According to spielbergfilms, Spielberg has gone with Color Purple composer Quicy Jones to score the 2008 olympics. So it looks like John William's 2008 schedule will be pretty empty right now, perhaps a sign that he's really slowing down.
I'm not too familiar with the works of Quincy Jones, but I'm sure that with whatever Spielberg has in mind for the project, Quincy Jones must be a good choice.

Uncool, my parents were barely born in the sixties, and right now, from what I've read, he's just a cranky old man.

Totally subzero dude.

Silvestri's Night at a museum is probably the most intriguing, even though I am curious as to how the Danger motif will sound on Mayan instruments.

I'm not exactly sure on how to do this. Do I just put my ipod shuffle and fill in the 17 songs that follow? What if I get Jim's New Life for my death...
-
So should this become the thread for discussing possibilities for new topics?

According to Ben/Henry, Lost might just be due for a christmas special next season.

Wood...stock??
K.M.
The little bird from Charlie Brown of course.
I'm sure most of us do the same way he does, most people listen to other music on the radio, and thus we don't have a choice. I tend to agree for the most part from where he's coming from, that music on Sirius channel 9 (90s music) is generally better then the Music on sirius channel 1 (generation now, aka 2000's), but that doesn't necessarily mean its more enjoyable. Since I don't particular have any interest in either, I can't say which one I'ld prefer for sure.

And then 16 or so straight episodes without repeats... and then nothing for months.

Well, Desmond seemed to have completely forgot about that seemingly traumatic part of his life even in the Season Finale, where he goes right along with Locke's expirement. Must be the alcohol.
-
Well, I found yesterdays episode an improvement over last weeks, but once again next week looks even better.

So with it being October and all, what is your perfect playlist to have playing during October 31st? What songs do you use to make sure you don't have to worry about having any kids knocking on your door?

1993, none of the others come close.

DMC, not quite as bad as CotBP.

And I wonder how many of their fans know it's Dvorak.
Frankly they probably don't even care.
Frankly JWFan concluded earlier that the reminiscence is closest to Prokofiev's Battle on the Ice.
Actually no. The snippet played by the Florida Gator marching band is closer to Dvorak's 9th.
Now thats true, it does sound very similar (except a marching band's playing it instead of the string section), but if the John Williams never associated the theme with lurking danger, it would never have been used.
-
At Florida they play the Jaws theme for the gators
I never understood why they play shark music when their mascot is an alligator and they do the "chomp". And I wonder how many of their fans know it's Dvorak.
As for Imperial March, I don't think there's a major Div.1 marching band that doesn't have that in their repertoire.
Well, I'm a fan who knows that its claimed to be Dvorak. And the Jaws theme is pretty much used for anything that involves approaching or lurking beneath the water. There's a little clip before the game that demonstrates its use.

I just got it, I haven't given it a thourough listening. It seems to focus alot more on the creepy hatch music, or at least thats what my ipod's shuffle's making it seem like.
-
At South Carolina the play 2001 before the team comes out.
You mean the opening of Also Sprach Zarathustra?
I'm pretty sure thats the one he meant. I really doubt they'd play the Blue Danube.
-
There better not be any Jaws remixes, and that Star Wars Party remix should be banned.

Man, the one game I've attended--Louisville vs. Miami--I didn't hear ANY film music played by the band. Of course, the crowd was pretty loud, but I think I may have been gipped.
Probably because Miami's defense was never good enough for the band to play the Imperial March.
John Williams is all over the SEC, and I love the fact that the Rebels play the Imperial March.
South Carolina also plays the Krypton theme, or at least they did during their win over Florida last year.
I'm pretty sure I also heard Texas playing the beginning to O Fortuna.
-
I haven't heard half the scores on this list, and I'm sure I would change my mind once I listen to Ben Hur. But for now, I'll vote the 13th Warrior.
-
I thought it was a great, fresh score, with the typical horner arrangements, yet good nevertheless, A.

you know, if it wasn't for the other John Williams that John Williams wouldn't be the most famous classical guitarist.

Exactly, he tends to be too politically correct, gives way too many compliements to others, and tells the same Schindler's List story EVERY INTERVIEW!
Goldsimth and Herman, on the other hand; now they were fun.
Subzero: Goldsmith, Herman, Elfman
Cool: Hans Zimmer, John Williams, David Arnold (for his fights agains illegal downloads)
Uncool: Alan Silvestri
Seriously Uncool: James Horner
