Indeed. It is named after Val Lewton, the director of the film.

Spent a summer week in Glasgow 5 years ago, and my abiding memory is of the crappy weather ... it makes a lot of sense to me that the track is the work of Glaswegians.

Good wee (as we say here in NI) Travis gig last night ... I stopped off for a pint in a pub on my way to the venue, pub is opposite the spot where Simple Minds played. Last night the 'gig' there was some sort of dance shite ... must say, it was a pleasure to leave it behind to go and watch actual proper musicians do their thing.

Here we are on our feet for the closing 'double whammy' of Turn and Why Does It Always Rain On Me -

    Hey, it's a living.

I watched Blue Steel via All 4, so you should still be able to catch it.

Enjoyed Noel Gallagher's Glastonbury set, pretty much the only one I'm interested in at this year's festival (am too old and grumpy for Billie Eilish, McCartney's live vocals are a bit of a lottery these days and I wouldn't know a Kendrick Lamar track if it bit me).

Blue Steel - nothing to do with Derek Zoolander, rather a Kathryn Bigelow cop thriller with Jamie Lee Curtis as a newly-graduated NYPD officer and Ron Silver as the psychotic Wall Street trader who dates and then stalks her, a-murdering as he goes. Low on plausibility but pretty high on everything else, and also starring Clancy Brown.

Yeah ... must admit when I saw their onstage time was 9:00 and the venue's curfew is 11:00 (there are apartments on one side of it), I knew a 2 hours plus gig wasn't gonna happen.

Well, we got these (including an chucklesome moment where we sang the 'la la la la' bit from Don't You Forget About Me for so long that Jim Kerr tapped his watch and said 'It's all right for you lot, I've got work in the morning!') plus Act Of Love, Glittering Prize, Someone Somewhere In Summertime, Love Song, Let There Be Love, Alive And Kicking, Book Of Brilliant Things, Theme For Great Cities, See The Lights, new song Vision Thing, Mandela Day, Promised You A Miracle ... I THINK that was everything.

I hope for a rousing 'Waterfront', a singalong 'Don't You Forget About Me' and a goosebumpy (for obvious reasons) 'Belfast Child'. Amongst others.

I've liked Simple Minds ever since I heard "Love Song". I hope they play a full-fat, balls-to-the-wall version of "Kick It In"?
Where I live is the answer to the question: "Why Does It Always Rain On Me"?

Star Trek IV : The Voyage Home - by way of a small tribute to Nichelle Nichols. A fun one, with much 'fish (and whales) out of water' humour as the Enterprise crew travel to 20th century Earth in order to save it in the 23rd.

    I saw The Batman today.

This movie has been made by a mentally ill person.

Ford v Ferrari - entertaining account of Ford's attempt to appeal more to the 'youth' end of the car-buying market by winning the '66 Le Mans 24-hour endurance race, enlisting ex-race driver Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and brilliant but hotheaded Brit driver and mechanic Ken Miles (Christian Bale) to develop and drive the car that will do just that.

If you surprised me while I was doing something else and said "END OF TIME 1 & 2! TELL ME ABOUT THEM! NOW!" I would have to think several minutes before I came up with something other than the cafe scene. After I got my bearings I'd probably get to "SHHHHHHHHIMMER!" and "Worst! Rescue! Ever!"

"You're not coming with me!" "You're not leaving me with her!" "Fair enough."

I like the two parts quite a lot. But the cafe is the high point by such a good margin.

2 tribute rewatches this week ... Cold War for David Warner and The End Of Time parts 1 and 2 for Bernard Cribbins.

The first is a fun Eleventh Doctor vs. a sole Ice Warrior 'nuclear fear' romp with a very strong supporting cast including Tobias Menzies, Liam Cunningham, the aforementioned Mr Warner and a young James Norton.

The second has sci-fi action and spectacle to spare for Ten's swansong, but it's in the quieter moments between him and Wilf where the heart of it lies ... I find Ten becoming upset during his chat with Wilf in the cafe very moving, and ditto later when he tells Wilf that he'd be proud if he was his Dad. Tennant's combination of rage and grief when it transpires that Wilf is the one who 'will knock four times' is terrific, too.

You should, Bruce; it's a good film, with a surprising, and unsentimental, ending.
