that allows one to travel through hyperspace whilst taking a shit.

What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)
Dixon Hill replied to Ollie's topic in General Discussion
Braveheart - James Horner I really like what the violins are doing from 6:36 - 6:50. I don't know why, but it just makes the whole cue for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQghiZCqM1Q -
Actually I think I had intentions of doing this last one, then I... didn't. You have me intrigued to see what the next will be.

Yep, didn't buy that it was an "amicable" spilt due to time pressures. Hopefully Abrams knows what he's doing and isn't getting blinded by being able to play around in the galactic sandbox.

Henry, based on your Debussy comment I was prepared for more of the unfortunately common problem of "young" composers (poorly) rewriting other composers' music rather than (skillfully) writing their own. I was delighted to hear that wasn't the case at all with your piece, which has the hallmarks of Debussyian sensuality and color but is decidedly sprung from your own mind. Well done.
