  1. A lot of that is more or less just how Batman's story goes in most cases. By the time you get to the bat-signal and his partnership with Gordon, you have a guy who still has an air of mystery and controversy about him but it also more widely known to the public. Burton actually did the same thing with his film but more implicitly s; there's no discussion about whether Batman is real or some sort of creature in Returns, just the understanding of basically what he's about. Nolan seems to be running the gamut with the Batman persona, especially in his last one. I thought the ending to TDK was an opportunity for Batman to return to the shadows so-to-speak and I think that's where the character will be when we are reintroduced to him.
  2. Pleasantly surprised to hear an actual acoustic cello in "Mind If I Cut In?". I find it a bit absurd that the 30-second sample covers the entirety of "Death By Exile" with room to spare. Why have a track that's so short?
  3. That did get a bit ridiculous, yeah. Hopefully that doesn't happen with this marketing campaign.
  4. A wise pursuit, but I don't think I'll be doing the same. For me, anything officially released by WB is fair game. I will be avoiding spoilers as much as possible, though.

  6. His score Lord of the Flies is a favorite of mine, even though it copies pretty heavily from The Rite of Spring.
  7. Why not? It's certainly a better choice than the overused Lex Luthor.
  8. I don't know if it's my most listened to, but it's certainly on up there. It's an amazing score; completely blowing my mind that Daft Punk could do something like it.
  9. Zimmer is better than Tyler Bates, but he's still wrong for Superman. He's actually much better suited for Batman. At this point this movie has a lot riding against it, yet I'm still eager to see what comes of it. At least it still has Michael Shannon as Zod and Russell Crowe as Jor-El.
  10. I don't know why anyone would expect to hear anything radically different after two scores of relatively the same sound. A lot of what we're hearing is a combination of ideas from the scores, but I was fully prepared for it to be that. So I'm not disappointed, and I'm pleasantly surprised to detect uniqueness in some of the Bane material and especially the Catwoman track ("Mind If I Cut In?" is definitely the best track based on the samples).
  11. Doesn't look like the album will be in sequential order.
  12. That teaser is simply mesmerizing, reminiscent of There Will Be Blood. It says so much without saying much at all.
  13. Nolan's Batman movies aren't actually realistic. It's the illusion of realism.
  14. Yeah, it's been confirmed to be PG-13 which means they'll have to do some editing. You can push the rating pretty far (Nolan's own Dark Knight sure did), but as anyone who's read the comic knows, it gets pretty dark. I mean, at one point Joker kills an entire troop of boy scouts.
  15. That is unexpected. Makes sense in theory but I don't know if he would have been my first choice. I'm eager to hear what he comes up with.
  16. Shouldn't B:MOTP be over BB since it's #6 in your list? Is BB and The Incredibles tied at #7 since they're both at #7 in your list? It would certainly explain why you rank 11 movies instead of 10. Just sayin' Wow, I didn't notice any of that. Thanks for cluing me in. It has been fixed.
  17. 1) The Dark Knight 2) Unbreakable 3) Road to Perdition 4) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World 5) The Avengers 6) Batman Begins 7) Batman: Mask of the Phantasm 8) The Incredibles 9) Superman 10) X2 11) Spider-Man 2 Honorable mention goes to Batman Returns, which I think isn't a perfect movie but it dares to be so different, morose, artsy, and strange that it deserves mention. It also has a few of the best performances you'll see in a comic book/superhero film with Michelle Pfieffer and Danny DeVito.
  18. I've very happy that they're going in that direction with the story. I've long thought that the best way to do that comic was in an animated format and definitely not in the hands of Zach Snyder. I do hope it isn't edited for content though, because as it is it would be an R-film or close to it. And I agree that it's the greatest Batman story ever told. Strikes Again just isn't good. Frank Miller kind of lost his mind some time in the late 90's, not unlike George Lucas actually.
  19. TDKR comes out in two months. The marketing blitz will likely begin the first of June.
  20. Actually, they seem to be reenacting Batman Begins. Though both movies deal heavily with fatherhood themes.
  21. I greatly enjoyed the movie. The rather tame story was totally overshadowed by the well-drawn characters and action (of which there was not too much). It's very much a Whedon film and I think that's mainly why it succeeds.
  22. That's not exactly the case. The monorail actually is in TDK in a few wide shots of Gotham, but it's more of a cameo. The Narrows isn't there because it was all but destroyed in Begins. The mainland of Gotham, which in both films is essentially Chicago, is the same between the films, even though there are some stylistic differences with the cinematography and other things. I don't think it's accurate at all to say that there are no sci-fi or fantasy elements in TDK when we're talking about a film with a guy in a bat-suit, Two-Face, and a giant sonar machine.
  23. I was apprehensive about the 48fps when it was first announced and the negative reaction to the footage has only added to that. James Cameron was championed it by saying that it is closer to reality than 24fps, but I think there's a danger in trying to make cinema so close to real life that it actually seems fake. Instead of the sets, costumes, makeup, etc. feeling like they apart of a believable fictional world on screen, you have those things appear to be phony and out of place in various locations in New Zealand. But I haven't seen the footage so I can't really comment on it; I'm still definitely giving Jackson the benefit of the doubt.
