No, the filmmakers chose to spend the time they had on the wrong things.
And didn't take a page from LOTR's book and film more movie than you needed for a theatrical cut to make extended cuts available on home video, which is a shame.

Me too. And it slowly, but surely built a realistic relationship between Harry and Dumbledore. A relationship that actually meant something.

Can we talk about the missed opportunity to go into Voldy's backstory with more Pensieve travels as per the book in Half-Blood Prince? In those chapters in the book we learn of the Horcrux Ring and Voldy's heritage. Instead in the film so much time is devoted to fluff like the Burrow being set on fire and pointless chases.

The ending, in which Jimmy rejects the awesome Santa Fe opportunity, is a reminder that this show isn't about how he becomes the best he can be, but rather how he becomes Saul Goodman.

I hope this move will expose Williams for the hack he is. I've studied his sketches, and they're indecipherable, with staves going in all directions. It's like a cross between Jack Torrance's scrawling in THE SHINING and some far out graph notation from the 70s. George Crumb on 'ludes.
Without the talents of a small army of orchestrators, Johnnyboy here would be a laughing stock.
    A Williams sketch:

This score will suck. Mark my words.
PS. Conrad Pope is an Illuminati stooge bankrolled by the Rothchilds and with ties to the Freemasons--take his words with a grain of salt.

Remember 1999? The Phantom Menace. Even before I saaw the film months later I listened to the OST over and over again. You could sense that John Williams put a hell of a lot of effort into this score. He knew it wasnt just another project. It was a Star Wars score. It was a huge thing. Expectations were enormous and he needed to give his A game.
Sadly the movie was shot, and not only that. His music was really butchered beyond belief.
Natrurally he did the other two films, but it felt different, musically. More broad. More typically JW. I've always felt he wasnt giving quite as much as he did with TPM. He already knew that he didnt need to write anything for the climactic battle for the second film for instance. He didnt have to re-record the orchestra part of DOTF for the third film. And every one of the prequels has the exact same rendition of the main title.
John Williams still did amazing work for those two films, far above and beyond what one could expect from such appaling films. But it didnt matter as much.
For his seventh Star Wars films things seem different again. This isnt some score he's writing in between 3 other projects on teh quicxk, like AOTC. He's got loads of time, a director who, despite his faults does place a lot of importance on music in his films and hired John Williams rather then his regular composer for this.
Star Wars 7 matters something to John Williams, and he will once again give his A game!

OK got back home late last night. Now I can share some thoughts.
Performance itself started from some ambient sound designy stuff before the actual film commenced. Think those whooshy effects in Stay. That type of thing. It's just a brief thing, not an overture.
I couldn't really spot that many differences between film version and live version. Sure, some more details from the orchestra could be heard. But that might be just the fact it was performed live and film recording mixing buried those.
If anything, this concert/screening convinced me that the best way to listen to this score is neither album nor sessions... it's the film itself. Don't get me wrong, the albums are nice and they do mostly satisfy my needs. But they have nowhere as much impact as Hans' music married to picture. It's actually a rare thing from him. He really is the beating heart of this film and the images makes his music more powerful as well. So I guess this is the best way to watch this film. Now, if only they could do a 70 mm projection for this...
The pre-concert stuff was nice and all. But it's mostly nothing new. The whole thing was about 4 hours long.
What was the film like for the fifth time? Very good actually.
All in all, probably the best experience with live music so far. Not that the music is the best one I've heard. I'm talking about the entire experience and particularly how good it sounded. I've heard Hans perform his music twice now and he knows how to make a proper show out of it. Sound-wise, that is.
    There, that's it.

Arpy reacted to Gnome in Plaid in Did Williams intentionally quote the theme from Battlestar Galactica in his score for The Phantom Menace?
I don't think it was intentional.  I agree with the people saying it sounds like a variation on the "Main Title."  A better question: did Ramin Djawadi rip off Attack of the Clones for the Game of Thrones theme?

2011 would've been a good year for him to win. Both of his nominated scores were the best of the group. 2013 would've been good too. The Book Thief was the best or second best of the nominees (pretty weak selection that year to be honest).

Sounds more appropriate for Barney & Friends, or maybe the lightest moments in the SW OT. At no point does it sound anything like the Jurassic Park soundworld.
