The first thing I did was go in and check for where I knew all the audio distortions were on the previous releases, and, well, there's none. One of my biggest pet-peeves was the opening for Throne Room, when the trumpet blares and causes crackling in the recording, this is no longer present. The audio doesn't duck in the left channel in The Last Battle anymore, everything is much more clear, considering it's a late 70's recording. Little things like that that made me really apprecicate this release.

Oh my god I just turned on ESB.........

My thoughts exactly on the throne room. Alhough I'm a trumpet player I always hated that distorted sound. Even with only one quick pass through New hope from my phone to my Bose system in my car I can easily say it's a really nice improvement from the previous release. And that's with the iTunes version. I can't wait to hear ESB.

  2. The Jedi steps and finale on the OST runs 8:51. The V mvt of the Hal Leonard suite seems to suggest a run time of about 9 mins. Should we be lucky enough to have this complete track as presented on the OST in full score? That would be great. Either way, if JW does Film night in Boston, he'll more than likely play some parts of this suite, if not the whole thing. Then we would have a decent recording, like the new arrangement of Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra that was premiered last May.

  3. I wonder how much of the score he genuinely conducted

To be honnest from the 60 minutes clip he doesn't really conducts a whole lot. The thing is most of the score is probably on click, so the conducting isn't really that important. I'm sure JW gives his instructions before they start recording, then the musicians have the click and play their parts. That's what professionals do.

His writing is way more important than the conducting. Some conductors are more in the way than anything else, and I've seen my share of them.

The fact that Dudamel conducts is awesome. He's a great conductor. I hope he gets credited.

  4. Temple of Doom, 1 GAZILLION percent!

While I'm a big fan of all Indy scores by Williams, Temple of Doom stands out to me as the most exciting, the most varied, the most fluid, and overall, the most fun. It's my favourite JW score actually. I always find myself returning to it.

If anybody ever were to ask me, "Show me the best action film music you've ever heard", I'd undoubtedly pull out this score.

It is a real shame, though, that the fairly-recent "expanded release" contains about 98% of all the music from the film, which means we will have to wait some 50 years to actually get all the material! The music that plays during Indy's possession, the percussion loop at the bridge, are all just as worthy of getting an official release!

Couldn't of said it better! Every single track sounds unique in its own way. I love it!

Totally agree with both statements. That being said, Raiders with the LSO performing is pretty amazing too.

  5. I don't want to be over optimistic, but could that mean he's going to be at Symphony Hall in May? One can only hope to hear the premiere of TFA concert arrangements live. After last year though if he's announced I'm driving. Not booking flights only to cancel them.

He is still confirmed for Philly in May. My guess is he will perform TFA music at that concert, though obviously scheduling order to determine the "premiere."

Tough call for him for sure. I think he may saved playing TFA stuff for Boston though. I guess we'll see. Philly will be a great concert for sure. Great orchestra.

  6. Sweet. I have not been able to get a reply after 2 emails, I'll try calling.

I'll definitely be happy with a gift card, cause they will certainly do shows in the future I would like to attend.

BTW, did all you guys who got tickets have digital ones or paper one? Because I have real, physical tickets, maybe thats making it harder for me to refund them.

I was to pick up the ticket at the box office. Maybe that made it easier to get a refund.

  7. What?? I emailed them but never got a response. Could you give me the address you contacted them at?

I actually just replied to the email I received regarding the change of conductor. A day later it was all settled. Still a bummer as I was really looking forward to see him conduct at symphony hall.

  8. I emailed the Boston Symphony about a refund, knowing full well the tickets are none refundable, but they replied with this:

    Thank you for your e-mail.

We are also disappointed that Maestro Williams will be unable to conduct these concerts.

We have processed a refund for the ticket price only. The handling fee cannot be refunded.

We hope you will join us next season!

Same reply I got. At least they were nice enough to tefund the tickets.

  9. Trying to guess the program.....Some SW since new movie is 7 months away. Maybe something from Jaws since it'll be the 40th anniversary on June 1. What about something from Hook as a tribute to Robin Williams? So much to choose from. Whatever he picks it'll be great.
