Thank you everyone for all of the comments. Lot of work went into this, including in getting it in the first place! It was actually a dream of mine a long time ago to acquire some version of this scene the way the filmmakers would have done it, and it did not disappoint. As a sequence I think it is great, but I can see how it would not fit well into the version of the film we ended up getting. Now as for earlier versions of the film... it was truly one of the highlights.

Also glad to hear people liking the music. Besides the obvious use of the "carnivore motif", which this track was essentially a love letter to; what other themes or alterations of themes from Jurassic Park and etc. did anyone spot?

Jurassic Park was a breathtaking film by Steven Spielberg; filled with spectacle, wonder, and imagination. Likewise, the novel and the adaptation process included many inventive ideas. This video presents one of the most famous ideas that didn't make it into the film: "Tyrannosaurus Rex At The Lagoon". Following closely to the tense sequence from the novel, the filmmakers also revised it with their own ideas, more than once. This version appears to be the last of the revisions, before it was scrapped entirely; along with the rest of the "river adventure" that was inspired and adapted into the classic Universal Studios attractions.

This video uses the official original storyboards that were contained in Phil Tippett's Early Sequence Storyboard Binder, from his own collection. They have never been publicly seen before. This video was made to dramatize the sequence with original music by Derrick Davis and Mikhail Cucuk, inspired by the John Williams Jurassic Park themes. It is made for entertainment and educational purposes only. Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures own any copyrights to the material. See video for full credits of this production.

Way to make me come out of hiding to see this video.

It's so elating to share a screen credit with John Williams. His themes instrumentation made my composition and orchestrations possible for this project.

Dang, I missed these forums. I need to get back in here more often. Scallenger has been my Spielberg these last two years.

It is one of those 'unnatural' Barry melodies that took me some time to appreciate (whereas the John Dunbar Theme is the kind of dim-witted Ten Tenors tunes that starts to sound embarrasing after a while). Still, the love theme that is a muted presence in the score is hands down one of the best Barry themes of its ilk and together with the Two Socks and the wide heroic indian theme the only really bearable stuff from this overrated simpleton of a score.

Yes and sometimes what sounds less inspired is the exact opposite of autopilot, maybe they had to strain twice as hard as normal because the inspiration wasn't there.  I just think it's a useless phrase.

Man, this thread makes me really nostalgic/sentimental somehow, because, frankly, it's something that's very tied into where my own life will go, whether I will be visiting JWFan for years to come or whether I will move on (although I'll never move on from listening to JW's music!)

I sometimes like to think that things will continue with the same vigor even once he has left this earth, or even just retired. But is that realistic? Is it even ultimately desirable?

I agree with @mrbellamy in that my main attraction to this place is based on anticipation, not reflection.

What do I, personally, like to anticipate? Primarily, John Williams scores, of course, and Star Wars films (particularly, then, Star Wars films with JW scores!)

So when JW is no longer producing new scores, the only major thing left to anticipate for me will be SW. And of course there are and surely will be tons of other forums to discuss SW. That said, this is the place where I've really come to know people, so it would still be really great if I was able to discuss the new SW films/scores here.

And there will be probably be other fun things to anticipate that we can't even predict at this time. For example, new scores by awesome new composers who haven't even entered the business yet.

But can we remain comrades simply based off of memories? Because that's really in many ways what it might be, methinks. Frequent nostalgic look-backs to making your prequel edits together, seeing and discussing the TFA score for the first time, etc. There would be few new "core memories" to make (to borrow a term from Inside Out ). Or maybe I am wrong on that. I don't know. I haven't been here as long as most of you. But it does seem like I'm not the only one who realizes that the only true "unifying events" these days seem to be new JW scores/projects (frankly, the weak reaction to the BFG does challenge that hypothesis, but, in any case, TFA certainly was quite an event here to say the least).

Maybe a little while after he passes, after waiting for the grief to settle down, after waiting a little longer for any major remaining unreleased music to be released, it might be time to close things down. I dunno. After all, members who want to stay in touch occasionally could still set up a Google Hangout or something. There may just not be a need to keep this place going. The biggest regret I would have would be if there wasn't a way to archive the threads for posterity. I wouldn't want us to lose everything.

Ultimately, I'm not sure if rabid JW fandom is something we should all be doing for large amounts of time for our entire lives. With the exception perhaps of those who enter the music field, JW's music isn't really an end unto itself, however often it may seem that way; it's something that inspires us in our lives. And if we spend so much time discussing JW music that we can rarely be inspired by it to actually do things, then what was the point?

I dunno, just my overly philosophical two cents.

We had a great time indeed! I was glad to meet again some of our beloved members I had first come across last year, and had the utter privilege to meet the famous Stefan Cosman this time. Concerts were delightful as expected.
Yesterday night was kind of an adventure, with all that rain pouring down by the end of the afternoon. We (that is rpvee and his mum, josefsuma and Régis, my French counterpart) were brave enough to wait under such rain and had got to the stage door very early... so that we were lucky to meet the Maestro (who presented himself at the door very early, at around 7!). That was truly a brief, intense encounter, during which we got our things signed! It was all worth the wait and the effort, as you can imagine.

The idea that Giacchino is the successor to Williams is an inane one that I wish would stop being entertained. That's not a jab at Giacchino, I like him. He certainly has his moments. But to whimsically treat Williams as an individual whose quantity and quality of work can be easily replaced by just about anybody not only diminishes his legacy but also is a blatant disregard for what makes Williams unique. Williams is Williams. There is no replacement, just as only Goldsmith could do Goldsmith, or only Horner could do Horner. That's why we love them, they truly stand on their own. To treat something as vastly intricate and complex as music composition as being nothing more than a matter of interchangeable parts is reductive at best and a disservice to somebody like Williams at worst.
