  1. Any Tim and Eric fans around here? It's a very love it or hate it experience. I happen to fall into the first category.

I consider myself a pretty big fan of theirs, though not everything they do works for me. Most of it does and when it does its some of the funniest stuff in the world for me. This new series they've been doing is somewhat of a departure for them and I think has had varying degrees of success.

  2. I've always been intrigued by the Metal Gear Solid series. Which are considered to be the best entries, and the worst?

Metal Gear Solid 4 is my favorite, as sacrilegious as it might be. The PlayStation original would reign supreme if 4 didn't do such a brilliant job of revisiting old locations and tapping into that nostalgia factor.

It definitely plays the best and there are some nice moments (the Shadow Moses level being the best) but it's also total nonsense. Just awful writing, which is especially disappointing considering the previous game Snake Eater has easily the best narrative in the series.

  3. It was probably The Lord of the Rings, actually. I might have been into film scores before then but that's the first one I remember falling in love with that wasn't done by John Williams.

  4. Middle of season 5 here.

Same here. Fun stuff - although I'm struck by how the more character-based storytelling in S1 resonates more with me now than it used to, and by how the increasing focus on the Island's mysteries in the later seasons resonates less with me now than it used to.

Yeah, I noticed that on my recent rewatch. I honestly think part of that has to do with some of the reveals not ultimately living up to the mysteries that preceded them. But I still think the show was most often at its best when the two halves of the story, the characters and the mythology, were intertwined. One of the major reasons why S5 is my favorite is that it melded the two sides by having the characters actually experience the island's history in real time as opposed to having disconnected info dumps ala "Across the Sea".

  5. Superman: The Movie: A perfect score from beginning to end and clearly one of John Williams' greatest contributions to humanity. I realize everyone on this forum nowadays writes off Superman and considers Prisoner of Azkaban to be Williams' greatest score, but you're all full of shit.

Oh, I also listened to Schindler's List, Tintin, War Horse and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone.

Do you ever get tired of hating things?

  6. anyways if Uematsu is that great why isn't he scoring big movies or even Final Fantasy anymore. He's scoring Nintendo 3DS crap games now

The same reason Williams works almost exclusively with Spielberg now, because he's older and that's what he wants to do. It's not a matter of poor reputation or forgotten legacy; you might not be into him but Uematsu is still widely considered to be one of the best in game music, if not the best ever. Maybe he got burned out on the Final Fantasy series or the other big franchises he's done.
