My point, Chen, is that it was Lucas' initiative, his creative vision. No one told him to write a Star Wars film. Where these sequels and spin-offs fail is in how they have begun with someone else's work and a directive from above. If the heart isn't there, you're left with half-baked ideas and a studio who'll dictate the rest for you.

This is a bright spot of news in such dark times. Davies' era was my favourite, he always knew how to inject the show with the right amount of humour, warmth, darkness, campiness without ever going too far in one direction.

And in a phenomenally strange turn of events, Russell T Davies is returning as showrunner! I couldn't be more excited, especially if it means he brings Murray Gold back with him (and thus inspires Mr Gold to release the soundtrack to Series 10).

No idea, sadly. Can't find any info on Australia Post's website about it, and no explanation on the USPS website either.

I've had an order pending with Intrada for 4 weeks now, and I got an email asking if I wanted to cancel it (due to the USPS suspension) or continue waiting. I'm honestly not sure what to do.

It's such a frustrating situation for international buyers right now. We pay a fortune in international shipping rates then wait months for anything to happen, with no idea when the order will even arrive. Obviously I want to continue supporting the labels but, at a certain point, spending hundreds of dollars to order CDs from overseas (with no understanding of when it will even arrive) is going to become untenable.

Just listen to Game of Thrones - that's a good approximation of what Zimmer's music would sound like in the LOTR universe.

I bought the Phase 4 set too, and I echo your sentiments @Holko
I wish there were a few more pieces from North by Northwest - does anyone know if there was a remastered score for that film available anywhere?

I was pretty ignorant of Herrmann in general save for a few general pieces of pop culture absorption, and remedying that was in the back of my mind for a while. This Decca Phase 4 set came at a perfect time, and, though it's "just" a reissue of all 7 albums of his released under this label, it happens to be the perfect overview and thus entry point into his works. Represented here are rerecordings/rearrangements of pieces and suites from his Hitchcock and Harryhausen collaboration strings, genres ranging from thriller to fantasy, sci-fi, romantic or adventure, rerecordings of others' works, as well as a proper OST of one of his last scores.

The set is very well presented, a nice sturdy cardboard box housing a booklet with detailed album and track information and a small essay about the composer's career and more important works, and of course the discs themselves in cardboard sleeves that are CD-sized facsimiles of the original LP art, front and back - meaning original liner notes with context and track-by track descriptions are also included instead of being lost to time, forgotten or ignored, which I'm always very happy about. I enjoyed reading along, though the font obviously becomes very small and tough to read - bring a magnifier glass or take a photo and zoom in!

The sound is what it is, less busy sections mostly sound pretty good, but in grander parts the brass and percussion can suffer. The performances are all very good of course.

Overall the set paints the picture of an artist in his last decade not only caring about preserving and commercially presenting his own legacy (not unlike Williams revisiting his own works in concert, for new albums, and of course the remastered expanded reissues), but that of his other fellow film composers as well. I barely skimmed the tracklist and bought this set mostly blind, but I come away with a much more pleasant mental image of Herrmann than what I had before (based on throwaway remarks and anecdotes), and some killer albums to replay!

Crimes of Grindelwald confirmed to me that what Rowling likes to write most is the sinewy, amorphous intrigue of stories like Half-Blood Prince where there's several mysteries wrapped in one. The problem when you translate this to something like Fantastic Beasts is that you prematurely suck the magic out of the story. The political/mystery elements of Harry Potter were rightfully developed much later in the story, not in the first book like what Rowling has attempted with Beasts.
And just to add to that, Wizarding attire is incongruous to the same of what Muggles wear in any period.
