  1. But ALSO (lol), if you really like Horner try listening to Prokofiev's 4th symphony.  Just start it from the very beginning.  I can't say Horner rips off anything from it, but the opening melody sounds sooo Horner-like.  (rather, Horner sounds so Prokofiev-like).  In case you can't tell, I really enjoy finding connections with film music and concert/classical music.  :)

Hmmm... I think I know the one you're talking about. But I always thought it was Tchaikovsky's 4th? Regardless, there's a first movement out there that sounds deliciously Horner-ific. :) I was planning on getting it one of these days, but now I'm not so sure I know what I'm talking about. Can anyone who has listened to both symphonies confirm which one I'm probably referring to? Or did Horner rip them both off? :D Thanks guys.

  2. K.M. I don't know how much of these boards the poor guy could actually take. Here's a scary thought: what if he became addicted to posting here and it never left any spare time for him to write music? LOL

I agree one of his assistants has probably visited and alerted him to it. If he actually visited, I would have expected him to send Ricard or Neil a little note.

I agree. He just seems so lovely and polite and gracious like that. :D

  3. I may have downloaded, like, about 5 audio tracks in my entire lifetime. I'm a pretty straight-and-narrow kinda guy, especially when it comes to the internet. Still, I will agree with richuk that many CDs are a bloody rip off. Then again, you just need to know where to look and a little hunting will throw up some great bargains.

PS - Drax, I love your Blues Bros. signature. ;)

  4. It has been for a million geeks for a hundred years.

    LOL Good call.

I just saw War of the Worlds last night and pretty much loved it. I found it surprisingly faithful to the book, whilst still being innovative and stimulating in its own right. The whole 'updating' of the story was very well handled I thought. The opening and closing narration that buttresses the film works very well (except for the fact that I wasn't entirely pleased with the way Morgan Freeman read it - perhaps a little bit too excited/comical at times?). The passages are likewise very similar to the original text, yet there's a lot missing as well. Well edited though. It's very robust, muscular prose.

  5. I picked Bespin. I could live in the clouds. Plus, the greatest 25 minutes or so of the entire series happened there.

Yes!!! That's what was missing. Nice memory dude (speaking of memory, mine's shot. It's Jeff right?). I pick Bespin too! Definitely the most gorgeous place to live. Cloud City here I come! ;)

  6. Too right! LOL As much as I thing giving Artoo too much attitude and too many accessories in the prequels was a questionable idea, I did think he was the best thing about ROTS. He was an absolute scream, especially on Grievous' ship.

Skip to 3:13 of "Star Wars and The Revenge of the Sith." Sound familiar? That's right, it's a tracking job.

Hmm... I listened to this track again tonight, and even though I didn't have a timer, I think I know the bit you're talking about. It's the Rite of Spring percussion pulse. Interesting... I've just finished re-listening to Attack of the Clones and now I'm going to dive back into Revenge of the Sith and hopefully reap the benefits of a little bit of thematic continuity. ;)

  7. Okay, how come no one has complained about the intense similarities between sections of this piece of music and The Rite of Spring? Not that that's a bad thing necessarily, but the 'homage' does feel a bit blatant.

My favourite part however would have to be those solo drum beats between the end of the Main Title and the start of the proceeding music. Such a spectacular and almost iconoclastic way to open the score and the film, these war drums serving as a perfect accompaniment to the ribald excalamation of "War!" that heralded the opening of the title scroll. Would it've been too much to put these ten seconds on the album? :baaa:

  8. Thanks for the heads up guys. Even though I have a proper, full-time job now I still can't bring myself to spend that much money for a 2.5 hour concert featuring an orchestra I don't really know performing music that is almost certainly played better on most of the CDs I own. However I have a friend who works in Ticketek - maybe she can score me a free tix? However if anyone does go, I expect a full and detailed report. Plus, in all fairness, this should feature on the news section of Ricard's main page as well. Why should North America get all the fun?

  9. I was about to eagerly reply "Venus : The Bringer of Peace". Then i opened the thread to discover that it was yet another f*****g Star Wars thread.

Melange - Feels decieved, abused, and manipulated

Lol , me too , except i was gonna put Jupiter - The Bringer of Jolity

Ha ha - same here. Except I was going to add "Uranus" instead (though obviously "Mars" and "Jupiter" are equally splendid). As for my favourite Star Wars planet, I voted for Coruscant, though as some of you say, it might get a little bit too intense and urban for a permanent habitat. The fourth moon of Endor would be a nice contrast to get away from it all.
