  1. Hook Empire Strikes Back The whole things.
  2. This movie is looking surprisingly good. Almost beyond belief considering what it is.
  3. That scene is the best thing I've seen on TV since Breaking Bad ended. That show is something special; it just sinks its teeth into you.
  4. His performance in Punch Drunk Love has always been one of my favorites. Probably the best riff on the phrase "shut up" in film history.
  5. Man, that sucks. He was a great actor with an equally great body of work. Unexpected and sad.
  6. There's a subdued wistfulness that is unique to the early music. There's a healthy amount of foreshadowing, not least of which the moment you mentioned, but it also captures the gentle tone of the England scenes. Hook is in every way emblematic of childhood and that material invokes a kind of dreaminess that's a tad bittersweet.
  7. The choral passage from "Farewell Neverland".
  8. It's one of my most listened to scores in recent memory. I was floored that it was as good as it was when I first heard it. I had a cursory knowledge and appreciation of Daft Punk beforehand but they weren't really my thing. After hearing Legacy I have a completely new found admiration for them. I really hope they do another score soon.
  9. Jackson has always had that issue as a director, though. King Kong showed that by being three hours long. It worked with Lord of the Rings because the material he was working with was already incredibly long, to the point that they had to cut things out of the screenplay. Jackson definitely ought to learn the value of brevity in making movies.
  10. I sometimes think they would have turned out better had he made them. They would have at least felt more cohesive and he would not have stretched the material too thin over three long films.
  11. Season 5 is my favorite of the show. It was a hugely risky thing to do time travel and they pulled it off coherently (as much as is possible anyway) with a high level of resonance on a thematic and character level. Music wise the last season is probably the best.
  12. I cannot listen to the statements of Ben's theme in "Closure" from the final disc without getting welled up. Giacchino arguably did a better job with the final season than the writers of the show did.
  13. Good question. Both have different feels that have their own strengths. The children's chorus is more traditional and innocent but there is a, well, maturity to the adult chorus that captures another side of the Christmas season, more melancholic. I definitely prefer the adult chorus with "Star of Bethlehem", which is the piece I prefer honestly. I actually like "Christmas Star" more as well, also a more somber piece.
  14. Loved the film but laughable that the score is considered anything other than serviceable. I liked it. Haven't heard it on its own though.
  15. The latest episode was very good but it felt like it should have been the season three finale. Like the writers had this plot line that was left dangling and they got it out of the way to move on to other things.
  16. He took his "mystery box" philosophy too far. It's worked in other things but not here.
  17. I can attest to this. But this year I didn't get to have any.
  18. As soon as I read the thread title Skyrim was the first thing to pop into mind. A great, immersing score. You can see the tundras without ever having played the game.

Looks like a typical, Hollywood epic version of the story. That's not necessarily a bad thing but there were elements in the trailer that were obtrusively cliche. The cinematography was very impressive in the footage, though.
