  1. Stopped after 10 minutes 11 seconds. What an horror. #Wonka
  2. Is this an additional thread where I can bore you with the greatest tragedy of my recent life as a collector of film music CDs? Here's a clue... Mr. Chippy...
  3. Thanks @Jay, we all forgot about that reboot starring... what's his name... the guy from the Twilight movies!
  4. The comprehensive discography is on jwfan.com now, so you can update it yourself if you want! Or ask @Junion, thanks!
  5. Jerry Goldsmith's music entered my life gradually. The first score of his that I purchased was... (drum rolls) Honestly, Goldsmith wasn't a composer who had been a part of my life during my teenage and young adult years, unlike John Williams (from the first Star Wars) and Danny Elfman (from the first Batman). This was partly because I hadn't seen many of the movies he scored. It was an acquired taste, discovering Goldsmith. My initial exposure to his work came through recordings of the John Williams/Boston Pops (Out of this World), and those of Erich Kunzel (Star Tracks). First, it began with an expansion I think... Then, over the last four years, starting in 2020, my physical collection of Goldsmith's CDs grew to include 70 items. Not bad. Maybe it was the expanded edition of "Sleeping with the Enemy"... or was it the "used" OST of "Gremlins 2"? Those are very odd choices for the first two CDs of Jerry Goldsmith, but I believe it was these CDs. PS: I remember being impressed by some playlists of @Erik Woods dedicated to Goldsmith back in 2013, I think, on his CSR podcast website. So I'll say it's HIS fault!!!
  6. A well-deserved tribute to Nolan, who has been making his mark for quite some time now. He has finally made a "serious" film, worked with excellent actors and actresses, and it has been rewarded. Congratulations.
  7. I think Clooney removed that role from his CV!
  8. Are there any JWfan members on the red carpet tonight?
  9. There are many @Jay's Google Docs that could serve to create new breakdowns on this thread...
  10. Oh wow this thread! Somehow... you read my mind.
  11. Preparing some music for St. Patrick's day.
  12. As I began analyzing the percentage of edited tracks on John Williams's OSTs, I uncovered a list of three OSTs (not related to franchises) which have the highest rate of edited tracks... and thus, expansions could potentially offer a completely new perspective on these scores. Catch Me If You Can War Horse The Adventure of Tintin Please visit and comment this thread:
  13. Here's my analysis (not a scientific one) of John Williams's 42 soundtracks analyzed and published in this thread: Here's the evolution of the Edit % over the years: The decades with the most edits are the 70s and the 2010s (average of 69% and 65%, respectively). The decade with the fewest edits is the 80s (average of 34%). What I can say is that edits have always been a way of creating OSTs for John Williams. In the 80s, he attempted to reduce their usage, but they resurged in force in the 2000s, likely due to technological advancements. OSTs with the least edited tracks (less than 40 %): Saving Private Ryan (1998) E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982, due to its nature of containing primarily Concert Suites. Note: The results does not show albums that are 100% made of rerecordings like Jaws) Spacecamp (1986) The Accidental Tourist (1988) The Witches of Eastwick (1989) The Return of the Jedi (1983) JFK (1991) Born on the Fourth of July (1989) The Book Thief (2013) Sleepers (1996) OSTs with the most edited tracks (more than 70 %): Catch Me If You Can (2002) War of the Worlds (2005) The Last Jedi (2017) The Phantom Menace (1999) War Horse (2011) Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) The Force Awakens (2015) Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023) Star Wars (1977) P.S.: I know @Jay has Google Docs on many more scores, but if they're not posted on the Breakdown Thread, it's harder for me to analyze (subtle message). Add at least these ones first and I will recalculate my stats: A.I., The Cowboys, Harry Potter 1, Harry Potter 2, Harry Potter 3, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Superman, Rise of Skywalker.
  14. I'm just waiting for 'The Lost World' to make a comeback so I can click on another command. Yet, 'The Lost World' seems very lost for now.
  15. I'm snob. I'm even snobbier than I was earlier.
  16. Birthday setup. - Close Encounters of the Third Kind (40th) - E.T. (35th) - Amistad (25th) - Hook (2023)
  17. Hey, today Bespin is turning 50. Here's the playlist corresponding to my 'Top 10'.
  18. Having only seen the movies (as I can't read Tolkien), I had never really grasped this whole Rings thing... why the elves, dwarves, and men had them, and why Sauron's ring controlled them all. In short, this series helped me understand the deception Sauron created in wanting to conquer Middle-earth with the aid of the unseen, rather than the physical force of purely military forces.
  19. I've just finished the series. I loved it. And... and... and... I think I understood everything.
  20. It's not on the same level as 'Memoirs of a Geisha', 'War Horse', Azkaban, 'Indy 4', or some of the Star Wars composed in the 21st century, but it's definitely on par with 'The Book Thief', 'War of the Worlds' and 'Munich'.
  21. I just learned that in one of the original scripts of A New Hope, Obi-Wan was not supposed to die on the Death Star and was to guide Luke in his attack, from the command room alongside Leia. Lucas's wife, suggesting that Obi-Wan served no purpose after his intervention on the Death Star to rescue the princess, would have then suggested to Lucas to kill Obi-Wan. Lucas would have found it to be a good idea, and ultimately Obi-Wan gives exactly the same instructions to Luke during the Death Star Attack, but from beyond, rather than from the command room. Additionally, this reinforced the notion of the "Force" so dear to Lucas. If this is true, allow me to say that this is the kind of feedback that would have been useful to give to Lucas during the writing of the prequels. Many things that didn't work in this trilogy could have been improved this way. But as we know, no one, absolutely no one in Lucas's entourage during the making of the prequels dared to challenge him. With the result that we know. "Yes, George, we will do that. It will work perfectly!" - Rick "Yes man" McCallum
