Exactly, when was it that expanded version of close encounters came out? It was way overdue for something.

Holy crap, it was a 2017 licence expiry for Sony after all! What brilliant news!
As I predicted, the first thing Disney would do literally day one the rights revert to them is saturate digital markets with the scores under their own umbrella, to halt all revenue going to Sony. They've clearly been paying very close attention to the rights of these soundtracks.
Encouragingly, they've chosen to use the recently scanned OST masters for the OT rather than the ancient RCA releases. Surely a positive sign they aren't going to endlessly repackage those ancient masters like Sony did.
So it seems the Vinyl releases were the "last hurrah" for Sony and the 40th Anniversary for Star Wars will fall under Disney's label! C'mon Mickey, make it a special birthday for us!

It would be wise to do that then go back when you release complete and offer something new

Oh I thought it was one of the FFSHRINE rips. Sorry

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 got a reaction from Amer in New John Williams/Matessino 2017 Project Announcement!
WOULD BE GREAT! I could finally have proper recordings than the boots I have! Now I just need a complete PDF of Close Encounters to read while I listen to it complete like I have done in the past with ET!
What if we are all wrong and it is a surprise complete version of Dracula because poof the masters where in storage all along in an unmarked box!

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 reacted to Xander Harris in Why don't John Williams' orchestrators get credited in the soundtrack releases?
Dill weed. In the cabinet. Second shelf to the left. Behind the oregano.

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 got a reaction from Will in Why don't John Williams' orchestrators get credited in the soundtrack releases?
Well based on the JW Sketches I have seen and talking to an orchestrator that has worked with him that JW Practilly just has them copy over to the staff paper his sketches clearly show everything so they are just copyist and nothing more for him 90% of the time and the same goes for JG.

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 got a reaction from Josh500 in What Williams Score would you pick to be released complete as a sessions box set?
Man if I had those sessions to Azkaban I would listen to them all day

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 got a reaction from Naïve Old Fart in What Williams Score would you pick to be released complete as a sessions box set?
Samme here so many wonders with it I bet!

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 got a reaction from Ricard in What Williams Score would you pick to be released complete as a sessions box set?
If you could pick only one John Williams soundtrack and only one for the recording sessions to be sold complete commercially which would it be? The release would contain all takes with all the different alternates and orchestrations. I am curious to see which you guys would pick. Mine personally would have to be Close Encounters of the Third Kind because how much I love it.

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 reacted to Naïve Old Fart in .....
Of course, fucking of course! I'd pay for the effing thing, myself, if I could. I make just three demands:
1/ it's recorded at Abbey Road
2/ it's performed by the LSO
3/ I'm at the sessions (sorry, but it's my money)

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 reacted to crumbs in What would be a good method to try to get Williams' signature?
Turn up on his doorstep with a kidnapped child then force him to play the Star Wars theme on trumpet. That'll do it.

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 reacted to Will in The Daily Mirror John Williams article (aka the "John Williams has never seen Star Wars!" thread)
I saw a tabloid article called "John Williams Has Never Seen Star Wars" recommended on my phone (which actually linked to the "original" Mirror article) and I came over here to figure out what the hell happened. I figured there was no way JW would give an interview to a tabloid!
Anyway, I laughed out loud at almost every sentence in that article. Williams sounds like some of the kids at my high school during first period, who complain about how tired they are, complain about everything we do in class, etc. (Not that I have never done those things!)
And it's hilarious that it's apparently from the ultra positive Smiley interview. Bad sourcing by the Mirror to not even mention where they got the quotes, too.
This is just another example, I suppose, of what my dad always says, "Whenever I know anything about the topic, I can always tell they get it wrong." (Or something like that) (although this is a tabloid, not the New York Times, so you expect that sort of thing)

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 reacted to Bespin Copilot in John Williams begins recording Star Wars Episode VIII score today in Los Angeles
No need to talk about "life creation" and midichlorian in this new trilogy.
Just a little sentence will do for me: "Palpatine was my apprentice. Don't make the same error he did."

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 reacted to artguy360 in John Williams begins recording Star Wars Episode VIII score today in Los Angeles
This comment suddenly made me think of the score JW wrote for episode 1 and how amazing it is that he was able to return to the Star Wars galaxy and write a brand new score (with all its complexities) that expanded what Star Wars music could sound like without alienating old-school Star Wars fans. Far as I recall the score was an instant success with everyone loving Duel of the Fates and fans generally liking the score and remarking that it was the only part of the film that wasn't a let down. JW did what George Lucas couldn't and thinking about his score for TFA (which did have a more old school OT sound to it) and Gia's score for Rogue One makes me appreciate the score for episode 1 all the more.

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 reacted to King Mark in What Williams Score would you pick to be released complete as a sessions box set?
I dunno
I wan the sessions to the SW Prequels, Indiana Jones 2 and 3, and PoA...hard to pick one

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 reacted to Jay in Williams and other Star Wars Composers
I'm sure digital sales will outrank all sales of SOTE, but I think you understand how big Star Wars nostalgia was in the mid 90s! I think a lot of SOTE albums were sold!

RICHARDSTRAUSS68 reacted to Jay in Williams and other Star Wars Composers
I don't know about that, but we'll also never know because Varese will never reveal SOTE sales figures (neither will Disney reveal theirs for that matter)
