Hmmm... I think I know the one you're talking about. But I always thought it was Tchaikovsky's 4th? Regardless, there's a first movement out there that sounds deliciously Horner-ific. I was planning on getting it one of these days, but now I'm not so sure I know what I'm talking about. Can anyone who has listened to both symphonies confirm which one I'm probably referring to? Or did Horner rip them both off? Thanks guys. CYPHER

K.M. I don't know how much of these boards the poor guy could actually take. Here's a scary thought: what if he became addicted to posting here and it never left any spare time for him to write music? LOL I agree. He just seems so lovely and polite and gracious like that. CYPHER

World of John Williams Orchestral Concert ~ Sydney
CYPHER replied to bonta's topic in General Discussion
Hey Damo, I don't think we've "met" yet. I used to be the numero duo Aussie here (after Morn of course) before I slacked off and that Ballarat kid took my place (). I guess I'm still the number two Sydney guy though. Welcome in any case and share in the JW love. What's your story anyway (in 100 words or less? ). CYPHER -
At the movies definitely. Now if only I could figure out how to get rid of the other people... Or lower the costs of admission. Or remind the projectionist to stay awake and alert throughout every screening. CYPHER

I may have downloaded, like, about 5 audio tracks in my entire lifetime. I'm a pretty straight-and-narrow kinda guy, especially when it comes to the internet. Still, I will agree with richuk that many CDs are a bloody rip off. Then again, you just need to know where to look and a little hunting will throw up some great bargains. CYPHER PS - Drax, I love your Blues Bros. signature.

World of John Williams Orchestral Concert ~ Sydney

Glad to hear that those who went enjoyed themselves. Did it look like a packed out event? I hope they do it again real soon (even though I stand by my decision not to go this time). CYPHER -
LOL Good call. I just saw War of the Worlds last night and pretty much loved it. I found it surprisingly faithful to the book, whilst still being innovative and stimulating in its own right. The whole 'updating' of the story was very well handled I thought. The opening and closing narration that buttresses the film works very well (except for the fact that I wasn't entirely pleased with the way Morgan Freeman read it - perhaps a little bit too excited/comical at times?). The passages are likewise very similar to the original text, yet there's a lot missing as well. Well edited though. It's very robust, muscular prose. CYPHER

Yikes! And it's such a great score too! I'm surprised by these allegations of musical butchery. I thought Spielberg was usually very respectful of Williams' music? What's his excuse here do you think? CYPHER

Yeah Ren, come back! We miss ya! Good luck with your wedding! I hope everything goes slendidly. Make sure you post pics. CYPHER

Yes!!! That's what was missing. Nice memory dude (speaking of memory, mine's shot. It's Jeff right?). I pick Bespin too! Definitely the most gorgeous place to live. Cloud City here I come! CYPHER

Williams scoring Cameron's Battle Angel (2007)?
CYPHER replied to Pelzter's topic in General Discussion
Yeah Cameron's totally lost it. Such a disappointment. CYPHER -
Maybe JW referred back to this scene before composing ROTS and incorporated a little bit of it into BofH? Or maybe you guys are just listening too hard and smoking too much? CYPHER
-
Too right! LOL As much as I thing giving Artoo too much attitude and too many accessories in the prequels was a questionable idea, I did think he was the best thing about ROTS. He was an absolute scream, especially on Grievous' ship. Hmm... I listened to this track again tonight, and even though I didn't have a timer, I think I know the bit you're talking about. It's the Rite of Spring percussion pulse. Interesting... I've just finished re-listening to Attack of the Clones and now I'm going to dive back into Revenge of the Sith and hopefully reap the benefits of a little bit of thematic continuity. CYPHER

World of John Williams Orchestral Concert ~ Sydney

You don't say? Yay - Ricard added this to the front page! You rock mister. Thanks. CYPHER -
Hmm... interesting detective work guys. Oh well, it's about time Ben Burtt did something decent with the music! CYPHER

Okay, how come no one has complained about the intense similarities between sections of this piece of music and The Rite of Spring? Not that that's a bad thing necessarily, but the 'homage' does feel a bit blatant. My favourite part however would have to be those solo drum beats between the end of the Main Title and the start of the proceeding music. Such a spectacular and almost iconoclastic way to open the score and the film, these war drums serving as a perfect accompaniment to the ribald excalamation of "War!" that heralded the opening of the title scroll. Would it've been too much to put these ten seconds on the album? CYPHER

I voted for Batman, however neither of them especially float my boat. Don't get me wrong, they are both great creations, however I just prefer a lot of other comic book characters more. CYPHER

I cast my full vote behind Amistad - there's some amazing stuff there. CYPHER

World of John Williams Orchestral Concert ~ Sydney
CYPHER replied to bonta's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the heads up guys. Even though I have a proper, full-time job now I still can't bring myself to spend that much money for a 2.5 hour concert featuring an orchestra I don't really know performing music that is almost certainly played better on most of the CDs I own. However I have a friend who works in Ticketek - maybe she can score me a free tix? However if anyone does go, I expect a full and detailed report. Plus, in all fairness, this should feature on the news section of Ricard's main page as well. Why should North America get all the fun? CYPHER -
Lol , me too , except i was gonna put Jupiter - The Bringer of Jolity Ha ha - same here. Except I was going to add "Uranus" instead (though obviously "Mars" and "Jupiter" are equally splendid). As for my favourite Star Wars planet, I voted for Coruscant, though as some of you say, it might get a little bit too intense and urban for a permanent habitat. The fourth moon of Endor would be a nice contrast to get away from it all. CYPHER

Season 3? Here in Australia, we've only just seen Season 1! LOL CYPHER

Yeah Arrested Development is good stuff... (And that's all I have to say at the moment). CYPHER

Hey Mr Russell - I read your comic strip and I love it! 8O Thank you so much for sharing it with us - I can really feel the love that went into it and your visual style is great. Well done! Any chance of a sequel? CYPHER
