  1. Hey, I am not a violent person but if anybody called orchestral music 'fake' I would stuff a whole tuba up their anus, off course I am not suggesting you should do that. You can use a flute or bass drum if you wish to do so, depending on how much that statement upsets you. People used to react badly when I was listening to scores etc and their compelling argument was that I was never going to get laid listening to that music...
  2. Actually , I never heard a track thinking, "it's too fast", "too slow" or "too sloppy" from Williams, conducting his own music or otherwise. I think he has a unique way of bringing at least his own music to life and always seems to be getting the best out of the orchestra. To me these are attributes of a great conductor.
  3. 99% of conductors who conduct John's music they make his compositions sound boring, dull and sloppy, John is an exeptionally great conductor. He has a unic feel and phrasing which breaths life into his music. His recordings aren't sloppy, they are 'human'. In my eyes are perfect. And to get to the point of this thread, recording individually is a crap idea. The process sucks out the life of orchestral recordings. Here is an idea, producers should get their finger out and pay proper orchestras to record their scores instead of opting out for nightmare orchestras so they can save money.
  4. Warhorse, Warhorse + Yes. I know too optimistic but what the heck
  5. Don't know if anyone mentioned it but the whole Battle of Hoth 15 minute track is probably one if not the finest action cues ever written. Simply breathtaking!!
  6. Hey buddy, nice one, I really like the choice of scales and also you have a good ear, writing complex music but without messing it up. With a good production this can be a very enjoyable piece of music. Keep it up!
  7. All Alien films but the fourth one were a real nightmare
  8. Goldsmith for sure. I think his vision for electronics and orchestra would have blown all rookies out of the water...man, I miss hearing new scores from Jerry. What a brilliant avatar picture, may I ask , where is it from??
  9. Can’t explain why, it should be Tin Tin but War Horse is pulling me back to have another listen...
  10. Just got my disc yesterday. Initially I thought , ‘what a lovely score’. Light and brilliant at the first half for the obvious reasons, dark on the second half. I thought the battle music was handled fantastically and there is a bit on track 9 I think where it’s the heaviest I heard Williams write in years. And then track 19 kicked in. And something happened when the piano theme came on. It proceeded to the string part of the same theme, and then it came back in the end of ‘The Homecoming’. At that point my chest cracked open and my heart was ripped out. Bloody hell, what a wonderful, lovely theme!!! It was imbedded in my brain (and still is) for the rest of the day within seconds after hearing it. Absolutely stunning. It just felt like ‘it was meant to be’. This guy just never ceases to amaze me.
  11. This. John Williams stands above entertainment. Angry fanboy alert! Nope . just being realistic. It took you more than two months to come up with that response..?

  13. And what annoys me is that people such as yourself limit the definition of music to orchestral music. That's just insane in the literal sense of the word. I didn't mate, scoring refers to the craft of multiple instruments composed and orchestrated for various ensamples. Songs have a melody and a couple of chords and electronic music is put together with an electronic sequencer. Scoring refers to music composed specifically for a film or production, whether by a full blown orchestra, a pianoman or some guy on a kazoo. OK if you say so, can't wait for my next purchase of the great film scoring kazoo extravaganza

I mean hey, look at where guys like Danny Elfman and Michael Kamen came from! New artists should be welcomed. Its just, if new artists bring something interesting and effective to the table, great. But Reznor failed to do that with me. I mean I personally cannot find anything very dramatic about droning. Also, I feel their film scores don't reflect the films, so I don't really see any merit to their scores at all (either as a stand alone listen or a score in context with the film). But pop artists trying something new = overblown critical praise from film critics. Amen brother, Amen to that
  15. Yes I can, I am a musician my self and can tell crap music from good as actual music goes. Look, these bands and artists (please don't use the term composers) are good for what they do on their own. And I can see what's going on with Hollywood, they did the big orchestral thing, they did the Zimmer thing and are now desperate to find the next 'new thing'. But for the love of God I cannot place these bands and songwriters next to giants. Sorry, no way, nooooooo way. You must listen to what they bring to the film and not to how well they are trained. Cheesus Crust! Alex Nope sorry, that doesn't work for me buddy. You gotta know your shit to be up there with the best. Bands and 'composers' that don't know what's what never really impressed me. So I stand by my opinion.

  17. You know, it really start to annoy me calling any computerised music or some band stuff being called a 'score'. That's not a score. That's music done by a couple of blokes in their bedrooms. And no, I don't agree. Both Social Network and Dragon Tattoo are steaming pile of turds. Also let's see, Sabrina, Oh the bombast Always, Please Johnny Tooo LOUD Empire of the Sun, how HUGE Shindler's List, TURN IT DOWN!!! Stepmom, I object! Saving Private Ryan, the humanity!!! There is time and place for larger than life orchestrations that by the way not many people can do or if they can they are forced to emulate Symphobia strings. John writes the right music for the right moment. I am so pleased he is where he is so that he doesn't need to compromise or follow all the bollocks that goes on within this industry right now.
