Yeah, but only because there's only one such film, so the word "every" isn't signifying much.

Maybe - I'm happy enough to have my views called "extreme"! Moderation is overrated, and I wasn't criticising Alsop's comments for their extremeness...

All the same, I think the comparison is a poor one. There's nothing in Tár to suggest that the makers intend us to extrapolate Tár's negative traits (to women in general, or to lesbians, or to conductors), and I haven't seen Alsop argue otherwise; it's just an individual who happens to belong to those groups. As such, Alsop's castigation of the film for failing to use the opportunity to portray such a character in a positive light amounts to a prescriptive attitude to the purpose and function of films (or some of them), and that is what I find reprehensible.

Pity it’s been shelved rather than put on ice.

    Anatomy of a Fall

Wow!  I loved this movie, it's really good.  What I really grew to admire about it is how little it holds your hand; There are no exposition dumps whatsoever, you learn what you need to know through context organically, if you learn it at all!  I also appreciated how much is left ambiguous and up to the viewer to decide.  This is the kind of film that will be more rewarding than others on second watch due to all this.  But even on first watch there is so much to admire; While the screenplay is the star, I think, Sandra Hüller is so good as the main character, as are both lawyers and her son.  The husband is wisely barely shown to really help put you in the minds of both sides of the case as they are  presenting them.  Just a really good movie, I don't know what else to say

I've only seen it once, but that was just a few years ago. It does have some redeeming qualities (generally good performances, Olivia de Havilland, and of course the score), but overall I found it not very good even for what it is. And what it is is a film that seems like its depiction of race issues and its stance on the civil war must surely have been at least dubious even at the time it was released. From what I recall, even giving it the benefit of doubt, the protagonist's attitudes seemed "problematic" far beyond what was apparently intended to me a character fault.

The score is good, of course, but I've never actually had much use for the full thing. The standard concert suite is usually enough for me. (But that probably goes for a lot of Steiner scores)

I wanted to understand as much as I could about the procedure as possible...I think it's important for my job to understand the inner workings of the work that we do...well not that I do, but the work that is done by people...where I also work... The work of my colleagues.

    Bodies Bodies Bodies

Wow!  This movie took me by total surprise.  For a lot of the runtime, I wasn't really into it.  The setup is that a bunch of rich 20-something are having a weekend party in a mansion, when they start being killed one by one and the remaining people have to figure out who the killer is.  This is tied in in a fun way to a game they played earlier in the evening called "bodies bodies bodies", where one person was the "killer" and one a "victim", and they all crawled around in the dark until someone found the body and the remaining plays had to guess who it was.  There is also all kinds of various tensions between different guests for different romantic or personal reasons, and a guest mentioned who was there the night before but left after a fight....

I liked the actors and premise, but I guess my probably with a lot of the movie was that it wasn't funny enough.  Rachel Sennott and Pete Davidson seemed to be the only people having fun, with the rest caught up in their various dramas.  But as the movie went on and the bodies piled up, I was getting more into it, and then the final reveal at the end was so clever and hilarious, that the movie won me over as a whole.

This is one of the rare movies I think would actual take on a whole new fun level on second watch, now that you know everything going on.

ALL IS TRUE - A beautifully directed and acted film by Kenneth Branagh about the old Shakespeare. I loved it.

Very disappointed that Christopher Nolan’s Oscar night has been so temporally conventional. They could have mixed up the order, or had the winners return their awards rather than accept them or something.

It wouldn't have to be staged. Instead of everyone sitting formally in rows of seats, you'd just have all the film-makers playing with their toys on the floor.

Only if it wasn't staged  The Moonlight disaster was so funny precisely because it was unscripted and the situation escaped their control.

No "normal" Oscar ceremony can ever hope to be as fun, memorable and hilarious as the Will Smith Slap or the La La Land/Moonlight disaster, no matter how many nude John Cenas they put on screen.
