Tickets went on sale today for Hook at Wolf Trap. Got myself, the wife, and kid good seats. My son has never seen the movie (although he's heard me play the score in the car often enough.) This might be the earliest I've ever gotten tickets for something....it's not till Sep 5th!

I'm planning on going to this....it'll be the only time to see and hear Hook in my lifetime I'm sure! Wolf Trap is lovely....but sit under the canopy, not out on the hill.

Got the cd version of this for an early Christmas present. The sound is so much better! I would rank this as the best Star Wars tv show score, especially if you are after the "John Williams" sound, as apposed to stuff like the Mandalorian.

Definitive Listing of John Williams Compilations?
BobaMike replied to BobaMike's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I did...couldn't find anything from 1993-1997 that seemed to fit that release. It's pretty comprehensive, but seems to be missing some of the Silva/Edel stuff for example. -
Definitive Listing of John Williams Compilations?
BobaMike replied to BobaMike's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Thank you! Strange how some cds are never catalogued in discogs or anywhere else -
Is there a definative listing of John Williams rerecorded compilations anywhere online? Albums like the Silva Screen "Schindler's List: The Classic Film Scores of John Williams", from 1995. I'm asking because (as I organize 30 years worth of digital music), I have a cd/folder called "Legendary Composers: John Williams". It's a pretty poor cd of rerecordings, with the newest being from 1993 (Jurassic Park/Schindler's List). It has a very odd suite from Return of the Jedi, that combines stuff from Vader's arrival on the Death Star, Luke & Leia, and then an orchestral version of the Ewok Celebration and then the end titles. And also an unusual suite from Star Wars that is the main theme that goes into the force theme/binary sunset, then into the Throne Room/ End titles. My research shows that it is a Canadian cd. I think this is the record label and number:MADACY 7590X2814, but it isn't on discogs, soundtrack collector, even google, really. This is the track list: 1. Star Wars 2. ET 3. Jurassic Park 4. Olympic Fanfare 5. The Empire Strikes Back 6. Raiders of the lost Ark 7. Superman 8. Schindler's List 9. The Cowboys 10. Jaws 11. Return of the Jedi I'm curious who the conductor and orchestra are. It's a real orchestra, just odd arrangements and poor playing. I'm assuming it was licensened from another label? It shows up for purchase at only one place : https://www.horizonsmusic.com/index.php?route=product/product&language=en-gb&product_id=154646&path=60&sort=p.price&order=DESC&page=186&limit=100 but it also seems to be part of a 4 cd set listed on ebay here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/143770550989

Thank you! And curses to whoever tagged this MP3 20 years ago! -
Hello all, I am trying to organize my digital music, and I have a track listed on a John Williams bootleg cd that is called "The Fury: Preview". I don't think it is from the actual Williams score. I downloaded this back in early 2000's. Google thinks it might be Brahms, but gives me a different answer each time. Does this sound familar to anyone? 36-PREVIEW-_1978_-The-Fury.mp3

The composer said that they had not been able to use a live orchestra since Freemaker Adventures. The holiday specials are synths.

Well, I emailed him and just asked him a few questions: He said it was a 70 piece live orchestra! He adapted Williams' themes (they weren't just needle drops from the Williams OSTs) but he wasn't allowed to put them on the soundtrack.

The new Disney+ show Lego Star Wars:Pieces of the Past season 2 has some pretty good music. Lego Star Wars regular Michael Kramer (with Roberto Prado) returns (He did the excellent Freemaker Adventures). His theme for the bad guys, Solitus, is pretty good. Sadly all the great adaptions of Williams' Star Wars themes are left off the soundtrack, though. Can anyone tell if this was done with a real orchestra? I know the earlier stuff was.

Kennedy Center John Williams concert 9/11-13/25
BobaMike replied to BobaMike's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
This was a really fun concert. The NSO sounded great, and hearing Sugarland Express was a treat. It was the same version from the Spielberg-Williams Collaboration album. The conductor said he emailed John Williams (which I assume means his agent/manager) to ask permission to play it. A few random thoughts: I don't think I've ever heard 1941 live before, but it was really fun to watch them play as well as listen to. Jurassic Park was the suite with the wonderful T-Rex ending. Hook/Flight to Neverland was a great way to start the 2nd half. CE3K's ending still gives me goosebumps. The program notes were a bit out of date, as it referenced BFG as his most recent score....then the conductor, when talking about Tintin, said it was Williams' only animated score. My only other complaint was that the Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra is the new version, which is not a patch on the original, imho. The NSO does a really good job of programming film music, and even though it's a pain to drive into DC, I always try and attend as many as possible. -

It's only Spielberg films, so I doubt any Star Wars will be played. -
The Kennedy Center has a John Williams/ Steven Spielberg concert tonight thru Sat. I'm going Saturday. The NSO always does a great job with film music. Here is what will be played, according to the program. Jaws Theme Sugarland Express CE3K suite March from 1941 Hymn to the Fallen Schindler's List Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra Theme from Jurassic Park ---intermission Flight to Neverland from hook Victor's Tale from The Terminal The Duel from Tintin Dartmoor, 1913 from Warhorse With Malice Towards None from Lincoln Adventures on Earth from Et and I would bet the encore would be the Raiders March Not a bad playlist!

I took the family to see the North American premiere of the LTP concert of Wallace & Grommit: The Wrong Trousers. It was great fun, although due to it being performed by the Northern VA Brass Band, there were no strings. So the music was adapted a bit, but still sounded pretty close to the real thing. My son plays the baritone in his school band, so he was excited to see it used quite a bit. This was the first time I've been to the new Capitol One Hall, which is a very nice concert venue in Tysons Corner, VA. As nice as Kennedy Center! Julian Nott's score is fantastic (as are all of his W&G scores). Too bad the early and best ones are all unreleased (save for his promo cd (and a bootleg).
