Part of me wants desperately to try really hard to get an autograph when he comes to Chicago next year, but another part of me wants very deeply to avoid meeting JW unless I am in a position in which he can respect me as something other than a crazed fanboy (which is unlikely to ever happen, although not entirely impossible). I want him to have a good impression of me, or no impression at all.

As we all know, the 1997 Special Edition OST 2CD set presented us with the complete recording sessions of the iconic Main Title on the last track of CD1. As we all know also, the sound quality of these separate takes is better (MUCH better, I think) than the final version presented on track 2 of the same CD1. I believe that some of you have already toyed with the idea of creating a version using the selected takes (18, 19 & 20, which the 1997 OST booklet  dutifully informed us). So, to celebrate the 40th anniversary, here's my modest contribution (and the correspondent track from the 1997 OST for comparison). It was no easy task putting this together. In the end, it made me respect the work of music/sound editors, and EVEN MORE the work of music/sound editors of the analog era. Hope you like it!

Good call - I agree. It's strange, though, that he calls it Vader's theme when it doesn't occur with his big entrance and when it does occur with him onscreen, it's usually pretty subdued. 
 
Perhaps he thought the motif better suited to underscore than big presentations, especially since he seems to associate it with softer, muted sounds as he says in the notes. And that's probably why (in addition to Vader's larger role in the film, as he has said) he felt the need to write Vader a new theme for the sequel - thank goodness!

Obviously, a MM produced Hook would be a completely different experience than Didier's version.

Terrific. I remember not liking this much when I first heard it, but it's grown one me a ton. The ending is so Williams-y ... but that's not the only good part!
