  1. ...and it just doesn't get old. I still cannot believe I got to hear the film version live at the Symphony for a Saga. That is all.
  2. I just got back from the San Jose 7pm show. The sound was disappointing, especially the quieter passages (though the loud stuff sounded great, especially Blockade Runner). That was the only negative on an otherwise truly amazing evening. I cannot believe they played The Asteroid Field, FILM VERSION!!!!! OMG!!!! Wow!!! Check!!! Holy crap, I never thought I would get to hear that. Check. The Forest Battle!!!!!!! Check. Luke and Leia!!!!!! Check. I can't believe I got to finally hear these wonderful pieces live. I'm still blown away. I was really, really touched. I had hair standing on the back of my neck most of the show and was driven to tears several times (yeah, that's right). Anakin's Theme, Across the Stars, The Asteroid Field, and Luke and Leia were just incredible live, even with the bad sound. I completely broke down in tears during Funeral Pyre as you saw Vader get saved by his son. Just really incredible. And of course The Throne Room was EFFING AWESOME (sorry about breaking the no caps rule by the way, but I'm just really stoked right now), though I wish they had thrown in the ESB ending there somewhere. Goodness, I can't believe what I heard/saw tonight. I could go on but most of you don't like me and probably don't care. Everyone gets laid tonight!!!!
  3. Congrats to the Maestro! I just listened to this piece again and, you know, it is really a great one. It is amazing how talented JW is to be able to write great stuff like this on a consistent basis.
  4. This Symphony by Alan Hovhaness is really, really cool!!! What an unexpected pleasure!!! I encourage you to buy this CD if you have not done so!!
  5. This is funny but I would still have to disagree. Hollywood hardly needs to get laid. Hollywood has been effing us for a decade and a half now with these branded blockbusters.
  6. I'm praying Avatar kills off this absurd trend of sequels/remakes/prequels/comic book/TV show/Toy/Video Game branding movies. I just want something original.
  7. This thread has value. I am not missing another JW show in California, I've decided. ^ I guess you weren't around when Star Wars came out.
  8. I recently purchased the soundtrack to 7 Years in Tibet, which was written way before MR yet sounds like it could have been written recently. I think this so-called "shift in John Williams' writing" occurred prior to 2002, if at all. I am not sold.
  9. I just don't get it. Someone puts a legit post up about something important and historical, and then people come and sh*t all over it for no f*cking reason. I mean, honestly, if George Lucas were at your house, would you say that to his face? No, you wouldn't, because you're smarter than that. But here in the safe JW forum you can say whatever the heck you want. Well, so can I. Though if you were in my house, I would still say you need to get laid. I tell my SW hating friends that all the time. I don't like all this pointless Lucas bashing. I'm trying to do you all a favor and make this place just a little bit more legit. That way, 40 years from now, when some film music scholar is looking for historical information about the Maestro, he won't dismiss this site as a bunch of sexually repressed teenagers who go around flaming our era's most influential filmmakers. You can make this site whatever you want. I just think it's real f*cking lame that you cannot post anything about SW or IJ without some @$$hole talking about how f*cked up George Lucas is. It's all a bunch of horsesh*t. So forgive me for doing what I feel is right. PS USA is going to get destroyed by Brazil Sunday, unfortunately. Lucky bastards.
  10. I would say go procreate but I'm not sure the world needs more opinions like these.
  11. Since it was made, most of the blockbusters have been movies that were somehow prebranded. Damn near everything nowadays is prebranded (ie comics, sequels, toys, video games, etc). You could even say Apocalyptic movies (independence day, Armageddon) were even prebranded. Prior to Batman, this was not the case. Original movies could be blockbusters. Batman was so huge, and the branding so successful, it literally changed the movies we watched forever. Hopefully Avatar will buck this trend come December. PS this is probably the most useful text I've ever written.
  12. I was recreating Battle of the Heroes on my midi rig and I noticed 2 things about the main 8 notes/chords when the chorus first comes in toward the beginning of the piece: 1. Anakin's Betrayal around the 1:15 mark came straight from BOTH. 2. You can kind of, sort of squeeze Darth Vader's theme out of these chords. And then there's this shift a few notes up for the second part of the chorus, and it's very similar to the shift that happens on the 10th note of Darth Vader's theme. I was going to look into this further but I'm sure some of you must have written about this somewhere here. Anyone know where? Search function produced nothing useful.
  13. My opinion is that the world would be a much different place if Batman (1989) never came out. I have no doubt. Whether or not you liked the film, its impact on society was substantial.
  14. Oh come on I'm kidding, sort of. Seriously though you guys are way too negative about a good thing. In my humble opinion. BTW if I had called someone a jerkoff I would have gotten booted. Just saying.
  15. Hey guys this may answer some of your questions about why you hate George Lucas so much: http://www.getlaidguide.net/
  16. Most underappreciated Williams score. And the "Temple of Doom" is f{}cking awesome. Darkest piece of music I can think of.
  17. This score has an amazing, underappreciated main theme.
  18. Initially I did not like the score to TS but I must admit I quite like it after about 10 spins.
