  1. To be fair, I've never heard Doyle's score outside of the film, so I couldn't really say. I mildly enjoyed Hooper's but I think it works better in the context of the film, as opposed to a stand-alone listen. Still, Hooper's is the one that grabbed me while I was watching the movie. Doyle's . . . not so much. That may have more to do with the fact I think Goblet is a very poor movie. Maybe I should seek out this score after all, give it a fair shake.
  2. I agree in that the Casino Royale trailer was terrible in that it seemed like just another Bond flick. That trailer turned me off from seeing the movie altogether. Fortunately, I happened to find a $20 on the ground one particular day and decided, "What the hell," the movie would be free. Ahh, thank God. The trailer looks pretty good. To be honest, my only concern is how well they bring the story together, and hopefully they don't fall back into the typical Bond mold. I think Clive Owen would've made a great Bond, had they continued making Bond stories of him in his prime. The super suave and nearly perfect spy that we're used to. I think it was important that they brought in a face you wouldn't normally associate with Bond, and he certainly brings a roughness to the role that Clive lacks (as much as I love the guy).
  3. I've had a lot of operations in my mouth. Not exactly something I'm proud of, but for whatever reason when I got my wisdom teeth removed about 3 months ago, it was easily the worst experience I've ever had. Aching pain for 2 weeks in which I couldn't concentrate on anything else, and another 2 weeks until I could eat normal food. Of course, I asked everyone else about their experience and all of them had an infinitely better time. It just happened to be my luck that I had the worst time. Ever. Ah well. So it goes.
  4. Well of course I can only comment on the worst movies I've seen and I'm sure none of them are deserving of the "Worst movie of all time" title, which would probably being some straight-to-TV or DVD flick that I'll never see. The Extreme Adventures of Super Dave. When you can't stand the leads voice, you know you have a problem. Not a single redeeming factor in that movie whatsoever. I find that most of the movies I watch tend to at least be a 5 and up (if we're rating 1-10). Queen of the Damned I remember as being really bad. Rest Stop was pretty terrible. I thought La Vie En Rose sucked, considering the praise it received. Otherwise, a lot of the movies listed so far I get some kind of enjoyment out of (except the latest craze of spoof flicks).
  5. I'm listening to the score for Terminator 2 for the first time in a long time . . . and it's quite good. I really dig all of Brad Fiedel's work for both Terminator flicks and True Lies although admittedly I haven't heard anything else by him. Along with Cameron, he was very noticeably absent from T3 and I wish he was scoring some movies these days.
  6. He was an excellent comedian and a solid actor. RIP
  7. I wish that were the case, but it opens one week before Dark Knight. For God's sake, that's a terrible slot. I love the Hellboy universe and I think the second movie will rank up there with one of the greater comic book flicks, paving a way for a third and final Hellboy (and from what Guillermo was hinting at, it would be pretty spectacular) but I don't see it making much beyond the second week. I hope I'm wrong though. Then again, Guillermo's next project is The Hobbit, and after that makes some huge bank, perhaps he'll be allowed to do whatever the hell he wants. And this time, it'll be better than a remake too long for its own good (yeah, I went there). My vote for top grossing movie will be Dark Knight. The buzz is huge and Ledger's death only increases that.
  8. Funny, I never really re-arranged an album until Crystal Skull. I'm not sure why. When I edited that (as suggested) in chronological order, I think it fared better . . . even with all the missing music. I think the album should be presented chronologically of course, but for the most part I usually just listen to the CD order.
  9. Yeah, Box Office Mojo has been a great tool for me in comparing box office numbers and whatnot. Looks like Iron Man and Indy are leading the year so far.
  10. He was a phenomenal artist and seemed like a genuinely good guy. I'll miss him. RIP
  11. Having read all the replies first, I went into this interview thinking Gene was a good-lookin' guy. You can imagine the laughs that followed afterwards.
  12. I rather loved the bit where Moore pushes the kid off the boat, after saying he'd pay him. Oh that Roger Moore! Let's see . . . Incredible Hulk was okay. I rather liked the humorous moments between Norton and Tyler. Although as the movie went on, I found myself liking it less and less. I didn't really feel the build-up to the final battle. There was some really cheesy stuff, but it was fun. Even though cinema seems like it's going downhill (I don't particularly think so) I've saved a lot of older highly-regarded flicks to watch. Ya know, one of those older films you just know you're gonna love. The Maltese Falcon is one. I actually picked it up for my step-father for father's day and I plan on watching it later tonight. I'm greatly looking forward to it.
  13. Can anyone point me in the direction of the hardcover edition? I figured they might do what they did with The Making of Star Wars but I've checked several online retailers with no luck. The closest I've gotten is a hardcover edition from Amazon UK but it says it has the same number of pages as the softcover.
  14. I really dig the score and I like the movie. I really can't wait for an extended release in 50 years or so. And I say, "Bring on Indy 5!"
  15. At the end of the day, it does feel like the story was rushed just so it could be made. I mentioned this before, but for those who read the making of book, everything seemed like it would work out well (while reading about preproduction) but sometimes movies just tend to fall apart. After all, no one sets out to make a bad film and who knows how much better this would've been with better CGI or a kick-ass action scene during the finale (for me, the flick just loses me when they reach Akator). Also, I can't speak for the rest of the book but during the Crystal Skull section, they just had a few Williams quotes about returning to the series. Steven and George spoke mostly on the topic, saying that it was the best and most exciting part, etc.
  16. I voted for Mutt's "theme". It's such a fun and frantic track. I love every second (although Irina's is a great theme as well). Crystal Skull is very appropriate but after listening to the album you kind of get your fill.
  17. I agree with ya there. David seems to know how a movie works and has some great ideas, but his end result seems to fall short of "greatness." His finales especially.
  18. but spielberg surely did. True. I suppose something like this could have happened: Steven: So I read an early draft of Future. It was nuts. There was actually this scene where the lead survives an atomic blast by hiding in a fridge! Crazy, huh? George: . . . yeah. TEN YEARS LATER George: Listen, I got an idea for a scene: Indy will hide from an atomic blast inside a fridge. Steven: **** off. . . . maybe not.
  19. I suppose they should've toned down the stunts in this flick (fridge, vine-swinging, the three waterfalls). I really don't mind them, but it does feel a bit much if compared to Raiders (or the other two even). I wonder if the fridge scene would have worked better, if after the explosion they just cut to the fridge opening and Indy getting out, to discover he'd been blown miles away and facing a giant mushroom cloud. That's an odd coincidence about the BTTF fridge though . . . although I doubt Lucas has even read that.
  20. I read that bit. Awful. Granted, it's only a small portion but it looks like a fan-fic. I was reading through the Making of Indiana Jones and was particularly fascinated with the Crystal Skull stuff. For some reason, the movie everyone thought they were making seemed a lot better than it turned out. Don't get me wrong, I liked Crystal Skull but the ideas and the pre-production material really got me excited. It "felt" like it belonged with the other three flicks. Anyway, back to screenwriters, the book only listed those mentioned above minus M. Night (and I think one more, but I can't remember). They didn't really dish out any details, except the aliens and the fridge were George's idea and bringing Marion back was Steven's. Some of the titles were Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men from Mars, Indiana Jones and the Atomic Ants and Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods (at one point it was Phantom City of the Gods).
  21. Thats harsh. There were a few Kaminski-esque shots, but to deem it complete failure? I don't mean to say that he was a complete failure for the movie. The only shots that bother me are when the bloom is in full effect. But in trying to copy Slocombe's style . . . I think he failed in that regard.
  22. Solid? Or loose with ants? Walked right into that one, huh? I forgot to mention that I love the use of the Crystal Skull theme here as well. It's a nice sense of wonder amidst the ants before the kick-ass fight music takes hold.
  23. I voted Janusz Kaminski as I usually think he does a terrific job. As far as Indy 4 goes, however, I think he failed completely at trying to capture the look of the previous three movies. I really can't stand the "glow" in any of the brighter scenes ( ).
  24. I might have thought something like this on my first listen, but the track grew on me with a vengeance. Talking about the music only, it's a fun track and I enjoy the "themes" within it. I really wish it was in the movie more and I relish it every time it's played. I really can't get enough of this track, as well as the other two new concert pieces on the album. It's a great way to kick off the CD. As far as how it ties into the character . . . Mutt is somewhat of an outlaw. He's not the big, bad greaser that he pretends to be and that's revealed on how he acts around Indy and his mother when the **** hits the fan. Mutt's fairly smart and is good with a sword. He's courageous (almost blindly so) and generally wants to do good. He looks out for those he cares about. Granted, not much is revealed about his character in Crystal Skull, but you get an idea (surely they'll expand on it if a 5 is ever made). Sure, he puts up a tough-guy front but in his heart, I think that's where you might find his theme fitting like a glove.
  25. Like everyone else has already stated, I love the use of the Russian theme. It makes the track for me (although everything else is solid too).
