Not every composer is a conductor... this isn’t anything new. There are many composers who conduct who are crappy conductors so just because someone does it doesn’t mean they’re good. I think they just want to make cover with less text.
John Powell conducted Ferdinand but the ost says music by... same goes for Harry Gregson-Williams who usually conducts his scores.

He did such a great job using he bond theme in his own score! And as this will be a direct sequel to skyfall and spectre (and is Craig’s last bond movie), it would be nice to have musical continuity.
-
I thought Newman was doing this. I really want a third Newman bond score!

This is exactly why I refuse to buy my music digtally. I once considered doing it on amazon.co.uk. They immediately told me they would be keeping an eye on what I bought so that they could suggest 'songs' I might be interested in as well, and all this would be done by adding special data to the actual files I would buy. No, thank you. I want full control over my own files and if you can't live with that, I'm not feeling sorry about pirating anything.
Just buy digital music on iTunes. They won't go through your library.

Howard Shore should score this!

Maybe you're not into Desplat's magical mode.
Listen to Girl with a Pearl Earring, a much better score that I would call magical. Shape of water doesn't go anywhere IMO, musically, it just says something and then says the same thing a few more times in the same way.

Am I the only one who thinks the Shape of Water score is kind of dull and mediocre? I am a big Desplat fan and love many of his scores but I really don't think this deserved to win...

Balfe isn't scoring Fallout.
-
Am I the only one who gets annoyed by the fact that there is dialogue in some of the tracks? like prologue for example...?

I would prefer they do something else than Star Wars. Disney is showing Star Wars down people's throats and 2 new trilogies is just too much.

Of the points you mentioned - I’d say they’re all way past superficial. There’s an issue with humor throughout, the Canto Bight subplot didn’t work for so much as a single moment, and Rose was annoying.
Leia’s flying moment really is a small issue, but you have to admit it’s a wierd visual, and the handling of Luke’s character while at times bold and even a bit moving, wasn’t perfectly consistent.
I liked he film as a whole but I did think they gave Rose way too much screen time. I wanted to see more of Rey but undead I got the Rose character for a big part of the movie...

Film tracks is such a bad site. The reviewer clearly doesn't know anything about how a film and a film score is made.

In the Titanic commentary, Cameron says that he loved the piano cue Horner wrote but that the demo performance worked so well in the film that he didn't want to have a re-recorded version of it. For that particular scene, the demo performance works so well and I don't think a re-recording would have worked as well.
As for why LLL included all those OST versions on disc 1 and labeled film versions as "alternate", I get why they did it, but I would have preferred that they put the film version of southampton and the alt mix of Rose etc on disc 1 instead of the OST versions.

My CD still hasn't arrived actually... I ordered less than 2 hours after they went on sale:/

Oh I'm not disappointed that they didn't re-create film versions. That's totally understandable. What I don't get is why you would move things like the alternate Rose and Portrait cues to the main program. I know Horner intended it this way, but the portrait scene is so iconic that it just makes sense to me to have that piano demo (flawed as it might be) in the main program. Same goes for Southampton.
I agree with all of that. The Portrait cue that is on disc 1 is the worst track on the whole edition and it's a shame that it's on disc 1.

People in this thread are making a big to-do over nothing at all.
So Butterfly Comb appears before Rose instead of after Rose. Big deal!
And the main program contains the versions of cues Horner wanted to be heard. Cameron messed with all of his intentions in the final cut of the film. Recreating those edited hack jobs would make no sense.
There really isn't a wildly different way to release this score other than how they did it.
You've got a 2-disc main program of Horner's preferred version of every cue, then a third disc of every other version he recorded. How can you complain?
Well in Cameron's defence, apparently Horner scored a cut that wasn't the final cut of the film. I actually really like how the music was used in the film but I also like the LLL edition so one can like both!

I have 2 albums. The score as Horner intended which is almost like the LLL + alts and suites from Back to titanic etc and one album where the score is represented like it is in the film. To achieve that I did a lot of editing but extended many bits to make it a better enlisting experience.

Oh wait up now, you're talking about Cameron's film tracking and stuff, which is different than what we're trying to accomplish here, wich is the intended chronological order of Horner's intended full cues.
Ah yes I meant how it was in the film, when talking about lovemaking.
Just now, Stefancos said:So this new release is not even chronological?
It's almost chronological. LLL chose to combine a few cues.

So basically, other than the The Promenade, Rose and Butterfly Comb situation, it is pretty much chronological then.

Yes!

Wait, what? Can you explain that better?
The first cue in "Lovemaking" is in the film but the second part is replaced in the film with a bit from the track Rose. I'll try to find the exact time

I've actually done that:
This is the CHRONOLOGICAL order of the score, I've done for my iPod, where I've split the crossfaded cues:
I made similar edits, mixing clean openings with the cross faded LLL cues. Then I also made "film version" edits where I extended sections etc to make it musically a better and less choppy listening experience.
7 minutes ago, Jay said:Hmm, so are you saying this is the chronological order of the Main Program of the LLL set?
Yes, unless you want to started editing A building Panic and Trapped on D-Deck.
