Drawgoon reacted to Bayesian in HOOK (1991) - NEW! 2023 3-CD Ultimate Edition Produced, Edited, and Mastered by Mike Matessino featuring all Williams/Bricusse songs
I’m in total disbelief right now. How long has our community obsessed over a new, better Hook? I joined in 2015 and it was already received wisdom that that score needed a new presentation. And so, year after year, we’d hype ourselves over the possibility of a Hook expansion, talking about anniversaries and studio intrigue and all the rest. And year after year, disappointment awaited us. Until today. Improbably, unbelievably, we no longer have to wait. No more pleading! No more teeth gnashing! No more disappointment! It’s finally, actual-factually coming!!
Thank you MM and everyone else involved in making this dream come true!! And @Jay, how long have you had to sit on this news?? Your restraint here — not a single hint from you that this was in the pipeline— was phenomenal. Kudos, sir.

A moment of silence for all of the "Hook will never get a proper release" jokes that we'll never be able to make again.

Drawgoon reacted to Mr. Who in James Newton Howard - THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES
Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion but man, if someone told me 5 years ago that people would complain that not enough of new scores are unreleased, I wouldn’t have believed it.
Longer albums is the best new trend in film music in my opinion and rather than think the new JNH ost is too long, I was disappointed that it wasn’t longer, given the number of tracks! 😄
Whenever I listen to a “curated” ost it always feels a bit inconsequential. When listening to scores I want to be engrossed in the musical journey of the full score and highlights style albums just don’t cut it. But of course, to each his own.
In a perfect world new scores would get a short album and a truly complete album (with alts suites etc).

Drawgoon reacted to Mr. Who in Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget (2023 Netflix movie, music by Harry Gregson-Williams)
I'm really exited for the score by HGW! It's a shame that he didn't do Equalizer 3 and Napoleon but at least we have this one to look forward to! If Zimmer doesn't do Gladiator 2 (fingers crossed), then I hope HGW gets the gig as his collaborations with Ridley are always interesting.

NEW SCORE AVAILABLE:
Netflix
Society of the Snow (Michael Giacchino) [34 cues & other selections (plus one missing link), 1:07:55]
So this is an interesting one!! The "Listen" area of the FYC site lists 19 selections, but with a little digging, I discovered that there are actually 34 MP3 files available!!! One cue/file is still missing ("05", "Barren", possibly "1m06"), which points to "Leaving Home" when it's played on the FYC site. The 34 MP3 files consist of the 19 selections featured on the "Listen" tracklisting, plus source cues AND additional score cues. For example, "The Second Expedition" (cue "08" on the "Listen" tracklisting) has three parts/MP3 files, despite there being only one entry on the "Listen" tracklisting (part 1).

Drawgoon reacted to Edmilson in Examples of movies saved by the score?
Interstellar is a nice choice for this thread. I don't think it's awful (the first two thirds are some of the best Nolan), but the score is really the best thing about it.
And yeah, the ending is awful. I never understood exactly what happened: so Matthew McCounaghey goes to the inside of a black hole, which somehow doesn't completely turn him into spaghetti but rather makes him go into a tesseract where he can interact with his daughter's bedroom 20 years ago. Using the robot, he transmits via Morse Code some mysterious data that makes his now adult daughter solve an equation that allows mankind to leave Earth.
After that, McCounaghey gets taken out of the time travel machine inside the black hole (!) about 70 years later, when mankind is living in a space station and his daughter is now old. He reunites with her then immediately departs in a space ship to find Anne Hathaway.
Is that it? Have I got it right? Because, if so, how could he go inside of a black hole who is coincidentally a tesseract so conveniently placed that allows him to solve all the problems of the movie? Who made that possible? Aliens? Did mankind became so advanced during his daughter's lifetime that they could send engineers inside that black hole to put there the thing that would help McCounaghey later - or earlier? I don't even know anymore...
Which is why I prefer a dark theory about the ending of Interstellar: none of this bullshit happened, it was just McCounaghey hallucinating while he was turned into spaghetti by the black hole as a means of his mind to cope with the failure of his mission.

Do what ever feels right for yourself, don't worry about what others think. Dubbing vs subbing is a personal preference.
For me personally, I've never heard the original Japanese language tracks and very much enjoyed the English tracks being my first and second experience watching each of these films. I'll probably check out the Japanese tracks when I watch through again for a third time.

Drawgoon reacted to Jay in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - Isolated Score Track
To be clear so nobody has any false expectations, this is not a release of the complete score, it's simply the final edited version of the score as heard in the final cut of the film.
There is already plenty of music on the OST album that isn't in the film, and there's clear evidence of lots of alternates existing that aren't available anywhere, plus there's no way to know how much the cues used in the film are shortened via editing as well

Drawgoon reacted to John F in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - Isolated Score Track
Can’t believe we are getting Williams last score and it being an Indians Jones one at that in complete form so quickly. So stoked to hear it. Love that it is also a kind of “greatest hits” score comprised of earlier Jones scores. Bring it on!

Drawgoon got a reaction from Davis in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - Isolated Score Track
If the studio cares so much about JW's work on this film that they're offering a score-only track on the bluray, I can only wonder why they didn't go big with the album program before.
Perhaps, by putting the full score on the bluray - as a bonus audio track - instead of soundtrack album, they no longer needed to ask for JW's approval on what should be put in there and what shouldn't?
-
Drawgoon got a reaction from Davis in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - Isolated Score Track
My point was the album program, i.e. the running time, selection of cues, etc, and why they didn't offer a longer album from the outset, even if it were to be limited to 1400 copies, or digital only.

Drawgoon reacted to Trope in The Official La-La Land Records Thread
A handful of friends and I had a group listening session together and we listened to the expanded Prisoner of Azkaban set (their first time). Being familiar with the OST, I think they really enjoyed hearing all the previously unreleased music and how it affected the shape of the musical narrative. I just kept thinking about what a great release the Potter boxset was (possibly my favourite expansion I own) and how lucky we are to be able to hear all of JW's intricate musical gems produced by people who really care.

It doesn't seem the case. Someone else found this Polish website.
It very clearly says "Original Motion Picture Score".
EDIT: Although, the main character of the show is a singer. So there might be some songs on there.

Drawgoon got a reaction from Davis in Gareth Edwards' THE CREATOR (Hans Zimmer, 2023)
The score does have some of Hans Zimmer's trademarks, particularly the early parts of "Missile Launch", but for the most part I never would have thought of him if I had listened to this without knowing who the composer was. Such a departure from his trademark of the past decade. Or perhaps this was largely a Steve Mazarro work?
Good listen nevertheless. Hopefully either composers get to score movies this way.

He should do a whole album with Hahn like Williams did with Mutter. They seem to agree with one another.
