I see fire! Oh wait... never mind...

Bilbo reacted to #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal in Poll: Will Bombur Speak?
I actually don't think they feel as different as some people here claim. A bit lighter yeah. But to be honest, LOTR was full of unlikely stunt and fight scenes. The action during the river scenes is no less over the top then Legolas killing an Oliphant and sliding to safety on his trunk, or ghost radiating a green glow sweeping across an entire army....

But you don't disagree with my points?
The orcs in LOTR weren't very threatening, overall. The Fellowship killed hundreds of them, with great ease.

Bilbo reacted to #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal in Are there now more LotR/Tolkien fans in residence at JWFan than there are John Williams fans?
This MB certainly has the most and the most in depth continuous conversations about the Tolkien scores, films etc etc. Completely unplanned (as far as I know Ricard doesnt care for any of it).
But it's become a great resource, and valid part of this forum and of Shore's Middle Earth music online. Doug would not contribute if this wasn't the case.

One gets the impression that scrolling past and simply not reading certain threads causes severe constipation or something.

Bilbo got a reaction from Dixon Hill in Howard Shore's An Unexpected Journey (Hobbit Part 1)
Finally got round to putting a bass reducer on this soundtrack. Much better experience. The bass parts actually sound good now.

Let's be honest. If there was something film music related people would like to discuss besides the horrible LotR and Hobbit threads, then they would bloody well discuss it and flood the General Discussion with lively threads of various subjects on films and film composers with topics that range between heaven and earth. Please find new threads and begin new discussions and I'll join them. But don't put the blame others for not doing anything if you can affect the outcome like in this case. Be the change Quint!

I didn't think it was possible for the words "Balfe" and "excellent" to appear together in the same sentence! Now that I've seen it I'm still not sure that they should. :/

Bilbo reacted to Roll the Bones in The Desolation of Smaug SPOILERS ALLOWED Discussion Thread
I liked the film, the Mirkwood scenes (when they left the path) was pretty sickening.
Oh and a few bits of unreleased music.
Also, I immensley disagree with Thor statement about there being travel shots that have low meandering strings, most of the "travel" shots were parts of chase scenes, there was not alot of time to stop and look at the scenery.

Seriously, who's this John Williams dude I keep hearing about? Is he any good? Doesn't he play guitar or something?

Bilbo reacted to Hlao-roo in The Book Thief nominated for Golden Globe
I don't like Gravity's score. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like The Book Thief. There everything is soft and smooth.

All right, but apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what has BloadBoal ever done for us?

Yeah, The Empire Strikes Back has tons of unused music (and great one at that) and yet no one is complaining about "butchering".

Enjoy, KK! I'm listening to AUJ now, and following it immediately with DOS. Then I'll sit in my coat for about 17 hours waiting to finally go to the theater with my father. He shared his love of Tolkien with me and gave me his books when I was very young, and then we sat in the theater an average of 15 times for each LOTR film. Only saw AUJ 3 or 4 times, but perhaps the next two will bring the average up.

Bilbo reacted to gkgyver in The Amazing Spider-man 2 (2014 Film)
Just listened to this for the first time. Holy crap, ring the bells, proclaim a holiday, Zimmer uses a trumpet for a superhero!
Too bad it sounds like the ensemble patch from a 10 year old mediocre sample library. Honestly, if this is a real human being playing the trumpet, how the hell did they manage to move it even beyond the aural atrocity level of Vangelis' synths?
Sounds like he's mimicking Horner's style from part one. I don't get it. If you do that, why didn't you keep the better Horner in the first place, meaning Horner?

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug! A better, darker and more serious film than the first! Smaug is simply stunning, 10/10 to Smaug's design and all the Smaug stuff. It is just amazing!

The revelation that Smaug is Bilbo's father will floor you though so it's best you know before you see it.
