  1. Sorry - am doing Gettysburg Main Title right now. This is such a good composing practice. Good to get away from all the samples.
  2. I heard he is working on a new film now AVATAR. 150 Million budget
  3. I think this should be legal but Marc is in charge. anyone interested in banning back home transcription?
  4. We could pull what the ticket scalpers do, "Anyone selling tickets??" When they are the actual ones selling. Nobody recorded this right? Anyway I went to one of the concerts, but still want to see it.
  5. Hey thanks for sharing that link. It's a shame that the tour is only European by venue. The series is very important internationally. I find some of the music in the show very generic, but some cues are simply outstanding.
  6. I always loved this prelude http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3J50GGK7 Tommy Newman's: Stoic Theme From Shawshank Redemption From a while ago http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5GGTB1SM
  7. I still don't think even JW has power over the studios. To a small degree, but they definately have their input - since they are paying for the whole thing, and JW is only getting a relatively small amount of points from the album. Its not even close to being a 50/50 split
  8. Remember that the studio OWNS the soundtrack, OWNS the CD, owns the PICTURE, OWNS the music, OWNS The sheet music score, OWNS everything, OWNS the movie name etc... There is a whole department at every studio which estimates sales based on many factors including - track length, track order, bonus, etc... I think John Williams is lower on the food chain at this point then most people here think.
  9. Uh, possibly, maybe do you think the label might have some say on what goes on the CD?? You wouldn't believe all the chatter, science and crap that goes in to releasing a major label CD. I think most of you (as I) would rather have 34 1.03 tracks then spliced montages, but that doesn't sell. Even among people who buy soundtracks, i Think the members of this board are even unique,
  10. Sorry, I just got this CD. Is the last track on the cd the same as the first? Is that some sort of mistake . I know it says (reprise).
  11. David Newman Elliot Goldenthal
  12. This score can also be used to refute an argument which claims John Williams is too flamboyant a film composer.
  13. I have been on this WWII researching kick after reading "The Longest Winter" about the Hitler's desperate offensive in Dec '44 and "Band Of Brothers" about the triumph of the legendary E (Easy) Company of the 101st airborne. Also a month back or so, while watching Ken Burn's World War II thing, my grandfather declared to me that he fought at Iwo Jima. He had never mentioned anything my whole life, I knew he was a pacific marine, but he had kept that secret, my mother didn't even know. It all lead me to watch Private Ryan again, which in actual history steals elements from the 101st story - and the battles in Holland and Belgium and France. This score is SO good. It is quiet and out of the way, but I think this might be JW's best story telling score. Listen to Omaha Beach - and then watch the scene preceding this cue. It is damn perfect, his chorale-like military writing. Pan diatonisism (Copland - Americana). The music has a sense of honor and sadness - and I find it to be both sad and happy at the same time. A strong sense of duality - representing how the soldiers must have felt, parts of the theme have 2 part writing. All hitting your sub conscience in a way that you never think of. Its just so good. Excellent film also of course. Go back and give it another chance if its not a favorite of yours. Rant ended.
  14. I just thought it was so obvious, however i am sure he didn't do it on purpose. There was 1-2 good cues on this score, but its said the silvestri has to resort to cloning zimmer when he is so much more capable of doing something more interesting.
  15. Where? -Erik- check the demo on itunes: Full of fine promises. - I remember during the film it happens more blatantly during a quiet part of the movie in the strings, but I am not downloading this whole album to find out
  16. did anyone else notice this, same exact notes - i think he adds a few on either end, different rhythm.
  17. I think out of all the major working film composers, John Ottmann is the absolute worse.
  18. Horner and Mozart, they do not belong int he same sentence.
  19. There was my "there is no piano in harry potter" thread. Hated the score. But that thread was locked forno reason
  20. YES! listen at 38 seconds. Conductor is rushing ny the way
